25.01.2022 If you are in need of a good belly laugh, have a read of the transcript of Steve Austin's painstaking interview with the Qld Govt Transport Minister about whether Logan is a city or not and whether the Qld government considers it to be part of the Brisbane metropolitan area. Let's be clear here - These are not questions that would normally need to asked as the answers are plainly obvious but apparently Mark Bailey MP for Yeerongpilly thinks Logan City (yes, it is officially ...known as "Logan City") is not a city at all, is is actually a "regional" area. More importantly, he continues to blame his illogical theory on the Federal Government. What a muppet. #fixtheM1 Bert van Manen MP
23.01.2022 Ok, so the Turnbull Government today announced $1b for an M1 upgrade. This is a good thing, but there are serious questions around this that have not been answered, the most pertinent being: 1. The proposal requires the State Government to match the Federal Government's pledge dollar for dollar. I see there being a better chance that pigs might fly than the Pallascuk Administration agreeing to this without a fight. The funding split stoush will surely erupt again which means ...- You guessed it - More delays and political games. 2. The reports I've read note that this will upgrade the M1 between Eight Mile Plains and Daisy Hill - I can only assume this means they're not doing anything with the Shailer Park/Loganholme stretch between Loganlea Road and the Logan River which, if true, is another epic facepalm moment that rivals any to come before it. Until these questions, among others, are answered there is no point getting excited about any of this. I have a bad feeling that this latest episode will do nothing but trigger more shenanigans. Here's hoping I'm wrong. #FixTheM1
23.01.2022 I think we're all pretty much desensitised to the daily M1 crawl now, but today the old girl was moving at a glacial pace in both directions as accidents caused chaos leading up to the long weekend. #FixTheM1

14.01.2022 Direct quote from this article from the Gold Coast Bulletin: "The widening of the Gold Coast and Logan stretches of the motorway will not happen until after the Games, forcing plans to be taken back to the drawing board." So there you have it folks, not a sod of dirt will be turned on the M1 upgrade until after the completion of the Commonwealth Games in 2018 - A whole two years from now. 04.01.2022 Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but the badly neglected northbound carriageway on the M1 through Logan is gridlocked almost permanently now. At various times over the past week I have been caught in four separate traffic snarls heading north, and none of them were during the morning peak period. None of them involved a traffic accident either - They were just pure congestion. This is madness. While everyone bitches and moans about the Gateway bottleneck and who's gonna pay to fix it, problems are compounding elsewhere and there are basically no plans to address them. 01.01.2022 Well wonders never cease. Deal has been reached between State and Federal Governments and a Gateway Merge fix announced. Nothing for the rest of the corridor and no real details on when works might begin but at least it's a start. I'm fascinated to find out what the funding split agreement ended up being.
