20.01.2022 A copy of my letter, sent to the Yorke Peninsula Council 1 year ago. Still no action Attention: C.E.O. Andrew Cameron... I am writing to express my concern over the extremely serious dust problem I and other residents are experiencing on the North Coast Rd, Point Turton. With winter over and the road having dried out, every time vehicles drive by there are huge clouds of dust, even more so when vehicles exceed the speed limit which they constantly do. This dust can be so thick at times that it is now becoming a major health concern, particularly with the passage of 100 + vehicles a day. This thick dust contains exhaust emissions, brake lining particulates and many more pollutants and I and my family and all others living along or near the road are at risk of respiratory health issues. Many times I am unable to be outside and am forced to remain indoors with my doors and windows shut to avoid constantly breathing this dust. Also this excessive amount of dust then having settled on our roofs, contaminates our rainwater. The dust has become so problematic, that my children and grandchildren will no longer come to stay with me. I often use other unsealed roads in the council area and have not seen any as bad as this one. Since paving this road is nothing more than a pipe dream at this stage I would ask that until this road is paved, the council, during the drier months, spray a dust suppression product on this road particularly in front of the residences/shacks that front the road in order to mitigate this health concern. I am aware that this practice occurs in some other local council areas which experience severe dust problems. I firmly believe that Council have a duty of care to residents with regard to their health on this issue. I would also like to inform you that I contacted the EPA asking them to monitor the air quality along this road. They maintain it is a council problem, hence my e-mail. Kind regards, Neil Armstrong
14.01.2022 PLEASE READ THIS COPY OF AN EMAIL SENT TO COUNCIL YESTERDAY. ANY RESPONSES RECEIVED WILL BE POSTED TO THIS PAGE. WE WILL SEE WHO ACTUALLY GIVES A DAMN!! To: Andrew Cameron... Trevor Graham Anthony Bennett Adam Meyer Kristin Murdock John Rich Hi all I am writing to express my deep concern over the state of the North Coast road, Point Turton. When will you seal this road? This road is dangerous (corrugated, potholed and extremely dusty) aside from being unhealthy (choking dust when vehicles pass). This dust also contaminates our rainwater, our only source of water. I am so totally sick and tired of the platitudes being served up to the residents and ratepayers along this road. Council has already wasted ratepayers’ money on surveying and re-sheeting this road with inappropriate materials and has wasted money on consultants who came up with grandiose plans of turning it into something much more than is needed. All ratepayers want for this road is that it be sealed, nothing more, or at least sealed in the vicinity of our houses. Your inaction is devaluing our properties and costing us unduly for maintenance while you charge us residential rates for a pathetic rural road as you call it. We do not have street sweeping, street lighting and all the other services that ratepayers in the township receive. All we receive is rubbish collection (a separate charge on our rate notice) and road grading that is done no more frequently than any other comparable rural road. Council’s attempts at obtaining grant money for this road have obviously failed. I believe it is about time council stopped procrastinating and got on with doing something positive about this road. Your vehicle counter at the start of the road would indicate that the North Coast road is much more than just a standard rural road. I do not want to be fobbed off with a pathetic standard response letter with excuses as to why Council can’t fix our road, I would like something positive detailing when you are going to fix it. Regards, Neil Armstrong 177 North Coast Road. Point Turto

03.01.2022 With the permission of Clive Ragless, this is a copy of a letter sent to the News, Yorke Peninsula Country Times & Council CEO, Mayor, and Ward councillors. Dear Sir/Madam We need your help.... For many years now over 150 houses and their owners have had to put up with conditions on the North Coast Road at Point Turton York Peninsula which are a threat to life and health and which they should not have to endure in a modern and wealthy Country. There has been a death of a small child due to the condition of this road and the road is now far more dangerous than it was when this tragedy occurred. On some days over 700 vehicles use this road and the dust is totally extreme with some houses directly on the road edge. Many vehicles are towing trailers with heavy boats and it is impossible to stop these vehicles in an emergency, in addition visibility can be only a few metres because of the dust. We suffer continual damage to our vehicles and properties and we are constantly breathing the dust and drinking water that is contaminated with everything that is on the road. We appeal to the local Council, and the local Federal and State MP’s without effect although they seem to hear what we say and have some sympathy for our situation. Applications for funding have been refused, we are neglected and forgotten, Speed limits are often ignored a fact that is denied by the Police who are never seen on the road. Please assist us with some publicity as it seems that it is the only language that is understood by our Governments. I am more than happy to have a meeting with anyone prepared to help us and will arrange for a group of residents to attend. Regards Clive Ragless 128 North Coast Road Point Turton.SA
