24.01.2022 Time to use it, or lose it, with private health insurance Given that most private health insurance benefits tick over on January 1st, its a case of use it or lose it when it comes to extras cover. We know that most people cite extras are one of the main reasons they take out health insurance, so if you are paying for extras cover its essential you make the most of your money. Theres no tax incentive for taking out extras insurance so its best to think of the cover as a savings account with an expiry date.

15.01.2022 Urinary incontinence (UI) is the most prevalent pelvic floor dysfunction in women. UI affects individual women and their lifestyles, as well as having a wider economic and societal impact. In her Journal of Physiotherapy Invited Topical Review, Professor Kari Bø provides a clear path to understanding the causes and personal and healthcare implications of UI, treatment options, and the evidence-based confirmation that pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) should be used as the ...first-line treatment for UI in females. With a special focus on the effectiveness of group PFMT, this review provides a roadmap for the future direction for research and clinical practice. 10.01.2022 Changes to the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor are common after childbirth and can make some daily tasks a little bit more challenging. Luckily these can be managed through physiotherapy treatment and prescribed exercise activities. Call your local physio to chat about your options, whether that be a telehealth appointment or in-clinic consultation. Either way, you can be assured that your health is their top priority.

02.01.2022 Great article by APA and very relevant post ISO. Ready to get back to the gym post-iso? Be sure to follow these tips from physios around Australia to make your return without injury as smooth as possible. Warm-up and cool-down properly using stretching, foam-rolling and icing techniques to aid in your recovery.... Drop your pre-iso weight by 20-30% and gradually increase the weight over four-eight weeks depending on your age and fitness level. Get your form checked by a professional and ensure you are controlled and slow in your repetitions. Don't go too hard, too early! Build up to your pre-iso levels as your muscles and tendons will have likely shrunk, making you more susceptible to injury. Check in with your local physio to avoid injury and manage your return to full capacity. For more recommendations from APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist Julie Campbell, MACP, and Brooke Patterson, APAM, on returning to the gym, head to https://ab.co/2XPA3Z6
