24.01.2022 This is a common question we are asked in clinic and the answer is yes! Modern technology is continuously advancing and what we can achieve with our smartphones is pretty amazing. There is an app for pretty much everything these days, including pelvic floor health. Here are some of our favourites!... Disclaimer: we have no affiliation with the apps listed below. This is what we commonly recommend or use with clients, helping them to achieve their goals Pelvic Floor: - Squeezy: Created by a UK Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist and has a professional mode that can be individualised to your needs with your physio - Kegel Trainer: Offers various levels of pelvic floor muscle training, with an option for customised programs through an upgrade - Flush Toilet Finder: Helpful for those with urinary and faecal urgency and incontinence. It uses your location to map out the nearest public toilets. Relaxation: Meditation and mindfulness apps may help with pelvic pain, anxiety, stress and chronic pain - Calm - Smiling Mind - Headspace - MyLife Meditation - Mind Detox. Exercise: - C25K: A fantastic guide to gradually returning to running. To be used in conjunction with your physio’s recommendations - Interval trainer: For setting up your HIIT workouts, again, with guidance from your physio - Physiapp: To access your individualised exercise plan created by your physio. Pregnancy/postnatal: - Pregnancy pelvic floor plan: CFA app with education on pregnancy milestones and pelvic floor health - Mind the bump: Meditation app targeted towards pregnant and postnatal women. Which are your go to apps? @thephysiodownunder #pelvicfloor #pelvicfloorhealth #apps #physiotherapy

22.01.2022 Last week, we hit a milestone with 200 class attendees for our live stream sessions! While we certainly miss running our exercise classes in-practice, it's been a pleasure bringing you our sessions online. The world of live stream was very new territory for us when we started back in March - we are so proud of our team and the way they adapted to quick change and pulled together to deliver quality content. We are also so grateful for our wonderful clients, who stepped out o...f their comfort zone and embraced the shift to online classes. We look forward to continuing our live stream sessions - we've got some very exciting plans up our sleeve for online content, stay tuned and if you are looking for a way to exercise from home, send us a message to find out more! #livestream #milestone #wofh #online #pilates #fitwise #physiotherapy #eastmelbourne #armadale

14.01.2022 6 BRAIN BOOSTING BITES // We know how important eating well is for our physical health, but how about our mental health? Today is Day 4 of Women's Health Week... (and also R U OK? day) and our focus is brain health nutrition. Turns out there is a few key nutrients that help our brain function best. Check out my brain boosting bites below so you can start including them in your day! SALMON Oily fish (salmon, herring, sardines, trout, mackerel) contain essential fatty acids (EFAs) EFAs cannot be made by the body which means they just be obtained through food. The most effective omega 3 which occurs naturally in fish is in the form of EPA and DHA Low DHA levels have been linked to an increased risk of dementia, Alzheimer's diseases and memory loss. TOMATOES Strong evidence suggests that lycopene - an antioxidant found in can assist with reducing free radical damage which occurs in health conditions such as dementia & Alzheimer's disease. Other foods with these protective nutrients include watermelon, papaya & pink grapefruit EGGS Certain B vitamins (B12, B6, folic acid) are known to reduce levels of a compound called homocysteine. Elevated levels of homocysteine are been associated with increased risk of stroke, cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease. B Vitamin rich foods include chicken, eggs, fish, leafy greens and dairy. Vegan sources of B vitamins include avocado, soya, nuts and seeds. BROCCOLI A great source of Vitamin K - known to enhance cognitive function. High in a compound called glucosinolates - which has the ability to slow the breakdown of acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter). Acetylcholine plays a role in the central nervous system to help our brain perform & keep our memory functioning. Low levels of acetylcholine are associated with Alzheimer's disease ALMONDS Nuts are a great source of Vitamin E (as well as +++) Studies suggest that an adequate intake of Vitamin E might help prevent cognitive decline, particularly in the elderly. BERRIES Consumption of blueberries may be effective in improving or delaying short term memory loss They contain a protective compound called anthocyanins

12.01.2022 Did you know that you can hire a TENS machine from our practice? TENS is a non-invasive pain management option for labour. It works by sending small signals into the body via electrodes which are placed onto the skin - this helps to block pain messages, release the body's naturally occurring pain-relieving endorphins, as well as provide a much needed distraction during contractions! You can hire a TENS machine from both our East Melbourne and Armadale location, our physiother...apists also offer TENS education and labour preparation consultations. If your due date is nearing and you would like more information, contact our team on 9822 4999 #tensmachine #tensaustralia #labour #painmanagement #birth #eastmelbourne #armadale #fitwise #physiotherapy
