17.01.2022 What a weekend! What an event! Smokin’ The Downs in Oakey Qld was a great start to the year. Alongside the local agricultural show, thousands of visitors & locals came out to enjoy the activities and see us and 30 other great BBQ teams battle it out. Teams were treated to a few beers and the best steak burger in Oakey on Friday night, thanks to the promoter and all round good guy Grant Coleman. Later than usual hand in times meant we could enjoy a campfire and an extra beer ...or two before bed! A nice smooth cook, save for a small issue with our fire going out in the Gateway Drum Smokers. Noticed in time, relit and fired up again, the Oakey Beef Exports brisket was not perturbed! The colour from the Elk Creek rubs from The Que Club on our Super Butcher pork butt was phenomenal. We had some good results in light of the depth of a quality field. 10th Chicken 7th Brisket 14th Pork 22nd Ribs 14th overall is a fair placement! Our great salad dodging friends nailed Grand Champions and the Big Smoke team for reserve grand champions.
