21.01.2022 November is Diabetes Awareness Month! This Saturday, 14th November marks World Diabetes Day (WDD) which is celebrated globally to raise awareness for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. We believe education is when it comes to diabetes, in order for us to raise awareness, acknowledge and advocate for our diabetes community, we must first understand how diabetes affects those living with the condition.. Here is some insight from our Exercise Physiologists.. ... Try to complete 30 minutes of exercise each day doing something you enjoy like walking, bike riding or gardening. Remember that something is always better than nothing and that being active will not only help you manage your diabetes, it will also reduce your risk of other chronic conditions such as heart disease. Implement resistance training twice a week. This can include exercises like squats or lunges. If you're wanting an extra challenge, adding dumbbells or resistance bands can be a great way to get more out of your training. Exercise plays an essential role by improving insulin sensitivity, reducing visceral fat and improving glucose regulation. There are also many secondary effects from exercise such as improved self-esteem and mental health. 11.01.2022 ACTIVE KIDS ARE HAPPY KIDS The joy of the summer break for children, often comes with a big sigh for parents wondering how to keep their children entertained for the many long weeks ahead. With current research identifying that Australia children spend too much time being sedentary and less time being active we wanted to help provide some fresh ideas in keeping your children active over these school holidays. DID YOU KNOW?... The Australian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines recommend that: Children younger than 2 years of age are not provided with any screen time. Children aged 2-5 years spend no more than 1 hour on screen time (less is better). Children aged 5-17 years spend no more than 2 hours on screen time (less is better). TIPS TO KEEP YOUR CHILD ACTIVE OVER THE HOLIDAYS! Remove tvs, tablets, phones etc from your child's room. Turn the TV off during mealtimes. Be a positive role model and limit your screen time. Encourage active 'family time' e.g. swimming, bike riding, bush walking. Have 'screen free' days. Provide options for non screen time activities e.g. books, board games, cooking, arts and crafts. #flexoutphysiotherapy #activekids #happyholidays #flexoutfamily

02.01.2022 GRATITUDE | Today marks more than 100 years since World War I was ended when an armistice was signed between Germany & the Allies. It took place on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, November 11th, 1918, and this is an opportunity to remember the great sacrifices that were made & to feel gratitude for how fortunate we are here in Australia. Although Remembrance Day is popularly associated with World Wars I and II, it is really a day when we honour veterans of every war that Australians have participated in and remember their sacrifices.
