25.01.2022 Sadly it’s impossible to photograph the platypuses at Numeralla but this homemade observatory on the edge of town is pretty cool too.

24.01.2022 Heading out of town for some bushwalking only to discover that the kids have some how taught themselves to play poker. Given the likely state of the job market in 10 years time this could be a very good thing.

24.01.2022 Long car trips - today we decided not to use the DVD player (despite the bowls of protest) and introduced the kids to the aural delights of Joy Division and Aztec Camera - listening pleasure in any landscape

24.01.2022 It's been a great day at the gallery but so glad we're not camping tonight. Enough rain Canberra - it's summer!!!

23.01.2022 Retro holiday experiences - part 1

23.01.2022 Blissfully peaceful camping near Mt Selwyn

21.01.2022 Total fire ban meant we had to evacuate our camp site - but I think we've got our priorities straight - leave the food, take the books. Oh and the sunscreen.

20.01.2022 The tooth fairy made a visit last night and what to we find today? - the Tooth Fairy's castle at Yarrangobilly Caves.

20.01.2022 Casterton is hipster heaven. So wishing someone would buy this vintage cordial factory. Looks like it still has all the original equipment.

18.01.2022 Happy New Year everyone from sunny Canberra

17.01.2022 Wishing you all a safe, happy and enriching 2017 - from Tidbinbilla. Lesson for the year - This kangaroo has been sleeping in our yard all morning. Note the joey on the far side of the fence ( a fence she's too small to jump over). The wisdom of nature.

17.01.2022 All hail Canberra

17.01.2022 Kiandra a former gold mining town high in the Snowy Mountains but more importantly the site of Australia's first ski club, first ski run with a ski tow and very probably the birthplace of downhill skiing as we know it today (thanks to some Norwegian migrants). A place that deserves more recognition.

16.01.2022 A day on the Coorong - crossing the estuary, surfing dunes and reading Storm Boy

16.01.2022 Pubs of Braidwood - according to local legend Mick Jagger first performed Brown Sugar in one of them.

15.01.2022 More messing about in boats. Learning to read navigation charts and to read the the water. And the ultimate team challenge, mooring near a frighteningly expensive catamaran.

15.01.2022 Five mess about in boats. Time to tackle the Gippsland Lakes - not quite Bonnie Doon but oh the serenity!

15.01.2022 2017 Day one - may every day end as well as this

14.01.2022 Cooma Op shop (proud mother moment) - Me 'Are you sure these are okay; they're boys shorts.' L 'Muuuuum, there's no such thing as boys clothes and girls clothes. You've got to create your own style.'

14.01.2022 Five for the road takes on Mount Hotham, our first trip to this brilliant ski field with the kids. Thanks Ali and Kev for letting us stay at your beautiful lodge. Great skiing with you. Brilliant to catch up with you today.

14.01.2022 For the uninitiated skiing is a ridiculous sport. It's dependent on our fickle weather, it's expensive and it can be dangerous. But today our kids lived one of life's great lessons - storms never last, and those who can weather them can reap their rewards. Finally some blue skies. Great skiing today with you Mark.

13.01.2022 Retro holiday experiences - part 2 Fishing on the Glenelg River and the one we had to let get away

12.01.2022 Hello Marlo Loving this seaside gem, where the Snowy River meets the sea. Feels like weve travelled back to the 1980s.

11.01.2022 A day at the War Memorial -emotionally intense for the kids , especially the last post. Our highlight - a display of the NORFORCE indigenous soldiers and scouts in Arnhem Land in WW2. We were fortunate to stay with one of their descendants last year.

11.01.2022 Our last day exploring the Snowy Mountains - who knew our kids could get so excited about civil engineering and old huts in the high country. Hmmmm well now that I think about it...

10.01.2022 Home at last and getting used to having electricity and running water. But we didn't expect our back lawn to do this. Melbourne summer - you never can tell.... Thanks DB for keeping watch over the hacienda

07.01.2022 At last... you can even smell the serenity. http://www.tidbinbilla.act.gov.au///hiring-nil-desperandum

06.01.2022 That moment when the decision to pack a box set of the original Thunderbirds series pays off. Orbost to Cooma is a long, long drive.

06.01.2022 Sadly its impossible to photograph the platypuses at Numeralla but this homemade observatory on the edge of town is pretty cool too.

05.01.2022 Salt therapy at Robe

05.01.2022 Good morning Shoalhaven River

04.01.2022 Holiday over - feeling deflated. Returning home to clean water on tap - feeling elated

03.01.2022 Farewell Cathedral Ranges, challenging walks, old ruins to explore, shady swimming holes, cooking on an open fire, toasting marshmallows, hanging out with my brother and his 4 not so little munchkins - a weeks worth of fun in 2 days. Feeling in denial about school starting next week.

03.01.2022 Just found out fireworks are no longer legal in the ACT.Boo Hoo Hoo http://mobile.abc.net.au//2009-/act-bans-fireworks/1402218

03.01.2022 Five for the road takes on the Trienniel. A perfect crazy end to a wild and crazy summer

02.01.2022 Nelson -a blissful seaside village near the SA border

02.01.2022 Our last day in Canberra - radio telescopes, art, books and the National Mint. It's a geeks paradise. And a new family first - out to dinner and everyone is too busy reading to bother eating!
