24.01.2022 Flat Out is proud to be part of establishing the new Homes not Prisons coalition formed last night to oppose the proposed expansion of the Dame Phyllis Frost women's prison in Melbourne Australia. Women and their families need secure homes, not 106 new cells including 40 in "management units" for segregation and solitary confinement. Here is a private organising group you can join to get on board this campaign. Invite your friends and colleagues. Let's get this campaign unde...rway! #BuildHomesNotPrisons #StopTheExpansionOfDPFCWomensPrison https://www.facebook.com/groups/287052789712561

21.01.2022 A powerful and moving family photo exhibition will be featured in the @c3artspace gallery space on the day. This is an important part of our event as it pays re...spects and acknowledges our loved ones who’ve died in custody and highlights the ongoing fight for justice and resilience from the families that are left behind. We thank all the families for allowing us to share these deeply personal images and thank you for continuing the fight for our loved ones and our mob. This exhibition is being curated by Charandev Singh @charandevsingh , a strong advocate for Aboriginal Deaths in Custody who’s worked closely with our families and also photographed majority of these images. #EndAboriginalDeathsInCustody #StopBlackDeathsInCustody #RCIADIC #BlackLivesMatter

20.01.2022 "In the face of a homelessness crisis, Victorias public housing stock is currently being sold to private developers. The people living in the housing estates are being relocated and have been promised the right to return to the estates once redeveloped. Things Will Be Different captures the effect this displacement has on two families living at the Walker Street Housing Estate in Westgarth - Will a 50 year old housing activist, and Najat a single migrant mother with 4 children. Things Will Be Different shows the richness of the people, communities and support that can exist within public housing. "

18.01.2022 "Many of us had reached out to each other, reflecting on the questions; what can abolition, survival and transformation look like in these Covid-Times? This podcast episode is the result; a reflection on the intersection between healing justice and transformative justice. We began with these questions: what are healing and transformative justice? What is the difference between these two frameworks and where do they align?"

16.01.2022 A home without preconditions You can call it a principle, a service model or a philosophy; the main thing is treating homeless people like everybody else people who have the same rights and see housing as a human right. So the housing first principle means that you give a homeless person a home, a flat, or a rental flat with a contract, without preconditions. You are not required to solve your problems or get sober, for example, to get a permanent home. And then, when you have this home, you can get support to solve your issues. This is a simple basic principle of housing first.

06.01.2022 Our family has been living free from verbal abuse, rages, constant criticism, scare to have friends over, scared to do the wrong thing and never really knowing ...what the wrong thing was. The best moment was the kids played their music and dance and they know it wont evoke anger. Our freedom started 2 months ago. I wont look for work, my job is to respond to my children nightmares, their anxiety, the fear that grips them when they see someone with a similar sillouhette. So why didnt I leave? Simply we had no money, he controlled everything. I choose to take the physical abuse to keep a roof over my childrens head and food on the table. After 2 months I can now say that the shame & blame is his. Please keep the payment. Lets not trap more families into an intolerable world. 03.01.2022 "When a parent is sent to prison a childs right to family life is interfered with by the state. It is arguable that it is diminished rather than removed, as a child can continue to have contact with a parent in prison. This is not always the case, but it is possible for children to visit their parent in prison and / or to speak to them on the phone. ... since 13th March when visits were stopped, children have been denied the right to family life...
