25.01.2022 Hello all boaties who use the FMBC Laundry. Our erstwhile Treasurer Wayne Clifford informed members today that a new clothes dryer has been installed and is ready for use. Just in time for the wet season.
24.01.2022 Dave Ford's former coastguard vessel up on the FMBC slipways this week for a freshen up and antifouling this week. Beaut spring weather for it!
24.01.2022 Grant Perfect's 'Y Knot' on the FMBC small slip this week for hull and drive maintenance .
24.01.2022 These photos from the Fitzroy floods in the 1980's (recently posted to the 'Rockhampton Remember When' FB site) remind us that the 2020/21 flood season will soon be upon us. It is predicted to be a La Nina weather pattern summer with lots of tropical lows and above average rainfall. That second pic is the old FMBC building flooded to the eaves. All boat owners are urged to begin their flood preparation this month.
23.01.2022 'Wavebreaker' and 'Saga' on the FMBC slipways this week for annual maintenance. Nice weather for it.
23.01.2022 Hyacinth banked up above the barrage ! Yikes.
23.01.2022 'Sassenach' an ex-trawler also up on the FMBC Slipways this week for annual hull maintenance. Thanks to our treasurer and life member Wayne Clifford for sending these pics through.
22.01.2022 FMBC Commodore Tim Carrol has his vessel 'Wavebreaker' on the large slipway this week for annual hull maintenance. After the work is done he is headed down to the hut at Sea Hill. Boaties travelling out at night be aware that the red Bouy at Port Alma before the yellow is not lit at present.
19.01.2022 The 'Ena' all painted up and looking good before rolling back down the slipway this week. Owner Andrew Craig has done a nice job.
18.01.2022 Although we seem to have missed a big flow in the Fitzroy so far this summer, please remain prepared and vigilant. Planning ahead is the key for successfully dealing with floods! Have your vessel ready to go at all times. Newcomers should buddy up with experienced boaties who have dealt with all this before and be ready to move off your mooring and go around the corner towards Devil's Elbow before all the chaos happens. (Pic from the 1918 giant flood - Rockhampton Remember When FB site.)
16.01.2022 One Tree Island reef.
15.01.2022 Scientific Research Orange Zone - One Tree Island and Reef We have had advice today from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, that recreational vessels have recently been detected taking short cuts through the Orange Research Zones around One Tree Island in the Capricorn Bunker Group. If you are planning to travel to this reef area, please ensure that you have current maps for these protected zones and avoid the orange coded research only area. The University of Sydney has a Research Station there.
15.01.2022 We have enjoyed the recent rain and so has the grass around the club yards. A huge thank you to club members Lindsay, Ian and Neil for mowing in the heat this week. You are legends! Our club has been going for more than 100 years - mostly through the combined volunteer efforts of our members.
15.01.2022 The mighty 'Madonna' on the FMBC large slip this week. This boat was a top catcher of scallops and prawns in the 70's and 80's.
12.01.2022 'Blue Seabird' from Rosslyn Bay on the large slip this week. The owner Barry Lewis fully rebuilt a 5LW Gardner engine himself and replaced the old engine last year. A really great project effort that took him a year or two to complete. This boat was originally built in Tassie, looks like a Jock Muir design or similar.
10.01.2022 The 'Ena' on the FMBC Slipways this week. This is a beaut timber yacht with classic lines, built in about the 1940's. The owner Andy doing the pressure washdown of the hull.
09.01.2022 Lee Hohman's steel cruiser on the small slip for a pre - Christmas paint and polish. Hopefully, we will see 'Will Nat' offshore chasing a few fish during the hols.
06.01.2022 Look at these great historical photos. The old Town Wharves at Rockhampton just around and down from where the Motor Boat Clubhouse is now located. What a hive of effort it was to load and unload ships by hand. (Photos from the Rockhampton Pioneers FB site.)
06.01.2022 'Wavebreaker' all painted and hitting the water, with 'James Norman' in the background heading over to our wharf. Great time of year for booking your boat on the slip for annual maintenance.
06.01.2022 Rod Blanchard's houseboat 'Time Out' up on the slip apron today for outboard servicing. The FMBC slipways are busy, but there is always space somewhere to get your boat up on the slipways for maintenance before the summer holidays.
04.01.2022 On the large slip this week, Peter and Julie put in a big week getting their steel cruiser 'Nautigal' back in good shape.
03.01.2022 Wow ! What a difference a couple of weeks on the slip can do. Dieter's yacht has had both a hull and engine rejuvination and is looking great. Well done Dieter and Wayne.
03.01.2022 Deiter's Volvo engine from his yacht. Been to Brisbane for a rebuild, repaint and back to Rockhampton all within a fortnight. That's pretty good service!
03.01.2022 These great pics of big floods in Rockhampton are undated, but either from the 1918 or 1954 floods which were the biggest on record. The bridge pic is at the flood peak near the old suspension bridge and the other two near the railway yards are about 1 ft below peak level. ( Pics recently posted by Kerree Green to the Rockhampton Remember When FB page.)
02.01.2022 Just amazing photos! September 1938 at the town wharves Rockhampton (near the current FMBC site). The coastal steamer SS Mildura unloads 2000 tonnes of cargo and then reloads with local CQ wool bales. Thank you Ann Gaskell from the Rockhampton Pioneers FB site for posting these pics.
02.01.2022 FMBC member Hubert recently posted this beaut shot from 'Kalawe'. The Keppels are in sight! Whoo hoo!
01.01.2022 Shane's trimaran 'Tamarindah' up on the small FMBC slipway this week for hull maintenance. We put cats and tris on the smaller sllp as it has wider beam adjustment.
01.01.2022 Bigger than 'Ben Hur' as they say! An epic job done by the team this week to get her painted and ready for the water before the rain overnight.
