25.01.2022 Here’s Sharon, a 51kg paddler in a genuine LV fast touring kayak, coming to the end of a windy 41km crossing using her Trade Wind 0.7m sail. A perfect match to the smaller paddler. https://flatearthkayaksails.com.au//pro/trade-wind-70-sail
24.01.2022 The Footloose 80 framing a beautiful Whitsundays sunset.
24.01.2022 Just a reminder with Xmas around the corner that we are well stocked with all sails across the range, with a new batch coming in this week. We’ve also added a couple of component sets if you’re after an extra set up on a second kayak. Check out our range on-line or visit your local dealer to see the sails and kits up close. https://flatearthkayaksails.com.au/collections/all
22.01.2022 The Limited Edition Footloose Tropics Sail, made to remind us that we will be back paddling in warm tropical winds one day soon!
20.01.2022 Sunset behind Saddleback Island on a North Queensland expedition, whistling along on the trade winds with the Footloose 80 tight and cranking it!
19.01.2022 Four years to the day since the one and only Mick MacRobb was taken from us. One of the worlds loveliest men, and a true innovator who’s design and philosophy on kayaking and sailing live on in his wonderful designs. Miss you, mate.
18.01.2022 Order your new Footloose 80 through the link below, $390 and due into stock early next week! https://flatearthkayaksails.com.au/products/footloose-80-new
17.01.2022 Douglas Wilcox First Impressions - the new Flat Earth Footloose 0.8m Sail. The friendship between Mick MacRobb & Douglas Wilcox, whilst separated by basically the entire expanse of the globe, was firmly established by their shared love for sailing & paddling. Douglas was an avid supporter of Micks, and really you can credit the pair of them for the rise in popularity of kayak sailing in the UK & Europe, through Mick's great designs, and Douglas' gift of writing and photogra...phing his kayak sailing adventures among the Tolkien-esque islands & bays of his native Scotland. We're sure Mick would have wanted Douglas to be the first recipient of the new Footloose Sail, so we sent him one off a few weeks ago to see what he thought of this powerful new sail, designed for those who like a bit more punch. Reading Douglas' first impressions below, we're treated to another view of the development of this re-formatted sail from the '90's, as he & Mick had been in earnest conversation about the Footloose while it was being prototyped. As always with anything written by Douglas, enjoy the words and the images! https://seakayakphoto.blogspot.com//flat-earth-kayak-sails See more
14.01.2022 Video - Flat Earth Kayak Sails, Proudly Made in the Suburbs of Sydney. Our sails aren't mass produced in a huge overseas factory, they're crafted by master sailmaker Neil Tasker in a suburban sail loft, made by hand, checked meticulously for any flaws or faults, with the highest quality materials & fabrics. When you buy a Flat Earth Sail, you're buying Mick MacRobb's brilliant designs, made by one of Australia's most respected sailmakers. For less than the price of a cheap copy carbon kayak paddle, you're getting an artisan product that is tried and tested in the sea, from the lochs of Scotland to the wild waters of Bass Strait. For info and ordering go to www.flatearthkayaksails.com.au
11.01.2022 Introducing - the Flat Earth Kayak Sails 'Footloose 80'. The biggest announcement from Flat Earth Kayak Sails since the release of the Trade Wind Series in 2015, the brand new Footloose '80. Based on the sails designed by Andrew Eddy in the 1990's, remodelled with Mick's expert input, and tested extensively everywhere from North Queensland to Bass Strait over the last 18 months. A sail for experienced kayak sailors looking for more outright drive to catch running seas and/or those paddling heavy kayaks. an addition to the Flat Earth Kayak Sails range designed as a compact sail ideally suited to those experienced and adventurous kayaker sailors chasing some more performance without going to a bigger sail. http://expeditionkayaks.blogspot.com.au//rob-mercer-introd
11.01.2022 Two years ago today we lost the one & only Mick MacRobb. The breeze continues to fill Mick's sails and carry paddlers on their adventures all around the world. If you're out today with the wind in your sail, spare a thought for Lyn & Mick's family as they remember a true gentleman, taken from us too soon. Go well Mick, we'll raise a glass in your memory today.
10.01.2022 Love this pic from 2011, an original Trade Wind 80 rigged up and furled at sunset, ready for a dawn launch attempting a 95km open water crossing.
09.01.2022 Well here's something you don't see every day, and Waldy at Caribbean Water Cycling in Puerto Rico is raving about the performance..! Very cool.... https://youtu.be/dcnwAMSOgi8
07.01.2022 DIY Video - Flat Earth Kayak Sails - A Practical Guide Whilst not quite in the same league as Mick MacRobb's legendary 'how to' video series, here's Rob & Mark attempting to de-mystify the installation of one of our sails. Grab a cuppa and relax, this might even prove to be an ideal COVID DIY project! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGEFF0jOOe0
07.01.2022 How good is this footage from Chris Porter at World Paddle...?!
07.01.2022 The new Footloose 80, now our most popular sail. Here's a shot from a recent expedition along the famous Nadgee Wilderness on the NSW/Victorian border.
07.01.2022 Oh dear, we’ve just been made aware of yet another copy of the Flat Earth Trade Wind 80 Sail, this time by a kayak company in Sweden. They’ve even used a photo of a Trade Wind 80 in their promotions..... This happened to poor Mick here in Australia a few years ago and was met with unanimous condemnation by the kayaking community, something he was incredibly grateful for at the time. If you see this blatant rip off in Europe, understand it for what it is and please be mindful ...that this design took many years to perfect. We continue to improve, test and refine the materials and designs of all Flat Earth Sails and hope good people appreciate our efforts. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery but that’s small consolation in a village as small as the global sea kayaking community. Thanks all!
04.01.2022 A nice display at Expedition Kayaks in Sydney, showing off the 0.7m Trade Wind Sail. Flat Earth have plenty of stock in all models, and its sailing season folks! Not sure how you'd sail this table though....!
04.01.2022 Congratulations to Amar, winner of the Mick MacRobb award for best photo at this weekend’s Victorian Sea Kayak Club Blue Water Festival.
01.01.2022 A nice shot of both Flat Earth Sail designs side by side, the new Footloose 80 (left) and the tried & tested Trade Wind 80 (right).
