12.01.2022 The health benifits of legume consumption have been widely documented in the scientific literature. Longitudinal studies of older people from Japan, sweden, Greece and Australia concluded that legume intake was the most protective dietary factor for longevity, with every additional 20g of legumes eaten daily reducing risk of death by 8%(thats big). Legumes included in feeding studies have been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol and lowers risk of coronary heart diseas...e. Daily intake of legumes(especially lentils) have been shown to reduce blood pressure, inflammatory markers and cutting the risk of diabetes by "MASSIVE 33 PERCENT". While health benefits are well documented, intake is well below recommendations in many Western cultures, and little is known regarding culinary use and consumer understanding of these foods, so we are going to ramp up legume recipes on our tasty tuesday segment.

01.01.2022 The researchers divided overweight subjects into two groups. First group was asked to eat one kilogram a week of lentils, chickpeas, split peas or haricot beans, but not to change their diets in any other way. The second group was asked to simply cut out 500 calories a day from their diet. Result: eating legumes without cutting calories was shown to be just as effective at slimming waistlines and improving blood sugar. The legume group also improved cholesterol an...d insulin regulation as an additional benefit. Moral: instead of just restricting quantity of the food we eat, we can also improve the quality of our food by eating legume-rich meals. See more
