25.01.2022 R.I.P. our beautiful Kosako. We are very sad to let you know that the lovely Shanbrooke Churra Kosako has passed away. Diane and Ron Condon selected him for his merino style fleece and imported him from Peru. At 22 years of age (at least!), he had long lost his lower front incisors and enjoyed his daily ration of chaff and treats. He still considered all the girls to be "his" and has progeny in the current "drop". Kosako has contributed significantly to our success, ensuring his soft-handling fleece, correct conformation and gentle nature are among the heritable traits he shared. The photos below are from Peru, his early days in Australia and then last week at home. He will be greatly missed.

25.01.2022 It was a fun weekend at AlpacaFest, held in Hamilton, Victoria. The four boys did well, including Reserve Champion Adult Male and Best Light Fawn Male. The sons of Swan Valley Anacheeva and Rosedeane Sayonara were there to show our progress as we are trying to "Master the Art of white and fawn huacaya". We also entered four fleeces, each being awarded a ribbon, including Premier Medium Fawn Fleece - not bad for a breeder of white alpacas ... !! As always, the success of a show is the result of lots of time and effort by the convenor and their league of helpers - sincere thanks to all who made it such a good weekend. (Photos are Fleur de Lys Artisan, Virtuoso, Archimedes and High Noon. Fleece is Fleur de Lys Rosaria.)

25.01.2022 Meet Rosie, after her first session of moving mobs of alpacas ..!! At just 6 months of age, we moved the boys (about 50 full grown males) across 2 rested paddocks (knee deep feed) to the olive grove. With lots of yelling on my part, using a combination of leave it & settle, we moved them without incident to the grove. This will be their idyllic spot until shearing. Well done Rosie.

24.01.2022 Fleur de Lys Peter Pan was awarded Champion Huacaya Fleece at Royal Adelaide Show this weekend

23.01.2022 Rosie to Anacheeva: Please play with me ..?? I love to run - fast ..!!

22.01.2022 Shearing is finished for another year with so many beautiful fleeces . Thank you to James Wheeler from Kobler Alpacas for another wonderful job shearing our herd. @ Fleur de Lys alpacas

22.01.2022 Fleur de Lys Olive Oil, now bottled, labeled & ready to leave the kitchen bench & make the journey to the Australian Alpaca Association National Show in Canberra.

19.01.2022 Clouds about to roll over Feathertop, but its still blue bird skiing today with my boys. They are now faster & more skilled than me - carving up the mountain - what a joy @ Mount Hotham Ski Village, Victoria

17.01.2022 Welcome to the world little guy This is the first of our Sayonara / Anacheeva crosses - with Anacheeva as the sire and Sayonara as the sire of the dam; we are hoping this is a winning combination At only 2 hours old, this little guy is promising, but has more important things to do - the milk bar location has been confirmed and had several visits, and his long legs still have a few more gears to discover and master. Its been a four year plan - now we wait to see how he grows and to meet his siblings

16.01.2022 Nose down, tail up, stud males in their new paddock - yum

15.01.2022 Meet Rosie, newly inducted into the world of herding alpacas. At just 6 months of age, she helped me move the boys (about 50 full grown males) across 2 rested paddocks (with knee deep feed), to the olive grove. With lots of yelling on my part, using a combination of leave it & settle, we moved them without incident to the grove. This will be their idyllic spot until shearing. Well done Rosie - now its time for a snooze ..!!

14.01.2022 Fleurieu Food Olive Awards was a fun time, last night, celebrating the success of the olive growers in the area. With wonderful food, delicious wine and the company of folk passionate about their olive groves, it was a delightful surprise that we were awarded two silver medals for our extra virgin olive oil. As first time competitors in this arena, we still have much to learn about how to optimise yield and flavour, but are greatly encouraged by our results. Of course, we ...would attribute the flavour of our oil to the care bestowed on our grove by the mob of alpacas who tend it for us they crop the grass, coppice the trees and fertilise as well !! Many thanks to Michael Harbison for organising the competition and the awards night, as well as encouraging us to enter our oil in the competition. Thanks also to Peats Soil, for sponsoring a wonderful evening and to Primo Wines for the lovely wine they provided for the occasion ... !!

14.01.2022 Introducing Fleur de Lys Laurent We are thrilled to report that this lovely boy was awarded Champion Intermediate Male at the recent Australian Alpaca Spectacular (aka "the Nationals"!), as well as Reserve Champion White Male. Sired by the impressive Swan Valley Anacheeva, Laurent and the other boys in the Fleur de Lys show team were proud ambassadors for Fleur de Lys, with a collection of ribbons to attest to the breeding strategy we have been using. As always, the success of big events like this is not possible without the effort and support of sponsors, convenors and the host of volunteers who "make it happen" - sincere thanks to all who contributed, from the Fleur de Lys team.

13.01.2022 Rosie has been conducting the chorus of alert calls from the girls - still working on harmony & rhythm

11.01.2022 Fleur de Lys Alpacas is delighted with the quality of the progeny we are breeding from our lovely stud male Swan Valley Anacheeva. Last week at Strathalbyn Show, we entered two sons of Anacheeva, who received: Champion Junior Male; Fleur de Lys Concerto; 8 months Reserve Champion Senior Male; Fleur de Lys Artisan; 41 months Sires progeny (yes, even with the age difference!)... Supreme Champion Fleece; Fleur de Lys Artisan Today at Seymour Show, another of his sons was awarded Champion Intermediate Male; Fleur de Lys Laurent, now owned by Auravale Alpacas and Walkley Fields Alpacas. Each of these boys carries a fine fleece, with high amplitude, high frequency crimp, on a correct frame. Many thanks to the judges Ben Schmaal and Chris Williams, for their complimentary remarks about these boys. Thanks also to the conveners of our rural shows and the many volunteers who make these shows the fun and successful opportunities to showcase our alpacas. See more

11.01.2022 Belatedly packing up the ribbons & trophies for the year. Quite pleased with 6 broad ribbons for halter classes & 6 broad ribbons for fleece. Supreme fleece at Royal Adelaide, Champion Intermediate fleece at Nationals & best White Fleece at Royal Melbourne - with 3 different fleeces. This is the consistency we have been aiming for Sincere thanks to the show convenors & your troops of volunteers who make the shows a possibility

11.01.2022 Playing with the purple pig - it oinks too - what fun

10.01.2022 In the waiting room for my annual alpaca day spa - hair cut, manicure & pedicure

10.01.2022 Alpaca handling 101 for vet students. Its a great way to help our lovely alpacas become used to being handled by others, while giving the students a chance to work with alpacas and become aware of the range of issues we manage every day. Its good fun for everyone

10.01.2022 Weve all heard of emotional support dogs but what about support alpacas?

09.01.2022 Spring time colour and fragrance in our garden - too beautiful @ Fleur de Lys alpacas

08.01.2022 Look what arrived in the post - a most generous and delightful surprise from the lovely Judy Smith Futura. This hand crocheted rug has been lovingly made by Judy Smith Futura, using white fibre from 3 of their best alpacas. I was quite overwhelmed by this thoughtful and generous gift, sent as a token of our friendship and shared dreams and aspirations with wonderful alpaca fibre. Sincere thanks to Greg and Judy Smith Futura.

08.01.2022 R.I.P. our beautiful Archie. Loyal friend & cheeky partner in pony adventures with Luke; you have been much loved and will be greatly missed.

08.01.2022 We are proud to offer for sale the lovely Fleur de Lys Adrianna (IAR: 185320 DOB: 10/02/2014) and her female cria Fleur de Lys Arielle (IAR: 233615 DOB: 26/03/2017). Adrianna is the grand-daughter of one of our foundation girls, Jolimont Dutchess. Dutchess and her progeny have continued to provide us with consistently fine fleece even at 18 years of age, Dutchess had a 23u fleece! Adriannas first fleece: 18.6u, 5.1SD and 120mm... Adriannas second fleece: 19.8u, 4.4SD and 95 mm (Both these fleece results are from a 3-point test) Arielle is sired by Fleur de Lys Royal Acclaim and is the first of his progeny we have offered for sale. Royal Acclaim is arguably the best progeny of the famous Royal Inca, with multiple championship and supreme ribbons to his name. Royal Acclaim has made a significant impact in our breeding program, passing on his fleece style. Together with a high frequency and high amplitude crimp, the distinguishing feature of the fleece is the fine staples that are so reminiscent of merino fleece. Arielle has a well-nourished, bright and lustrous fleece that is comprised of fine staples with crimp. Arielle is Adriannas first cria. While she took a few days to agree to her new role as the milkbar (hence the shaved area of her neck, as Arielle received plasma to ensure her immune function was optimal), she has proven herself to be a wonderful mum and has been re-mated to Wilari Park Galliard (LMD: 16/05/2017). Galliard is himself a multiple championship and supreme ribbon winning alpaca and he is the sire of the National Champion Junior Female Fleur de Lys Ekaterina. This 3-in-1 package would add to the genetic diversity of your breeding program, and contribute very desirable fleece characteristics. $5500.00 Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like more photos, or fleece samples

08.01.2022 New Fleur de Lys logo - working on updating the website too

07.01.2022 What a wonderful week - with 2 special friends, we rode the high country from Glenorchy (near Queenstown, NZ) for 5 days. My partner for the trip was the lovely Snoopy, a 17.1hh Percheron cross. He was a sweet natured & steadfast boy. The scenery was amazing & the horses were all fabulous - a wonderful experience @ Glenorchy, New Zealand

03.01.2022 In 42 degree heat & strong northerly winds, 3 cria decided to arrive today Introducing Fleur de Lys Toasted Cinnamon, Fleur de Lys Heat Wave and Fleur de Lys Summer Haze. Summer Haze arrived with pre-folded ears & has had the magic paper tape applied to re-fold his ears. This is also a celebration to welcome our 500th cria. FDL Heat Wave is the 500th cria we have bred in over 20 years of farming & breeding alpacas. We have continued to pursue excellence in white & fawn huacaya, and these 3 cria are a welcome addition to our herd. Looking forward to milder weather tomorrow ... @ Fleur de Lys alpacas

03.01.2022 Cant quite believe it is time to pack up the ribbons and trophies to make way for Christmas decorations already! The photo is a selection of the broad ribbons for the year, including championships, best of colour for halter and fleece, and sires progeny. We were delighted with our results from the Nationals: we had entered 4 in the halter section and received 2 firsts, a second, Champion Intermediate Male and Reserve Champion White! We also entered 4 in the fleece section, receiving 2 firsts, a second, a third and Champion Dams Progeny. Most of these accolades can be attributed to our very special male Swan Valley Anacheeva.

03.01.2022 It has been a sad household for us today, as our lovely pony Molly passed way last night. She has been a loyal and fun pony; taking the boys from nervous beginners and starting them on their way to the accomplished horse riders they are today. She has also been host to other children, at various inter-school competitions, pony club days and learning about horses here at home. She has also been the faithful companion for my thoroughbred Serena, who has spent the day calling for her friend. RIP dear Molly - thanks for your patience and gentle nature - oh that we could all be more like you - we miss you so much xox

02.01.2022 Late afternoon sunshine finds Luke with his pony Archie and his puppy Rosie - all cheeky & love to have fun

01.01.2022 This beautiful flower, with its countless petals & unfathomable beauty, is so like the gathering of beautiful friends who surprised me with their love and friendship tonight. The bubbles and the laughter flowed as we toasted the blessing of my good health, but for me it was a testament to the bond of friendship and support that we each give and receive. To the special women who have been part of my life of recent years, please accept my heartfelt thanks and admiration - you are amazing and I am a better person because of you. Thanks for the flowers, the surprise and all that the future may have in store for us.
