23.01.2022 What is your core? Most people have heard of their core, or have been told to switch on/activate their core. But what is it, and how do you switch it on? When people think of the core most people picture six pack abs and stop there! However, your core muscles are more the that. They are a large group of muscles responsible for stabilising your midsection, lower back, and pelvis region, which smoothly transfers all the forces between your upper and lower body. Because of thi...s it is important that you know how to switch on your core muscles because most activities and movement involve some co-ordination between your upper and lower body. Therefore, by switching on the core not only will you help protect your spine it can help improve your performance. The easiest way to properly switch on the core is to imagine you are bearing down as if you going to the bathroom. If when doing this you felt pressure/ tension develop in your mid-section congratulations you have switched on your core! See more

14.01.2022 For many people living in pain is an everyday occurrence. As a result, Pain Australia, has released an action plan to create change. One of the key components being to encourage patients to move. Movement is an essential part of pain management as it reduces muscle stiffness, decrease inflammation, calms the nervous system and retrains the brain in movement patterns. If you are finding it hard to get moving or dont know where to start, make an appointment with one of our qualified practitioners and let us help you to get moving again.

14.01.2022 Practising what we preach, Scott practising his squat technique and getting his body moving. Its important when we squat our spine remains upright and our hips move backwards. 10.01.2022 Do you or someone you know suffer from knee pain? Patellofemoral knee pain is the most common cause of knee pain. This pain is characterised by pain behind the kneecap (patella) that increases with climbing stairs or performing squatting movements. One of the most common causes of patellofemoral knee pain is increased tightness of muscles around the knee joint. One of the most common causes for this is from poor sitting posture, when sitting it is important to keep your feet ...directly under or in slightly in front of your knees, tucking them under your chair or sitting on your feet is going to result in increased muscle tightness and pressure on the knee joint. The good news is patellofemoral knee pain can easily be treated by soft tissue work and an exercise rehab plan. So if you suffer from knee pain come on in or call us and let the team at Five Dock Osteo Chiro help alleviate your symptoms. See more

08.01.2022 Great to see ABC shedding light onto this misconception and getting the message out there that movement is so beneficial to the body. Feeling pain in your joints during or after exercise is less to do with exercise and more to do with the techniques or old injuries around the affected area. This is where we are able to address any existing injuries or biomechanical changes to keep you doing the activities that you love. So if you are suffering from joint or muscle pain from exercise give us a call rather than stop moving.

06.01.2022 Winter is Coming! As the weather gets colder many people find their joints and muscles stiffen up. Often it is as simple as you are moving less and staying inside, in order to avoid the cold weather. However when we are cold our muscles and joinst get less blood flow making them tighten and stiffen. So rather than bracing yourself for winter, Its important to try and keep moving around (even if its just inside to stay warm) to keep our muscles and joints happy. Having tight and stiff muscles will increase your chance of an injury or pain occuring. So this winter if you are suffering from tight, achy, or painful joints and muscles give us call or come in and we can help keep your body moving and feeling happy!!
