Most people consume way too much.... Studies show that sugar (and high-fructose corn syrup) consumption is strongly associated with an increased risk of obesity, as well as conditions including type 2 diabetes and heart disease. If you want to lose weight, cut back on added sugar. Just make sure to read labels, because even so-called health foods can be loaded with sugar.

22.01.2022 [Blog Post] The Importance Of Goal Setting Each time we set a goal, whether its big or small, we ignite a fire that flows through our whole life in a positive and motivating way that drives us to succeed. We give ourselves something to strive for; it creates a sense of purpose. We give ourselves something to focus on with positive momentum. When setting goals its important to know our WHY. Why we set the goal in the first place. Often we hear that a person has set a goal ...to lose 15kg, my question is where does that number magically appear from? 15kg is just a number and we need to figure out why 15kg is your number. We need to ask ourselves some tough questions like: - What will I be able to do when Im 15kg lighter that I cant do now? - How will people look at me differently if I lose 15kg? - How will those looking at me make me feel? - When was the last time I was 15kgs lighter and how did I feel then? The questions go on and on but what we are trying to do is find our big WHY, attach some real emotion and feelings to our goal so that when the challenges along the way appear we will persist until we succeed. Emotions create momentum, so we need to harness that power. People often shy away from setting goals in fear of failure. Push past this and use it as fuel to your fire. We should not live in fear of failure; this is how we grow as people and learn from our mistakes. That way when we set our next goal we can ensure a successful journey. One principle that has helped me is the KISS (keep is simple stupid) principle; the simpler the better. When we dont have clarity on our goals we tend to procrastinate and over think. Keep it simple, DECIDE-COMMIT-SUCCEED

21.01.2022 [BLOG POST] These 5 low-effort tips can help you raise healthy children. Over 300 Australians aged 15-24 committed suicide in 2016. Suicide remains one of our leading killers of young Australians. Its tragic to see so many young people fall victim to the inability to overcome adversity in their environment.... Being a parent myself, and progressing through life, I have witnessed firsthand why many people deteriorate when adversity strikes. Through my own battles with adversity I can agree many things are out of our control. Im positive that with the right mindset and application, you can teach yourself and loved ones to overcome adversity in a progressive and healthy way, just as Ive been taught and continue to do. Through research and my own experiences, Ive put together 5 key points that you can use to teach yourself, family and those around you. 1. A strong sense of belonging and unconditional love, support and safety. 2. Morals and values 3. Parents help positively identify childrens individuality to allow them to create a high self worth. 4. Self regulation. 5. Their family place high value on movement, health and education. I cannot stress this point enough. Movement, health (both mental and physical) and education should be a staple in an individuals upbringing. In my own experience I found the vehicle you choose to seek these through is just as important. Children need to be stimulated through different avenues. When something is forced, it is no longer attractive, the investment dies out and the progress stops. Be flexible in how you implement and achieve these. Now you have read these 5 points, identify them in your upbringing to see the impact they have had in creating who you are today. The full version article will be uploaded to the BLOG section of our Brand New Fitness Advancement website before the end of March. #youcantalk

21.01.2022 It's never too late! Many people worry about starting exercise once they reach a certain point, because they think they are ‘too old’ to start. This is a myth! The reality is that it’s NEVER too late with a Fitness Advancement Personal Trainer. Every single time you exercise even if it’s just basic, low intensity exercise you are doing good for your mind and body. Regular exercise, particularly if it combines resistance training with cardiovascular conditioning can help with a wide array of age related issues. While we can’t STOP the process of aging, we can certainly slow down the decline! #olderadults #personaltraining #geelong #exercisescientists #fitnessadvancement

20.01.2022 There’s some really simple exercises that you can do to improve your wellbeing, health and happiness. Here’s 4 of the best: 1. Stretching - Stretching is de-stressing, it protects the body from injury and improves posture. A simple 5-10 minutes in the morning or evening will have a profound effect on both your sense of wellbeing and flexibility levels. It doesn’t need to be complicated, just stretch all the major muscle groups, while focusing on your breathing, and relaxing i...nto the stretch. 2. Deep breathing - Breathing is hugely overlooked. It is the most basic and necessary of human functions, but we never ask if we are doing it well. Could we breathe better, and what effect might that have on our health and wellbeing? Of course, breathing usually happens without you thinking about it, but you can breathe consciously - to improve your breathing - and with it lower stress, improve health and happiness. Simply lay flat on your back, place your hands over your stomach and take a deep breath in. You should feel your stomach expand against your hands. Hold for a second and then fully breathe out. Repeat for 10 rounds. 3. Steady Cardio - Cardio has many benefits. It’s probably not the best way to lose weight, but it is good for health and wellbeing. Especially if you enjoy it. Try getting out in nature for a hike in the mountains or walk on the beach. Swimming, cycling, playing sport; they’re all great forms of cardio. 4. Weight training - Weight training is an overlooked component of a healthy exercise regime. It balances hormones, builds bone density, increases metabolism, burns fat and increases strength. Sounds good right? Make sure you fit it into your routine! #exercise #your #way #to #wellbeing

18.01.2022 [BLOG POST] Training With An Injury Important Advice Here’s some important advice around training with an injury Being injured can be devastating to people who are set on a path to their fitness goals.... It is often a brick wall across the path to success that people find it hard to get around. But being injured doesn’t mean you can’t train, it just means that you have to train smarter. You probably can’t keep doing the exact same program as you have been doing but there are always alternatives. It could be a good opportunity to work more on some other parts of the body that may be underused. From experience I have found that many people who suffer injuries take time off training with the aim of missing a week or 2 or a month or 2 and then plan to come back to training. But in this time of total inactivity they put on weight, lose muscle strength and tone, lose fitness and many never return to training. A skilled personal trainer will be able to program and prescribe exercises to maintain strength and fitness through most common injuries. It is only when someone has multiple injuries in various locations on the body that it can become difficult. Remember that training will increase blood flow and assist in the healing process. Not to mention the help in maintaining mental wellbeing during an injury. Don’t use injury as your excuse to stop striving to your goals. Seek the appropriate help to create a safe exercise program to keep you moving! Phone 0448658960 Or email [email protected] for more information.

16.01.2022 5 Reasons why Proper Form is so Important To constantly work on and improve your technique and proper form is an essential part of exercising if you want to see results. Hiring a personal trainer with an Exercise and Sport Science Degree could be the best move you make in regards to your fitness journey. WHY PERFORMING EXERCISES WITH PROPER FORM IS SO IMPORTANT... 1. AVOID INJURIES You may have heard this so many times before but its 100 % true. In order to train in the most efficient way, you must pay attention to your form. Doing a specific exercise with improper form can, and often does, lead to injury, keeping you out of your training for longer periods of time, depending on the seriousness of your injury. 2. GET THE MOST OUT OF EVERY EXERCISE Doing each exercise with proper form makes sure that you make use of the full potential of your body. Proper form ensures that your body is stressed properly, and so it will respond and adapt in the best way possible. The result is that your strength, power and/or muscular endurance improves. 3. REACH YOUR GOALS FASTER If you learn to execute an exercise the incorrect way, you are increasing the time needed to achieve your goal. If your form is bad; you waste a lot more energy on stabilization because your body is trying to protect you from getting injured. 4. USE PROPER FORM AND STOP WASTING ENERGY Proper form places your body in its strongest position. Improper form causes your body to expend unnecessary energy to compensate for a weight moved through a less efficient range of motion. 5. BREATHE MORE EFFECTIVELY Proper form allows you to breathe more efficiently during each exercise. Improper form will place extra stress on the breathing organs, and youll struggle with your breath which will cause you to fatigue sooner. As you can see, proper form during exercise is very important. There are a lot of things that can go wrong if you ignore this issue. Having a Fitness Advancement Personal Trainer in your corner could be the best move you ever make in regards to achieving your fitness goals sooner. #getfitstayfit #fitnessresults #fitnessadvancement

11.01.2022 [BLOG POST] 3 Ways To Ensure Success With Your Personal Trainer Succeed with your personal trainer. By now most people have used or interacted with a personal trainer at some stage in their life. Unfortunately we still see a large percentage of people out of shape, unhappy with their bodies and un-healthy. Here are 3 ways to make sure that next time you have a personal trainer, you get some success.... 1) Be transparent with your personal trainer There is little point working with someone and just aiming at a particular number on the scales. Human beings are emotion driven. Talk to your trainer about WHY you want what you want and how youll FEEL when you get it. If they are good theyll be able to use this information to keep you motivated and on track, even when times are tough. 2) Multiple personal training sessions per week If you are only seeing your trainer once a week you are missing out on the power of structure and accountability that breeds sustained motivation and gets results. If youre doing one 60 minute session per week, split it in 2 and do your own warm-up. 3) Talk about your daily challenges with your personal trainer Your trainer isnt a mind reader, talk about why things are hard and may not be working for you, other than doing your weekly sessions and not getting the results you deserve. Guilt is a terrible motivator. Hope this helps

11.01.2022 2021 is now here and many of us start the year with a positive mindset after making our new years resolutions. However without an action plan it can become very difficult to maintain focus. What is your "WHY" behind your desired goals? If your goal is to lose weight or to get fitter spend a little time to write down all of your reasons "WHY" you want to lose weight or get fitter. Think Socially, Emotionally and Physically.

11.01.2022 Hiring a personal trainer can be a life changing experience - We have seen it first-hand in our clients. They feel healthier, have loads more energy, lose stubborn kilos and become seriously empowered. TO BOOK YOUR FREE CONSULTATION PH: 0448658960 / www.fitnessadvancement.com.au

10.01.2022 [Keeping You Informed] The Fitness industry is ready and committed to a strict reopening framework With COVID-19 restrictions set to be eased over coming weeks, the fitness industry is ready with a robust re-opening framework developed to ensure gyms and exercise facilities can be among the first to reopen while ensuring the health and safety of members and employees.... Since gyms closed a month ago, Fitness Australia, the industrys peak body, has been working with government authorities, industry stakeholders and international counterparts, including UK Active, IHRSA, Exercise NZ and the World Health Organisation, to develop a comprehensive framework for the safe reopening of gyms. Fitness Australia CEO Barrie Elvish said the industry is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of everyone so gyms can reopen sooner rather than later. The fitness industry, like all Australians, want to ensure there is no further spread of COVID-19 as restrictions are slowly eased back. However, theres no reason why gyms cant be one of the first sectors to reopen, Mr Elvish said. It is believed gyms can safely reopen with social distancing and hygiene requirements in place, which is why we have prepared a strict reopening framework for all fitness facilities and personal trainers. Hope to see everyone again soon! Cheers, Justin Cronin

03.01.2022 [Blog Post] The Benefits of Body Weight Workout Circuits What makes bodyweight circuits work so well? Every bodyweight exercise involved utilizes multiple muscle groups, gets your heart rate pumping, and burns tons of calories. ... Essentially, circuit weight training, or circuit bodyweight training, burns more calories than interval training, and that in turn burns WAY more calories than steady cardio. If youre trying to lose weight, spending hours doing cardio on a treadmill can be a really, boring and an inefficient use of your time. If youre a busy person (and I know you are), why spend hours doing something when you can be MORE efficient and build a better physique with less time. Im going to take you through a basic home work out today that can be completed anywhere in your house, apartment, out at a park, in your basement, on the moon, wherever. This is the Beginner Bodyweight Workout (3 Circuits): 20 Bodyweight squats. 10 Push-ups. 20 Lying hip raises 10 Walking lunges (each leg). 10 Dumbbell rows (use a milk jug or other weight). 15 Second Plank. 30 Jumping jacks. In a circuit routine, youll do each exercise in succession without a break in between (if youre able). Once youve finished all exercises in the circuit, do it again. If youre still able after the 2nd run through, go for a third. Because all of these exercises come one after another, youre bound to get tired and thats okay! Its better to stop and take a break than to do an exercise incorrectly. Before you start, dont forget to do a Dynamic Warm-Up Make sure to get your heart rate pumping and get your muscles warmed or youre just asking for injury. You can run in place, jump rope, do a few push-ups, pedal on a stationary bike, do some punches and kicks, jog up and down your stairs, and/or twist and swing your arms and legs to get them moving! After youve completed your workout at home, feel free to cool down and stretch after. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO THE BEGINNER BODYWEIGHT WORKOUT? Do this routine 2-3 times a week, but never on consecutive days.

02.01.2022 [BLOG POST] How many reps per set should you be doing? 10 seems to be the normal and common number of reps per set that people use during their gym based strength training. However, 10 is just another number, it isnt a magic number. When clients Ive trained have become accustomed to doing sets of 10 reps per exercise, they tend to get a little thrown when the reps are changed to a 15, 20 or perhaps dropped down to a 5 rep set. This article is designed to shed some light o...n why you could or should be using different repetitions during your training. Why should you change the reps per set for your training? Different rep ranges will allow for different loads to be lifted and therefore different training adaptations to be made. For example a weight that you can lift for 15 reps would be really easy if you stopped at 10. And a weight that you can only barely lift for 5 reps, wont allow you to reach the 10 reps you might be accustomed to. This is OK!! And generally it should be a planned occurrence. To keep your body making adaptations we need to be constantly changing the training stimulus, and an easy way to do this is to change the rep range you are working to. What are the common training goals and how many reps to maximize each of them? Absolute power 1-3 reps per set followed by 5-10 mins recovery between sets Absolute strength 1-3 reps 5-10mins recovery between sets Strength 2-5 reps 3-5 mins recovery Hypertrophy 8-12 reps 45-90 seconds rest Muscular endurance 15-30 reps per set minimal recovery The full version article will be uploaded to the BLOG section of our Brand New Fitness Advancement website before the end of March #fitnessmotivation #dreambig #furtherfasterforever

01.01.2022 Theres some really simple exercises that you can do to improve your wellbeing, health and happiness. Heres 4 of the best: 1. Stretching - Stretching is de-stressing, it protects the body from injury and improves posture. A simple 5-10 minutes in the morning or evening will have a profound effect on both your sense of wellbeing and flexibility levels. It doesnt need to be complicated, just stretch all the major muscle groups, while focusing on your breathing, and relaxing i...nto the stretch. Its probably not the best way to lose weight, but it is good for health and wellbeing. Especially if you enjoy it. Try getting out in nature for a hike in the mountains or walk on the beach. Swimming, cycling, playing sport; theyre all great forms of cardio. 4. Weight training - Weight training is an overlooked component of a healthy exercise regime. It balances hormones, builds bone density, increases metabolism, burns fat and increases strength. Sounds good right? Make sure you fit it into your routine! #exercise #your #way #to #wellbeing

01.01.2022 [BLOG POST] HOW TO BREATHE CORRECTLY DURING EXERCISE It seems like an odd thing to forget but when someone is concentrating on lots of different things, knowing how to breathe correctly is often the first element that is left out. This is especially prevalent in beginner exercisers, but is surprisingly still very common for experienced lifters as well. Some of the common mistakes made are holding your breath, breathing too deep or too shallow, too fast or too slow, and inhali...ng and exhaling at the wrong times. These may not make or break your workout, but they will definitely affect your performance. Breathing during Cardio training When breathing during cardio you want to maintain deep and controlled breaths. You should concentrate on not breathing with your chest, but breathing into your stomach. Breathing during weight training The most common thing people do during weight training is to hold their breath. This technique is called the Valsalva maneuver and it causes a very large spike in your internal pressure. This technique is used deliberately by powerlifters and weightlifters as it allows more stability through the trunk during maximal lifts. Generally though, holding your breath should be avoided as it causes a rapid increase in blood pressure and can also result in severe dizziness. This is important as most general gym goers are performing 8-15 reps per set and holding your breath for that long is a dangerous practice. It is especially important for anyone with hypertension!! While lifting weights you should exhale through the exertion part of the lift. For example, if were using the bench press, you lower the weight down to your chest, breathing in on the way down, and as you lift, perform a big forceful breath out. 01.01.2022 [BLOG POST] Training With An Injury Important Advice Heres some important advice around training with an injury Being injured can be devastating to people who are set on a path to their fitness goals.... It is often a brick wall across the path to success that people find it hard to get around. But being injured doesnt mean you cant train, it just means that you have to train smarter. You probably cant keep doing the exact same program as you have been doing but there are always alternatives. Dont use injury as your excuse to stop striving to your goals.
