20.01.2022 Yes! Fitrah BIB 2017 was everything and more of what we hoped and prayed for; a gathering of great minds, fusion of beautiful energies, lots to eat, lots to lau...gh about and plenty to celebrate of culture, community and country. Many of our expected registered participants and some of our friends were no-shows. So, we are puzzled about that. We are also sorry they missed out because quantity was more than made up for in quality as we had an awesome time indeed! The panellists' sharing of personal stories and perspectives, soul-stirring and stimulating exchanges and facilitation by the brilliant, amazingly skilled Ms Zione Walker has left us buzzing long after the programme is over. Our guest speaker; Mr Charles Oguntade held us captive and energized our self-confidence and self-belief with his powerful presentation. Participants brought personal and interesting points of view. We got to learn Somali proverbs from Awale; one of our lovely participants; 'Don't hate me before you know me'. It was so much fun learning such wisdom in another tongue. Mr Ikenna Nwokolo had a good try at speaking Somali (with a lot of help of course!). There was an Elders Vs Youngsters Quiz Competition and the 'I Am One, I am Many' Art & Poetry Competition' for the young ones We went away with possibilities for the present and more purpose to live for in the future. We went away with some clarity on our identities and need for more clarity on our rights to belong in the way that's right and most authentic to each and every one of us. We are truly grateful to God for all He blessed us with. We thank our sponsors, donors, contributors in cash and kind and every one who supported with their person and their prayers. Special mention of the Victoria Multicultural Commission, Mr Bunmi Ajayi/CEO Megalines, Mr Charles Oguntade, Ms Zione Walker-Nthenda, Ms Dorcas Utkovic and Mrs Sarah Akamo who donated some of the prizes for the competitions. That's it folks! ...for now! The journey continues... Here are pieces of the day in photos.
