08.01.2022 An extra 10 Medicare-rebated sessions.... how do you access these? Very simply, your GP needs to refer you for a further 10 sessions once you've completed your previous 10 (those previous 10 you probably completed as 6 + 4 referral blocks) & ideally after your therapist has notified your GP in writing of your 10th session completion. These extra 10 sessions are completed as a block of 10 (hurrah!) which means no new referral is needed after 6 sessions once you've already comp...leted 10 sessions. Even more simply put, rebated session blocks now look like 6 + 4 + 10. Jen is happy to answer any questions you may have on these new rebated sessions. Please post questions in the comments section. Btw, please be patient as your GP also learns about the new rules (& item numbers). Medicare rules can be confusing and your GP needs different item numbers for every different type of referral and consultation. We will be sending a summary factsheet to all our GP referrers in the next few weeks to try and minimise confusion.

05.01.2022 Fabulous news in the Federal Budget Medicare rebated sessions for psychology have been extended from 10 to 20 rebated sessions per calendar year, irrespective of location in Australia. This new arrangement is for two years, with review thereafter. We are yet to learn when this can start to be accessed and what the referral criteria is, but what brilliant news for mental health watch this space for updates!

02.01.2022 When you have a "regular" child, you feel reasonably assured that class participation and decent study habits will result in good grades. These kids have close friends. They get invited to participate in social things like dances and weekend gatherings. They make the teams, auditioned organizations and clubs. But when you have a child with certain differences, this is often not the case. Learning may take longer, both academically and socially. Despite their tremendous... efforts, results are often a fraction of their peers and social acceptance is fleeting, setting them up for painful comparisons and bitter frustration. Instead of a fun and fulfilling experience, school can become a breeding ground for depression and anxiety, and assignments a battle ground at home. It is exhausting for parent and child alike. For all the children who struggle every day to succeed in a world that does not recognize their gifts and talents, and for those who are walking beside them, please let this be a gentle reminder to be kind and accepting of ALL people. Recognize that the "playing field" is not always a level surface. Children who learn differently are not weird. They are merely gifted in ways that our society does not value enough. Yet they want what everyone else wants: To be accepted, to have friends, to laugh, love, learn and to be. This post is in honor of all children who are deemed "different". Our world would be far less beautiful without them. (Author unknown, but appreciated)

01.01.2022 Good news about extended telehealth access: "Medicare-subsidised telehealth for general practitioners, nursing, midwifery, allied health and allied mental health services will continue until 31 March 2021"
