25.01.2022 **COMPETITION TIME!** WIN A HAND-MADE WOODEN WASTE COLLECTION TRUCK FOR YOUR LITTLE WASTE WARRIOR! We love engaging our future generations in learning about waste management. Teaching them how to sort recycling, or which bin to put their food scraps in, is vital to helping create positive, environmentally friendly lifelong habits. ... AND to give everyone in the house some encouragement, we’ve got these beautiful little hand-made wooden trucks to give away (from the legends at the Encounter Centre Inc., Victor Harbor). (Although we're not too sure how we're going to pry this one off young Harry, who is seen playing with our prize here in the front seat of one of FRWA's trucks.) If you’re a resident OR ratepayer in any of the FRWA collection areas or councils, it’s super-simple to enter: 1 Like this post and follow our page 2 Tell us in 25 words or less how your family is reducing the amount of waste your household sends to landfill 3 And voila! You’ve entered. The winner will be chosen at random on 8 September 2020 and announced on Facebook. **Full terms and conditions can be found in the comments below. 24.01.2022 FOGO those prawn heads, oyster shells and lamb chop bones along with any other leftover food scraps - the green lid bin can take them all. Food Organic and Green Organics (FOGO) is the new buzz word - any organic materials can go in the green lid bin to be composted at Peat's Soils. #australiaday #peatssoils #fleurieu #alexandrinacouncil #victor harbor

24.01.2022 Tip from Tony in the truck: Don’t just dump your used bullets and ammunition. Please take them to your local SAPOL station or hand them in to the staff at our Waste and Recycling Depots. Bullets and ammunition can go off and hurt someone if they are processed as waste. For more information on what to put in Which bin please go to www.whichbin.sa.gov.au Please tag someone who needs to clean out their gun safe.

16.01.2022 Are you an at-home barista? Or do you have a bunch of co-workers who love sharing a pot of tea in the office? Then it's time to think about how you dispose of your coffee grounds and tea bags - because they most certainly CAN go in your green bin, or your home compost bin (just make sure you remove the tea bag label and any staples, beforehand). Even better, is that the nutrients found in coffee grounds and tea leaves can even be a GOOD fertiliser!... Click on the Which Bin? link below for more details. #reducelandfill #whichbin #FOGO #coffee #tea #barista #athomebarista #tealovers

10.01.2022 An amazing find at the Goolwa Waste and Recycling depot - found in the back of an old picture frame is a broad sheet newspaper from The Advertiser, dated Friday, 21 June 1872. Sadly one page has been damaged and cut off. A few local mentions: The Cutter Young Galatea to depart from Victor Harbor. Robin Hood Hotel Strathalbyn ‘taken’ by new owner.... Auction of a ‘large shipment of goods’ ex Goolwa. Would you like to see more of the interesting finds from our depots? 08.01.2022 A Tip from Tony in the Truck: Don’t put your used batteries into your waste or recycling bin! It's likely that the material and the collection truck can catch on fire (just check out what's happening in this video!). A better idea is to drop your used batteries off at your local waste and recycling depot for free. ... We saw this video pop up on the Bin Isolation Outing page - it's a good example of what can happen when you put batteries in your recycling or waste bin. 05.01.2022 Hey dog owners - did you know dog poo can go into your green organics bin!? Friends of the Port Elliot Dog Park ran a successful 12 week trial earlier this year in an effort to divert dog poo away from landfill, and into the green organics bin for composting. Green bins, compostable lime green dog waste bags and signs were installed inside the dog park, with volunteers weighing the bins weekly and checking for contamination. The results were encouraging, with over 200kg... of dog poo going into the green bin (that's a lot of dog poo!). #fleurieuregionalwasteauthority #fleurieupeninsula #greenorganicsbin #dogpark #animalwaste #dogs #petwaste #portelliot Alexandrina Council Port Elliot Town & Foreshore Improvement Association

03.01.2022 Okay, Okay I know it's a touchy subject - BUT in the case of bins, SIZE really does matter. Every day the kerbside collection team and I come across bins of many sizes and lid colours. The problem is that it's almost impossible to know which bin is which (and if you get it wrong, your bin may be left kerbside, not emptied). If your house is on the mainland, follow this guide:... General waste (landfill) is a 140L bin with blue lid Recycling is a 240L bin with a yellow lid Food and green organics is a 240L bin with a green lid New lids ($16 each) and new bins (starting at $62 each) can be purchased from one of FRWA’s waste and recycling depots.
