24.01.2022 Saturday marked @grayy_ann’s debut in the @ifbbproleagueoz . There can only be one winner and the line up was honestly one of the best I’ve seen. It lived up to a national pro qualifier. - There are so many positives to come out of a long prep. With Gray, we plan together. She put a lot of faith in me through peak week. We utilised an undulating carb load and adjusted day to day. Saturday morning, she woke up looking better than she had on any individual day in the last 18 mo...nths. - Those that don’t know Gray, she is incredibly stubborn in her beliefs and hangs onto routine for dear life. When I challenge her with something new, it sometimes will take time to implement. This has improved ALOT and she has accepted and trusted more help over time. Gray went against what she knew and out entire trust in me during peak week which is awesome. - Only 24, this was a great stepping stone. If you don’t know Gray, I wouldn’t dare count her out. 24.01.2022 When @wheelss1 started we had the crazy goal of trying to achieve what physical therapists hadn’t in 15 years. - Mark trusted me and my crazy methods to out perform every professional he had ever worked with. - I trusted Mark to believe and just go along with the process. 23.01.2022 Body fat testing/measurement? Nope it’s a series of calculations which make what is at best a prediction. Anyone who tells you different is either uneducated or lying. - Generally we are trying to break down your body into two categories: - 1.Fat... 2. Fat free Mass - This is what we call a 2 compartment test. Problem with comparison? Well fat free mass is exactly that, water, food etc. The variables are definitely difficult to control. - We then move to a 4 compartment model being: - 1. Mineral 2. Fat 3. Water 4. Protein - Now this will be more accurate than a two compartment model however there are still assumptions in the process which are made for the general population to get general accuracy. The problem with averaging out for small variances in general population means you are left with larger variations for individuals. An average of 7% variation across the general population could be reflective of 5 individuals with: - 1. 2% 2. 9% 3. 5% 4. 11% 5. 8% - Equates to a mean average of 7% variance but this with real world application could be far worse. This is even on the best methods like dexa. - Now BIA method which is in most gyms etc using an electrical current through the body. Keep@in mind, current will find the path of least resistance meaning hydration will dictate results as a massive variable. On top of this BIA then uses a custom equation from the data to create the %. 22.01.2022 Struggling with some shoulder impingement/pain or elbow pain with pushing movements? - Drop the weight down and try some floor press. Floor press is an excellent way to adjust your elbow starting position which dictates rotation of the joint. - Simply find a position which:... - 1. Doesn’t cause the pain 2. Keeps the shoulder socket in an open position. - Many have their elbows far too close to 90 degrees creating internal rotation and impingement in the movement. 20.01.2022 Muscle Memory is a real thing. - Most don’t know the details of my health concerns this year, only those who are close to me and have earned my trust. - I have dropped over 4kg across the year. Likely more in muscle because my condition also dropped off. Health was the primary concern.... - Amongst everything else, I’ve been backed into a corner of sorts. I choose to bet on me. Everything is coming back. - Those who chose to either leave or talk at my lowest don’t deserve me at my best. - My best is coming. My mindset to succeed in all aspects of life is burning bright. - There is no one I need in this world outside of my family. Kindness is still a non negotiable. 19.01.2022 Reverse Dieting! - The reverse out of a long prep is the most important time to have support. Sometimes it’s still not enough when people go off the rails but I find that far more prevalent in competitors who follow long term strict meal plans. - @grayy_ann has clearly made this phase a priority. 6 weeks post comp training intensity is back and she returned to maintenance calories as quickly as possible.... - 3kg heavier than stage weight at 0.5kg a week and 2700 calories increasing fat content with a quick return to carbohydrates. - @grayy_ann now gets to sink her teeth into off season in good striking range of stage weight with full function return. - Do you get the right support to achieve this? Christine post comp was struggling a touch with adherence to reverse BUT was definitely in control but fighting cravings and still is to a degree. - She then asked to sit down and set some goals/future show to help her stick to the diet for motivation. While this sounds like a great idea, brutally I said it was setting her up to eventually blow out and that planning shows/bigger goals was detrimental. -... So the future goal? 17.01.2022 Story time. - @christine.macca came to me with a show date. I am very honest and my initial assessment was we are 6-8 weeks too late BUT I’m happy to just see what we can dig out with her amazing attitude. - On top of this, single mother of FIVE, a few grandkids and some issues during prep that would make most quit. Adherence was still at a very good standard. I had an absolute ball watching all the amazing world class athletes and perhaps, being one myself 4 weeks ago there was no way I was going to go, I was sick of my life being on hold for the next comp and I was feeling pretty deflated and not in the right head space. But along came Esther who gave me a right ass whooping thank you gorgeous, yes Esther you are always rightand along came @adam_oettingfp who is damn lifesaver in my eyes. Adam’s no bullshit, super supportive approach to me was just what I needed. No, I wasn’t going to be the biggest or the best up there on the day but I was going to be the best version of me and that was what he had me focus on. Thank you Adam, by now you know how greatful I am but really, THANK YOU!!! Being on stage with all of the incredible women was such blast, I felt like I belonged and I enjoyed every second of it. To come away with a 4th place was something I never thought would happen, I am incredibly proud of myself. We set goals, start working on them and BOOM -the Universe takes a massive proverbial dump on our chest and our plans and goals are thrown upside down. . Has this happened to you? I would be willing to bet it has in one way or another. May have left you saying "Seriously, when will I catch a break". . But these challenges and curve balls are what test us and grow us - makes us show the Universe and OURSELVES if we are really serious. . Let's say you've embarked on a 12 week weightloss program. Then BOOM you get struck down with injury, or illness, or any NUMBER of things that put you off course... TEMPORARILY. . And this is my point here. . It is only temporary. . In these moments we have 2 choices - throw everything out the window and give up on the goals we set.. OR reassess, replan and move our goal posts. . Not many people know this but I was planning on competing next year. I had even started my prep with my Coach. . Anyone who knows me knows I've always struggled with losing the fat around my stomach & with bloating (probs menopause at almost 52 ). . I finally feel like I'm getting somewhere & I'm starting to believe that I could actually achieve my goals! . I'm eating almost 1700 Cals. . He's doubled my carbs from what I was having. (If in the past you told me i could eat over 2000 Cals & not put on weight or be bloated...I'd probs roll my eyes! In fact I questioned Adam (sorry Adam) but totally put my trust in him & I'm SO happy I did!) . My blood sugar control has been incredible! Again...who would've thought I'd be able to control my diabetes eating all the carbs! . I'm eating ALL my favourite foods & timing them however it suits me as long as they fit the macros that have been worked out for me. . I have NOT felt like I'm on a "diet". This is NOT a diet..this is fueling for my goals! . I'm training 5 days a week..giving me 2 full rest days which suits me perfectly. . And with all the food & carbs I'm eating...I have the energy to give it my all in the gym! . I cannot wait to see how I progress from here. 04.01.2022 Nutrition and what we put into our mouths while reaching for that certain goal is so important. Of course meal prep is great and works great to help with this but only if you don’t forget it after leaving home for the day like me This is where it’s easy to become unstuck. I have minimal time as I’m in and out of meetings and work, want something that still has protein and not a thousand calories. My options around me that I could see were; KFC ... Burger’D Sushi Kebab Indian Chinese Soul origin (check the calories on the food tiles... some wraps are over 1000 cals and some salads are over 500 cals for a small) While soul origin do have some low calorie salads it’s not always an option for some. Instead I went to Coles, picked up a fresh turkey (no butter) sandwich, a bag of lettuce and lunch is done for under 260 cals with protein. Think outside the box when you think you’re ‘stuck’ before reaching for an easy option that may not be the right one. Sure I may have looked a little wired prepping my bought turkey sandwich with extra lettuce in the boot of my car but feels better than making the wrong choice that I would have soon regretted ~ Jen
