16.01.2022 Flagstaff Hill Primary School would like to acknowledge the work of all of our school volunteers this year, particularly given the difficulties presented by the COVID pandemic. Thank you. We really appreciate all of your support. This year’s Volunteering Award for Outstanding Service was presented to Narelle Hodgson, in acknowledgement of her significant contribution to our school. Narelle has been a parent of daughters at our school for more than ten years and was a studen...t here herself. She is our Governing Council Chairperson and is passionately supportive of students, staff and the wider school community. In addition you can often see Narelle helping out in the canteen or coaching a sporting team. It would be impossible to list all of the ways that Narelle has volunteered at our school, suffice to say, she might as well be on staff!! Thank you Narelle.

Students read 'The Rainbow Serpent', a dreamtime story about the creation of the land. Students then used both paint and oil pastels to create a mural!

11.01.2022 More sharing from Aboriginal Culture Week (Banba-Ban-Balya): Some sharing from Mrs Keizer's Year 7 students who celebrated Indigenous Culture in a variety of ways this week: * Students looked at Dreaming stories and unpacked the themes and linked them to our reading strategies.... * They studied different Indigenous people Bennelong, Eddie Mabo, Vincent Lingiari, Cathy Freeman and David Unaipon. They will now choose one of these to write an information report on. * Stolen Girl students were introduced to the topic of The Stolen Generation by listening to the story and completing different activities each day. * Students studied 8 different ways of Aboriginal learning, comparing them to the ways that we learn. * Art work a mural was created where each student had a piece which was joined together at the end. They did poppy artwork for Remembrance Day. Their final piece was a mixed media piece of art inspired by the narrative ‘Welcome to Country’ by Aunty Joy Murphy and Lisa Kennedy. * Finally our session with Tamaru. Mrs Keizer had her face painted (a sign of respect). Tamaru stressed to all the students to be respectful to all teachers! See more
