17.01.2022 Back home today after spending the day yesterday in Albany meeting and talking with people. Lots of new and exciting challenges ahead and I am appreciative of the opportunity to work alongside organisations investing in change and making a difference. It reminded me of the following story which I am sure many have already read... The Boy and the Starfish A man was walking along a deserted beach at sunset. As he walked he could see a young boy in t...he distance, as he drew nearer he noticed that the boy kept bending down, picking something up and throwing it into the water. Time and again he kept hurling things into the ocean. As the man approached even closer, he was able to see that the boy was picking up starfish that had been washed up on the beach and, one at a time he was throwing them back into the water. The man asked the boy what he was doing, the boy replied,"I am throwing these washed up starfish back into the ocean, or else they will die through lack of oxygen. "But", said the man, "You can't possibly save them all, there are thousands on this beach, and this must be happening on hundreds of beaches along the coast. You can't possibly make a difference." The boy looked down, frowning for a moment; then bent down to pick up another starfish, smiling as he threw it back into the sea. He replied, "I made a huge difference to that one!" ~Author Unknown~

10.01.2022 I have been doing some planning with people over the last couple of days and have been told that individuals and families are struggling to understand the new My Way model operating here in the lower south west. I am keen to get others feedback and try and assist wherever possible. If you are thinking about My Way and the supports that might be able to assist you and or your family and are interested in taking greater control over the way in which this is delivered FIShR may be able to help. You can message me here or contact direct on my mobile 0499 523 856.

08.01.2022 Have a great weekend everyone ....

08.01.2022 I was looking through some old files today and found the following quote.... Values are what keeps us focused on why we’re doing what we’re doing and on the ends towards which we are striving. They are the banners that fly as we persist, as we struggle, as we toil. Refer to them to replenish your energy for the vision (Kouzes & Posner 2007) I obviously liked this quote at the time and that is why I kept it but I never knew it could be so true. As I have been working wit...h people over the past couple of weeks I have come to realise the importance of values and their influence on my life. Our values are influenced by our relationships and interactions with the world around us and I have been fortunate enough to have some great mentors in life starting with my parents, a strong school system, employers who believed in my ability, my wife and now my children. In my working life I have spent a lot of time talking about values and in recent times felt that I was drifting away from what was important to me. If you get a chance watch this great clip by Heather Simmons that talks more about values. http://youtu.be/pK-daA6giRA

06.01.2022 It's school holidays here and the kids are out and about playing, making new friends and generally having a fantastic time. As I look out from my office window I notice that many of the neighborhood children have all gathered in our front yard to play a game of football. The kids range in age, a mix of boys and girls all with different abilities in terms of the game yet all I can hear is laughter. Watching them play I notice how quickly they have adapted the game to make sure everyone is included and has a fair go. At what point does this change and how do we work to make sure that the lessons learned in childhood remain with us as we grow?

06.01.2022 About to head off to Esperance and meet with some families and old friends to see what might be possible in this beautiful part of the world. Hopefully the sun will shine, the docker's win and who knows I might even get a chance to do some fishing!!!
