20.01.2022 AGE IS NOT A MILESTONE Today is my oldest daughters 7th birthday which means the 1st picture of her in the front seat with no restraint is 100% legal and 1000% terrifying!! She is the tallest girl in her class of 30 and there is NO way this is a safe option for many reasons. Luckily she is still fully harnessed in her Infasecure Grandeur and will be for awhile yet Just because your child has turned 7 this does NOT mean it is safe for them to sit without a lap/sash boos...ter or harnessed car seat. The advice from Pediatricians and safety experts is that they remain in a car seat or booster until they reach the height of 145cm, which is the height that car's seat belt's are designed for. You can see in the first image that even though she is very tall for her age, the seatbelt cuts across her neck (even adjusted to the lowest setting), and crosses her lower body across the soft abdomen and not the bony pelvis. Her knees also don't reach the edge of the seat meaning she is slouching and making the lap portion ride up even higher. This ill fitting seat belt can cause internal decapitation (where the spine is severed internally) and fatal internal injuries due to the lap belt passing over the soft tissue of the abdomen and not the pelvis like it would in an adult. Luckily we as adults have fully developed skeletal systems and much higher bone density meaning the risk of an ill fitting seat belt is no where near as high risk for us. But in a child it can easily be fatal. If you would like further reading on the subject here are a number of articles and videos from places such as the Royal Children's Hospital and the Car Seat Manufacturer's themselves. https://www.rch.org.au//fact_shee/Safety_Child_car_seats/ https://www.britax.com.au//does-your-child-pass-the-5-st/ https://www.kidspot.com.au//aeade18a23bccdaad72e91036e90c5 https://www.facebook.com/rchmelbourne/videos/2353635694870109/ https://www.facebook.com/rchmelbourne/videos/2687037481371750/

15.01.2022 NEW PRODUCT ALERT!!! Only $29.99ea Check out the ADORABLE car shades from Baby Got Shade. Designed so you can still put your window up and down! I will be doing an order for these shortly so let me know which ones you'd like and I'll make sure I add them *Plain Black also available Click here to pre-order: https://www.fitrightsw.com.au//baby-got-shade-car-window-/... Baby Got Shade car window shades are designed to reduce direct sun glare for babies and kids whilst ensuring complete safety for the driver. Many car shades on the market restrict the visibility of the driver when looking through the rear passenger windows, compromising you and your family’s safety. Baby Got Shade window shades are perforated to allow excellent visibility, along with ensuring children can watch the world go by. Whilst we love the gorgeous designs, because the film is placed on the inside of the window, they are not visible from the outside of the car. They also reduce visibility into the car so obscuring unwanted eyes from seeing those things of value to your family. Baby Got Shade perforated shades are suitable for all vehicles as they come in a sheet measuring 80cm by 60cm allowing you to trim the sheet to fit your car windows perfectly. So whether it be the daily drive or a special vehicle that the kids are only allowed in if they don’t eat or put their feet on the back of the seats, we’ve got you covered! Importantly, Baby Got Shade window shades do not leave any permanent residue on car windows. Simply spray with glass cleaning solution and wipe to remove any excess adhesive. Baby Got Shades are also super thin so you can still wind your window all the way down and back up again without issue.

13.01.2022 HIP DYSPLASIA || Prepping Posie Posie’s Mum & Gigi contacted me concerned with how she was sitting in her new Pavlik Brace. Unfortunately the OT who fitted her, neglected to fit out her car seat. This meant that Posie was sitting in a very unsafe manner, with her weight resting solely on her feet! With the help of an adjustable crotch buckle from Kidsafe WA we were able to get her seat correctly padded out and little Posie could ride safe and sound in her Britax B-First! ***On a side note, the B-First is the perfect seat for Hip Dysplasia bubs due to the internal width and angle of the sides, so it’s lucky little Posie’s guardians chose this seat for her at birth

02.01.2022 URGENT || Please Read "Did you know that if your child’s car seat was forward facing and you were to get in an accident their neck would get hit with the force of 180kg-220kg? Whereas if they were to be rearward facing that force would be 40kg-60kg? I’m so thankful to have known that information before the absolute worst happened to us. And I’m hoping that by sharing our story it may convince some people to rearward face for as long as possible.... A month ago I put Jax in his seat, did a pinch test on his straps, and then started to make my way to my parents' house just like I have done so many times in the past. Though this time we never made it there. Instead, the next thing I remember was men putting me in an ambulance and telling me that I had been in an accident. Jax was nowhere to be seen, and all they told me was that he was airlifted to the Royal children’s hospital in Melbourne. After having spent the night in the hospital myself, I finally got to go see him. Nothing could have prepared me for seeing my little man in that massive bed with so many tubes and wires everywhere. He had a fractured skull, a brain bleed, high pressures in the brain, and a torn ligament in his neck. It was an awful lot to process, I had no memory of what happened and suddenly I could lose my precious boy. It was touch and go for a while, but four surgeries, four weeks in hospital, and many tears later I was thankfully lucky enough to be able to take my boy home without any permanent issues. Not a day goes by where I don’t think about what life would be like if we weren’t so lucky. If I hadn’t known to keep him rearward facing, he definitely wouldn’t be here the doctors have told me. So if you have already started forward facing your young child please reconsider. It is safest to keep your child rearward facing until they reach the forward facing markers on your car seat (this could mean that you can keep your child rearward facing for up to 4 years in Victoria)." Zoe (@jax.and.i) FIT RIGHT SOUTH WEST || Rear Facing There is NO doubt that rear facing is the safest way for children under 4 to travel. It's fact. It's science. It's not even a question. I am so glad this amazing mum had the knowledge which undoubtedly saved her little boys life. Thank you Zoe for sharing your story and if it convinces just one extra family to keep their precious little ones rear facing you have done the most amazing thing
