18.01.2022 FUN FACT To perform well and produce good crops, cherries like a cold winter and well drained soils. The best time to plant cherries is during winter. Like most fruit trees they like a feed in spring and autumn. Some cultivars require pollination from another cherry variety to set fruit, but self-fertile varieties such as 'Lapins' and 'Starkrimson' can stand alone.

18.01.2022 Love a purple leaf then you cannot go past a trusty Prunus cerasifera 'Nigra' A small, ornamental flowering plum with very dark purple summer foliage carried on dark branches. Single pink flowers in spring make a spectacular display. Often used as a striking small foliage contrast tree for smaller gardens or as a street tree. Grows to approx 5m high x 4m wide will tolerate a hot sites once established and to a variety of site conditions, but prefers moist, well drained fertil...e soils and a position receiving full sun. Bonus is the abundant pink flower clusters in late winter to early spring.

08.01.2022 Carpinus betulus 'fastigiata' A popular ornamental tree that has a fastigate growth habit and green leaves that turn shades of yellow and gold in autumn. The leaves have serrated margins and are strongly veined. This variety can also be peached, hedged or clipped to provide a screening alternative. Tolerates heavy pruning therefore excellent for screening and forming hedges. Is tolerant of air pollution, prefers well drained soil and can tolerate periods of dry.
