22.01.2022 Its that Time of the year for your hot water unit to get its yearly service. As we are coming into winter the hot water unit is working overtime without keeping it serviced the tank can split and cost $$$$$$$ Your hot water system should be serviced every five years. During a proper service, your plumber will replace the TPR and the tempering valve, which mixes the flow of hot and cold together. Your plumber will also need to replace your sacrificial anode. As the name sugge...sts, the sacrificial anode bears the brunt of rusts insatiable appetite for metal. This clever strip of magnesium pulls the rust towards the rod in the centre of the hot water system and away from the outer shell, but its ability to do its job is drastically reduced once it reaches its fifth year of use. Without a replacement, the rust will cling to the shell instead, and can rust out the hot water system in a matter of months. See more
