09.01.2022 What's the worst number of members to have at your gym? Zero? No, because at zero you're almost guaranteed to grow this month The worst number is what I call your plateau number. Because it often proves you've hit the limitation of your current business growth strategy. ... How does this work? Well basically, the number of new members (allowing for seasonal variation) is fairly stable. So you might, on AVERAGE, attract 10 new members every month. BUT... even if you deliver great results, the number of people who LEAVE is always a PERCENTAGE. Often around 7% if you've been in business a while. So what this creates is a situation that you will grow until you hit a plateau of around 150. Because at 150 you gain 10 and lose 10 (7% of 150). And when you make it to 160 then you gain 10 and lose 12 and start sliding backwards. And if you own a gym, you might have experienced this. You basically float around the same numbers month after month. And the reality is there is no solution to this. It's maths. Doesn't matter how good you are, you will always lose at least 4 to 5% of your members every month. BUT... what you can do is upgrade to a new plateau. Because if you boost the sign up rate in a sustainable fashion (meaning memberships, not challenges), then you create a new plateau of 200 or 250 or even 300. How do you do that? Here's three things we've found that push this membership plateau figure higher (in some cases DOUBLE the previous limit) 1. Craft a new offer that both attracts your ideal client AND flows seamlessly to a membership. A "challenge" this is not. 2. Streamline your lead follow up with scheduled appointments and 2 way SMS and Messenger automations. This brings in more conversations which converts to more members. 3. Take the time you've saved by not playing phone tag and instead spend that time delivering what we call VISIBLE VALUE to the marketplace. Which is posting in a way that people will see you again.
