15.01.2022 M O B I L I T Y M O N D A Y Following on from last week’s T-Spine twist, to help with spinal flexion which helps with your back squat, deadlift and rows, try this mobility movement. You will need: ... 1 x Bench 1 x Broom stick/ mobility pole 1 x Towel/ May (for knees) 1. Set your towel down and have both knees facing the bench (can also use a couch) an arm lengths away to begin with. 2. Grab the broom stick or mobility holding it palms facing up, and your forearms are rested on the bench top. 3. Set your elbows so they slightly hang off the bench. 4. Breath in and on the exhale begin to move your head between your body and the bench as your elbows bend and hands move toward your back. 5. Depending on your range of motion and how tight your body is, you may feel the stretch in your upper back (thoracic spine), latissimus dorsi, Teres Major, deltoids and triceps. 6. Keep inhaling and exhaling as you increase the range of motion holding for two minutes. @ Fitstop

An important note from your trainers; take the time to slow down, recharge and enjoy the festive season. 04.01.2022 It’s that time of week again, where we show you how to, or in this case what not to do! Setting up for a Bentover row is super important, as is any lift. And so is your form as we look at the common mistakes most humans make when they begin to apply progress overload. When setting up make sure you hinge from the hip (bow to the Queen). Ensure that your belly button is sucked toward your spine to ensure your core is engaged and no pain takes over in the lower back.... You also want a soft bend in the knees to keep the joints safe and that you feel a stretch in the back of the legs. From here retract your shoulders back to maintain a straight line through your back. Once here, pull from the elbows as that bar meets your belly button. Be sure to look for momentum jerks, having to drive the bar with excessive force, the weight should be comfortable yet challenging enough that you can still bring it up without sacrificing the initial range or tempo.
