08.01.2022 Favourite Karting Memory Garth Tander For Garth Tander, karting was more than just a sport that eventually lead him to a very successful career as a professio...nal racing car driver, it was a sport that gave him so many memories with his younger brother Leon and his parents. Traveling the state with my family is something that I probably didnt appreciate at the time, but upon reflection, spending so much time with the family on those long road trips is something Im looking forward to doing with my family now, said Tander. It all started for Garth in 1985 at the Tiger Kart Club in Western Australia, before going on to win various State championships and open meets with long-time supporter and friend Greg Dicker of Flatout Karts. In 1996 he transitioned into the Australian Formula Ford Championship, which he won the following year. In 1998, Tander landed a drive with Garry Rogers Motorsport alongside Jason Bargwanna. The pair went on to win the Bathurst 1000 in 2000. Tander led Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes to the 2007 Supercars Championship with the HSV Dealer Team before joining the Holden Racing Team in 2008. During his career Tander has won the Bathurst 1000 on three occasions and last year finished second with Shane van Gisbergen with the Red Bull Holden Racing Team. Later this year, he will again pair with Van Gisbergen for their campaign in the PIRTEK Enduro Cup. Tanders relationship with Greg Dicker of Flatout Karts continues to this day with his children, Scarlett and Sebastian both having their first taste of karting in similar equipment to Garth, a DPE-made Arrow kart.
