25.01.2022 I was contacted about 3 weeks ago by a bloke we'll call Pat, which is not his real name. Pat told me he was entered in the knuckleman fightnight on March 6. P...at wanted sparing. Pat spared 2 rds and was exhausted. He could not do half of the 2.4 km run that others training do. He did not stay for rest of the session. Pat reapeared the next week. Pat told me he'd been playing basketball as his training prep. I had Pat spa 2 rds with a boxer who's had 1 fight and was more than 20kg lighter! The lighter boxer boxed Pat's ears off and hurt him once withy a body shot. I then told Pat the guys he would be fighting were unfathomabley better than the lad he just spared. I told Pat he was not anywhere fit enough to start training for a fight let alone be in one against real boxers! The smartest thing Pat did was pull out of the fight! So Knuckleman is now looking for another under 80kg entry! See more

11.01.2022 Pretenders are in all aspects and endeavours in life! when people pretend to be boxing trainers it becomes dangerous. Recently I had a first time trainer at A.O.S. Boxing. He 's in his late teens or early 20s,he just did a light session, a bit of Calasthenics, Ab. Strengthening, a short run, a bit of shadow boxing and 1 rd on pads with me. After training he told me that at the last gym he went to, over a year ago the trainers both spared with him and ''gave me a bit of a touch up!'' he said! This bullying behaviour has no place in a good boxing trainer's way of doing things!.It can hurt novices and discourage them from boxing as a sport and bullys masquerading as trainers have no place in our sport!

Allan Patterson and Pat...rick Clark are the only real boxers on a night of 'boxing!' The amateurs is the grass level roots of boxing and it was pulled out on Wednesday! If you want the youth of Townsville to get involved don't cancel their appearance at the last minute. 10.01.2022 Boxing's not always about big fights and titles. Sometimes there's a person fighting a battle that they've been fighting for a helluva long time. This story is about one of those great people. A few years back I was training a young man who'd been through 30+ foster homes, and the rest of a bad start that these tales usually involve, sadly. My guy, who'd fought a draw in his first pro fight, after winning 10 of 11? amateur fights was matched with a local tough guy who'd ...had a win in his only pro. Other guy was a kickboxer-martial arts local and the fight was matched over 4x3min rds. So my boxer bought his A-Game, boxed well and won on points. We were all happy with the performance and celebrations were breaking out by the time we hit the dressing rooms! My boxer pulled me aside and with emotions coming to the surface said to me ''Gonzo that's the best win ever for me, ya see, I was at school with that guy, he was a bit of a hard pric, bully and we were all scared of him ! and I just beat him fair 'n square! thanks! that's just awesome.'' 08.01.2022 An x boxer of mine who had a 9w 1 loss with me as an amateur then 1w 2L 1d as a pro has come back to training with his 13yo son. I love this sort of loyalty and respect. We will call him Jamie. So Jamie was telling me last week about this bloke he works with mouthing off about how he was an x pro boxer with Johnny Lewis in Sydney 'back in the day.' Some of tales mention how co-worker, who's a little fella! had belted Tony Mundine in sparing and had him quit during a sparring session! a lightweight? anyway I told Jamie 'you were a fighter! this bloke just wishes he was one.''

04.01.2022 Here's another memory from my experiences as a trainer! In the mid 1990s i had a good young amateur male boxer we'll call Tim{not his real name). In the State titles Tim got edged out on points in the finals by Mal (not his real name). Silver medalists and gold medalists went through to the Aussie Titles in Melbourne that year. I heard from good sources that Mal was a recreational marijuana user. So within earshot of Mal and his trainer I put out that ''it's going to be real good that they're doing regular drug tests this year at the Australian titles!'' At the Aussie titles Tim was the only Queenslander in his division! Mal had withdrawn! Tim won his first and only Australian title that year!.
