This is when the lens inside our eye becomes less flexible and cannot change its own shape to change its magnification and our focus at different lengths. From a young age our lens is relaxed when we are looking in the distance and then changes its shape to increase its magnification when we look at something up close. When our lens can no longer change its own shape, we need to start w...earing reading glasses to add in external magnification to make up for this. People with hyperopic prescriptions (far-sightedness) tend to need reading glasses, and people with myopic prescriptions (short-sightedness) who wear distance glasses find they need to start taking their glasses off to read. 14.01.2022 Strabismus (often referred to as a lazy or turned eye) is the turning in, out, up or down of one eye while the other continues to focus on something. This can be due to an over- or under-active eye muscle pulling the eye in one direction too much, or can be due a high uncorrected refractive error (prescription). Lots of people notice that their children under the age of six months may have an eye that seems to wander and this generally tends to not be a concern up until about six months. If you have concerns about your child having a strabismic eye, call us to make an appointment and one of our skilled optometrists can assess their whole eye health and movement.
