18.01.2022 Theres a Total Fire Ban in the greater Sydney region again tomorrow - what you need to know about having a BBQ when theres a Total Fire Ban: 1. No BBQs or pizza ovens outside that use wood, heat beads, charcoal or any other solid fuel... 2. Electric & gas BBQs are OK as long as: The ground within two metres of the BBQ is cleared of all materials which could catch on fire; and a responsible adult in control of the BBQ at all times 3. For gas BBQs you also need: a hose connected to a tap close by (ie an immediate and continuous flow of water) to have the BBQ within 20 metres of your house 4. The penalties: - Breaking the rules could cost you $2,200 on the spot; or - If the matter goes to court a fine of up to $5, 500 and/or up to a year in gaol. For more information about bushfires how they start, fire ratings etc, check out my blog https://fleurbitconlegal.com/blog/bushfires

16.01.2022 Outside the Supreme Court of New South Wales covering Ivan Milats murder trial in 1996 for 9 News Sydney. The notorious backpacker killer died today at the Long Bay Correctional Centre. All murders are horrible but these were particularly confronting because of the number of young, innocent victims and the brutal details of the premeditated and horrific way in which each of them was killed. ... Detective Clive Small led the NSW Police Force team that captured Milat following the discoveries of human remains in the Belanglo State Forest, south of Sydney. Milat was charged and faced trial in the Supreme Court of New South Wales in1996, more than 3 years after the remains of the first victims were found. Over four months, Deputy Senior Crown Prosecutor Mark Tedeschi QC rolled out the Crown's technical and circumstantial case, piece by forensic piece, which led to Milat's convictions for the murders and of kidnapping British backpacker Paul Onions, who managed to escape from the gun-toting serial killer. Milat was sentenced to seven consecutive life sentences for the murders of Deborah Everest, James Gibson, Simone Schmidl, Gabor Neugebauer, Anja Habschied, Caroline Clarke and Joanne Walters, but this did not stop speculation during and after the trial that Milat had not acted alone in carrying out the killings. Milat's death today might provide small comfort for some of the victim's families who were hopeful of a death bed confession. #Milat #ivanmilat #crime #murder Daniel Marzolla
