25.01.2022 Hi everyone. Here's a smoothie I made from one banana, a few strawberries, a handful of blueberries, low fat milk and water and a dessert spoon of chia seeds. Chia seeds are high in omega 3 fatty acids which are beneficial for your heart and brain function. They are also high in fibre and an excellent source of protein and calcium. As a result they make you feel fuller longer and therefore make a great and healthy filler in between meals. Go on. Give them a try. Catch you soon. Mark
25.01.2022 Hi everyone. I know they are hard to see but in this salad I have included brown lentils. These little beauties are high in protein, fibre and essential minerals and are a great alternative to meat. The soluble and insoluble fibre is excellent for digestion and controlling blood sugar levels and combined with the protein make you feel fuller longer. Go on. Add them to your next salad. They are yummy. Catch you soon. Mark
24.01.2022 Congratulations to the Prospect Flatout Fitness team on a fantastic year of training! Have a great Christmas and be sure to recharge over the new year break. You all did a great job. All the best and Ho Ho Ho! Rock paper scissors may never be the same again! Catch you soon. Mark
23.01.2022 Hi everyone. Try to pack as much into your sandwiches as you can. Wholemeal or wholegrain seeded bread with chicken, tomato, cucumber, capsicum, cheese, baby spinach and rocket. Add hummus and you have a very simple and healthy lunch. Go on. Stay healthy and happy. Catch you soon. Mark
23.01.2022 Now for Christmas Holiday tip number 3. Try to apply the practice of one alcoholic drink followed by one glass of water. Alcohol is preferentially metabolised by the body so that any other excess carbohydrates and fats consumed may then be retained as fat. Drinking water every other glass will not only positively affect your weight control but also keep you safe on the roads too. Here are some of my Glenunga group who always follow this principal. Don't you team!
22.01.2022 And finally, tip number 5. Most of all this Christmas holiday period, spend as much time with the people you love, family and friends. And try to appreciate them as much as you possibly can. Dont get too wound up with expectation and be thankful that you are able to spend a special time of the year with some very special people. Give them all a big hug and just hang on that little bit longer than normal. The social and health benefits of group training cannot be overstated.... Clients have often become my friends and friends of each other. Here are a great group of friends of mine from the old Gribbles Pathology days, Cheryl, Mark and Alex who have been with me since I began personal training. Thanks team! Great effort this year everyone and congratulations on trying to affect your health in a positive way. Merry Christmas and have a safe, happy and healthy New Year in 2019. ~ In memory of an old friend and work colleague of mine, John Dawkins, who was sadly killed in a motorcycle accident on Sunday the 18th of November, 2018. ~
20.01.2022 Hey everyone. If you want to stay well over winter and boost your immune system then make sure you get enough shut-eye. A research group from the University of California San Francisco found that those who sleep six hours or less per night are four times more likely to catch a cold when exposed to the virus than those who sleep seven or more. Good luck to those of you with small children/monsters! Stay tuned for more helpful tips this winter and I'll catch you soon. Mark
19.01.2022 A big congratulations to Mark, Cheryl, Alex and Brian. They have all been clients of Flatout Fitness for 10 years! A true showing of commitment to their health and fitness. Well done you lot and thank you for your support over the years. Here's to the next 10 years!
19.01.2022 Hi everyone. Please take a few minutes to read my latest newsletter article on my website. Follow the link www.flatoutfitness.com.au//how-to-live-a-long-healthy-life to learn how the longest living peoples on the planet go about it. I hope you enjoy it. Catch you soon. Mark
18.01.2022 Hi everyone. Here's a great way to start your day. A slice of whole grain toast with an egg, sliced avocado, tomato and crumbled feta cheese topped with a few basil leaves. Avocado is a great source of heart healthy fats and like tomato is loaded with vitamins and minerals. Both are also great sources of fibre. Basil is full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial agents. Feta cheese provides gut friendly bacteria and has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. The egg is your protein source to make you feel full. So, instead of having just a piece of toast or muesli, try this for your next breakfast. Its quick and easy. Go on. Give it a go. Catch you soon. Mark
18.01.2022 Vivian and I went out to lunch the other day and had this great meal. It was called a Super Breakfast Salad. It was yummy and made by The Coffee Barun, our favourite local cafe. It consisted of mixed greens, sprouts, carrot, cashews, cranberries and pumpkin seeds, topped with avocado, poached eggs and kale pesto.Mmm...mmm! So the next time you get stuck with ideas for a salad, consider some of those ingredients. Great taste and great texture. And of course, very good for you. Catch you soon. Mark
17.01.2022 OK. Good health Tip number 2. Leading up to and after Christmas we get invited to many functions, so try to include some healthy choices with the naughty ones. For example, try to compliment cheese and dips with healthy options such as raw vegetables including cucumber, capsicum, carrot and sliced tomato, instead of crackers and bread. Use small plates so that the serving size is controlled and decide to return for seconds - only once!
17.01.2022 Five Good Health Tips for the Christmas Holiday period. Hi everyone. With Christmas almost upon us I thought Id give you a few good health tips on how to get through this wonderful but often tricky time. I'll give you a tip each day over the next five days. Here we go! 1. My first tip for this Christmas is to enjoy the day and dont get too weighed down (pardon the pun) with guilt about overindulging. If you have been vigilant about what you eat and drink leading up to this ...day of celebration with family and friends, then one day isnt going to make much difference. Its the weeks leading up to and after Christmas day that we need to do our best to apply normal sensible healthy eating and drinking principles. When we allow overindulgence to persist for weeks, then we run into trouble. So, have a great Christmas day. Just have some fun for a day... maybe two. See more
16.01.2022 Well done to the Flatout Fitness bunch at Rex Reserve, North Plympton. Battled hard in the heat for the last session of the year and rewarded with a great night at Leonie and Mike's place afterwards (thanks very much Leonie and Mike). Congratulations on a great year of training and have a wonderful Christmas with your families. Recharge and I'll see you all in the New Year. All the best, Mark.
14.01.2022 Hi everyone. Sometimes training in the early morning can be quite surreal. It was absolutely beautiful and almost enchanting Tuesday morning training in the fog. Here are Rachel and Kristin giving it their all in the training wonderland at Glenunga. I wouldn't miss training at this time outdoors for the world. Catch you soon. Mark
14.01.2022 Hi everyone. This tip is a given for staying healthy this winter. US research has found that those people who exercise regularly were better equipped to fend off colds and flu. In a study of 1000 people, those who exercised 5 times or more per week had 43 percent fewer days with upper respiratory tract infections than those who exercised one day or less. And in addition, when the frequent exercisers did get a cold, they had milder symptoms than the less frequent. As if you didn't already know. Catch you soon. Mark
13.01.2022 Hi everyone. If you are looking for an alternative to lollies or cakes as a snack, give almonds a go. They provide 6 grams of protein per 1/4 cup serving to satisfy those hunger pangs. My wife Vivian says that they have been a great snack to recalibrate her sugar cravings. This is probably due to the high Magnesium content which also helps bone health and eases muscle soreness and spasms. Vivian buys a mix of raw, dry roasted and Tamari almonds. Tamari is a Japanese soy sauce but contains little or no wheat. Almonds also contain Vitamin E which is important for the health of skin and hair. Give them a try. Catch you soon. Mark
12.01.2022 Hey there everyone. Another tip to boost your immune system this winter is to get enough vitamin D. And the best source of vitamin D is sunshine. Try to get 20 minutes per day through winter, preferably in the morning and late afternoon. This is one reason why Flatout Fitness training sessions are outdoors in the fresh air and generally at such times. So stay healthy and I will catch you soon. Mark
10.01.2022 Hi everyone. Please follow the link www.flatoutfitness.com.au/general/are-you-ready to my website for my latest newsletter article about being "ready to make a change to a healthier you". I hope you get something out of it. Catch you soon. Mark
10.01.2022 A great start to Flatout Fitness monthly happy hours at Prospect last night. After a big session it was a fantastic chance to wind down, destress and have a relaxing chat with our training colleagues and friends. We'll done team!
09.01.2022 Hi everyone. Now that the cooler weather has definitely arrived it's a great time to get some roasted vegetables on the menu. This time it was beetroot, pumpkin and potato. Just spray with a little olive oil, season with salt and pepper, pop them in the oven at about 180 degrees and about 30 minutes later there done. Couldn't be any easier. I sprinkled a few sage leaves around too which end up crunchy and full of flavour. They're great as an accompaniment to your favourite roast meat or as we often have them, just on their own. No excuses with this one. Give it a go and I will catch you all soon. Mark
08.01.2022 Tip number 4 for the Christmas Holidays. Make the most of the beautiful balmy mornings and evenings to take a few extra walks and declutter the mind. We all need to switch off for a while over this busy holiday period and de-stress for the new year ahead. Exercise is the perfect way to let go of all the worries and take a time-out. Its also pretty good for your physical wellbeing too. Here are some of my Prospect team who train in and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Memorial Gardens, Prospect.
07.01.2022 Kristin and I missed you this morning Leanne. Busting your a.. is just not the same without you. Is it Kristin? There was certainly a lot less chatter as well. Why was that? I wonder. Mmm... Catch you next week Leanne. Enjoy sunny Queensland while you can. Evil laugh...
07.01.2022 Hi everyone. Here's the Wednesday night team doing their best to keep up with the longest living peoples on the planet. After training on the last Wednesday night of the month we will share a glass of wine at the Glenunga Hub. As reported in my last article about people who live long healthy lives in the Blue Zones we too will de-stress and enjoy a glass of wine together and have a chat on a regular basis and hopefully improve our health at the same time. And if anyone would like to join us, whether you are an existing client or would just like to know more about Flatout Fitness, please feel free to come along, 6:45 pm, on the last Wednesday of the month. 06.01.2022 The first of the crop! First of the strawberries from our little fruit and vegetable garden. I thought it might be fun for the girls to grow and eat some of their favourite fruit and vegetables so we planted strawberries, cucumbers, capsicum and cherry tomatoes with a few herbs like basil, thyme and coriander. All going well so far. The strawberries were soft, sweet and juicy. The best I've had for a long time. Go on. Give it a go. Catch you soon. Mark
06.01.2022 Boxing for exercise is a great way to get the heart rate up. Here's Brian ripping it up and showing that pad who's the boss with some mean knee strikes. With the cooler weather ahead there's no better time to train hard and tone up those muscles. Great work yesterday boys and I'll catch you all soon. Mark
05.01.2022 Hi everyone. Here's a very simple but healthy lunch. Spinach, carrot, cucumber, tomato, capsicum and crumbled fetta cheese, tossed in a little olive oil and a squeeze of lemon juice. Serve with a slice of whole grain bread made with quinoa topped with a caramelised onion spread. So there you go, easily prepared the night or morning before work and very yummy! Add cannellini beans or nuts for extra texture or to make it a little more filling. Go on. Give it a go. Catch you soon. Mark

03.01.2022 Hi everyone. When it comes to staying healthy I think you should always try to keep it simple. Breakfast consisting of muesli made up of whole grains, seeds and nuts with fresh fruit and yoghurt is a great way to start your day. Plenty of vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and fibre. Go on. Give it a go. Catch you soon. Mark
01.01.2022 Missed you at training last night Charlie! Hope you are feeling better. Best wishes from the Flatout Fitness team at Rex Reserve, North Plympton.
01.01.2022 Hi everyone. Here's a very simple and healthy breakfast I have on a regular basis. Underneath all that wonderful fruit is a muesli I buy from Goodies and Grains at the Adelaide Central Market. It is made up of dried pineapple and paw paw, sesame seeds, raisins, sultanas, sunflower seeds, puffed rice and rice bran flakes. It's gluten free if that's what you need. I don't. I just like the taste. I also add chia seeds and a nut and dried berry mix. Very yummy! And it keeps you satisfied for a long time. Give it a go. Catch you soon. Mark
