21.01.2022 It is National Child Protection Week (6 12 September 2020). This year National Child Protection Week celebrates its 30th year with the theme 'Putting children first'. Putting children first was front of mind when the National Child Protection Week campaign was launched in 1990, with the aim of bringing abuse and neglect out of the shadows and putting child wellbeing on the national agenda.... 19.01.2022 This year Variety the children's charity are spreading festive joy a little differently with their first ever Variety Xmas Evening at the NEW Sydney Zoo for kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs. Sydney Zoo was designed to be inclusive for all guests. The zoo is accessible by wheelchair, mobility scooter and pram and is relatively flat with wide pathways, making their visit easy. In fact, there are no stairs in the entire Zoo! For children with sensory issue...s, they anticipate low noise levels on the evening as they are able to keep crowds limited. The zoo is also large enough to find a quiet spot to sit. 19.01.2022 The weather was beautiful last week so we had some lovely opportunities for indoor and outdoor play experiences. The children are becoming more familiar with each other and engaging in shared play experiences with a little adult encouragement which is wonderful! For Mystery Box we continued with: 1. Pasta threading 2. Sticker dots on the pig ... 3. Animal puzzles We finished the day with some duck painting and were very proud of our creations!

15.01.2022 In the Koala group last week we enjoyed two days of very settled and engaged group time - it was lovely to see so many Koala's singing along loudly to our days of the week song and greeting each of their peers during 'I wonder what your name is'. We are getting better and better at using our teachers and friends names in play as well!

14.01.2022 Last week in the Wallaby group we explored the 'Human Body'! We had a look at some x-rays and found it fascinating to look at different objects through the light. For mystery box we brushed some teeth and dressed our characters. We read 'The Lady Who Swallowed a Fly' and 'My Presents'. We had lots of fun feeding the lady some animals! This was a lovely opportunity to wait for our turn.... Another wonderful week!

13.01.2022 Last week in the Wallaby group we continued our theme of Transport. It was great to see that as the children became more familiar with the activities and songs, they were more comfortable to come and join in. During group time we had lots of fun imitating sounds and actions from our favourite songs and books. During our morning free play we read some books together and fed the animals. Another wonderful week!

09.01.2022 Last week in the Koala group during table top we completed various activities including 'alien play dough' to work on our fine motor skills. We were all motivated to have a play and loved adding lots of googly eyes to our aliens. We also cut out space pictures and glued them together to create a group craft piece - we were very proud of our creation!

The theme for Speech Pathology Week in 2020 is: Communicating with confidence!... We currently have 6 amazing Speech Pathologists working at the Fit Kidz Foundation. This week in celebration of Speech Pathology Week will be be shining the spotlight on our newest Speech Pathologist Anwyn, and learning how she encourages children to communicate with confidence!

05.01.2022 Oral motor input is a highly effective tool to support children's sensory regulation, attention and focus. For some children who seek extra input at their mouth (chewing on toys, clothing, grinding teeth etc.), a specialised chewy toy, chewy tube or vibration tool can provide a safe alternative to accessing tactile and proprioceptive input at the gums, cheeks and jaw. Additional input to our mouths through use of varied texture and temperature can also support sensory awaren...ess in the mouth. This may help us to slow down when over-stuffing at mealtimes or to bring greater awareness to dribbling and spillage. Some oral motor activities are great tools to facilitate deep breathing to help keep our bodies calm - a few OT favourites are blowing bubbles with a bubble wand and making "Bubble Monsters".
