25.01.2022 Train where the trainers train! We are constantly a provider of choice for many GA & regional RPT operators, simply because our dedicated Instructors have a range of backgrounds from Qantas heavy jets to military helicopters & aren’t simply hour-building. These photos from the week in Cairns, conducting some flight tests in the East Air BE1900 & Skytrans C208...

24.01.2022 Congratulations to Adrian Milisic, who was successful with his CPL flight test with Marcho at the Archerfield base this week. Some challenging weather up in the mountains made him work hard for it, but his recent training in poor weather flying stood him in good stead to complete the task. All the best for the next step - hope to see you in the NT soon!

24.01.2022 Congratulations to Conner Gregory of our Archerfield base, who has now become a Grade One Flight Instructor... This particular qualification acknowledges dedication to the profession of flight training over a protracted period of time & when assessed properly - will challenge not only the knowledge but also the teaching prowess of the evolving professional. In Conner’s case, he has been with Flight Standards for three years, having joined us from the school he originally trained at. We look forward to Conner’s continued service & contribution to our team - which can only benefit the Brisbane flying community.

24.01.2022 ... and that’s a wrap! With one last asymmetric approach into Darwin for Kane Fitzgerald (of Marthakal Yolngu Air) for his IPC & a cheeky local training flight in C172 OZY to complete flight operations for the NT team - we happily consign crazy 2020 to the bin! As we do so, Flight Standards, Kakadu Air & Mistar acknowledge the challenges & spare a thought for our colleagues in this industry who’ve had it tougher than us this year - on this, we are truly grateful for the eff...orts of our staff team right across Australia who have secured our ability to get to this point together! To the valued clients who have stuck by us throughout the year - thanks for your support & we can’t wait to provide you with our best efforts & service in 2021!!

23.01.2022 Some photos from Jason Nastevski’s epic remote Australia hour-building trip this week - from Doomadgee to Ampilatwaja, Alice to Isa, with outback cattle stations thrown in... it’s a vast country out there - but the C210 is just the machine for the job! All that should be great preparation for the CPL test at the end of this week... stay tuned!

22.01.2022 Congratulations to the newest Cessna 441 Conquest pilot in Australia - Julien Wilke! He made Ben's job all the easier having clearly put in plenty of study and preparation. Julien now commences line training with Corsaire. Thank you to Luke, Daniel and the team as always, for your hospitality!

21.01.2022 As much as COVID has been bad for aviation this year, the NT Wet Season is shaping up as a boomer - which will kickstart the local aviation industry greatly as roads get cut & communities become isolated with their only link to the world being by air. The Kakadu floodplains are filling, the waterfalls are flowing & the early morning clouds are low... now is a great time to bust out & make a start to your aviation career in the NT!

18.01.2022 Early morning departure from Darwin for CPL training with Jason Nastevski. Exposure to the Top End’s weather patterns, done safely, with experienced instructors like Cameron Marchant and the rest of the Flight Standards Darwin team is invaluable for the budding professional pilot. If you’re serious about being job-ready, or simply keen to escape the southern states after a challenging year - come join us in the Territory and we will help you get where you want to go...

18.01.2022 Congratulations Captain! Australia’s newest ATPL holder, Dane Pierce of QGAir, managed to successfully taxi the Beech 1900 accurately onto the parking line - thereby qualifying for the highest of pilot licences... Oh, plus a few emergencies & instrument approaches along the FNQ coast on the way!

18.01.2022 We're thrilled to announce our new partnership with CQU! http://www.australianflying.com.au//cqu-teams-up-with-flig

18.01.2022 The year of COVID has grounded many pilots across the country. You might have maintained your legal currency, but are you really up to the task? We can help. Call us today. 1800 4 FLYING... (1800 435 946) See more

15.01.2022 When you consider doing training for a professional qualification (Instrument or Instructor Ratings, CPL, etc), or learn a relevant aircraft type - you have a choice... If you choose to do it with an organisation who knows the commercial industry by working in it & is more than just a social club or a sausage factory, then give us a call!

11.01.2022 Our Brisbane based instructor Pieter, braved a severe blue sky day for a practise ILS into Brisbane INTL. We'll let him (and his student) have this one as he was dodging typhoons in his other job only last month... But if this is what your instrument rating training always looks like, give us a call - you're doing it wrong! Our Instructors have real world experience and will work to expose you to real weather and teach you how to manage (and at times avoid...) it.

11.01.2022 Scott Walters put his new uniform and his skills to the test this morning with his first area solo! Well done Scott!

11.01.2022 It started with flight planning for a short notice charter on the floor of a hangar in 40 degree heat, involved holding for thunderstorms followed by a race to land before getting smashed by the next one moving through - ultimately it ended up with a weary celebratory beverage with some of the Flight Standards Darwin team... congratulations Jason, a long & challenging week ends with the right outcome from the CPL test. Now for the next step - making sure that Kakadu Air cap fits properly. See you at work next week!

08.01.2022 A beautiful day for CPL training on the Gold Coast with student Jo Liao in our latest addition to the fleet - Cessna 172RG VH-HTP.

08.01.2022 With the domestic travel restrictions lifting, now is the time to put yourself ahead with our tailored, industry recognised preparatory course. Our next Perth GA ready course commences on the 30th of November. Get in touch to secure your spot - 1800 4 FLYING.

07.01.2022 Whilst Jason Nastevski’s been out & about this week gaining command hours for his CPL in the Flight Standards C210 around remote NT & Western Qld, Marcho’s been busy training up Steve Drury of Alexandria Station (North Australian Pastoral Co) for his Low Level & Mustering qualifications in his C182. G1000 with synthetic vision may be a bit excessive for chasing cows... but take it how it comes!

07.01.2022 Tom Perkins was back in the Flight Standards classroom last week completing his C310 familiarisation training to facilitate him moving on to the type at Gunbalanya Air Charter. We were thrilled to again be of service to "Gunair" and their new CP Anthony, providing type familiarisation training to their flight crew group. Even better to be working again with former students. Tom completed his CPL with us in 2018 before we put him forward for his first flying job out at Oenpelli. He returned late last year to complete his instrument rating and multi engine class rating and now his perseverance has paid off with the opportunity to "step up" to the C310. Well done Tom!

07.01.2022 It is always a great feeling to see our past students progressing in their careers and it was an absolute pleasure to work with Sam Cooper again this past week. After his stint "out remote" and now back home in Darwin, Arafura Aviation gave Sam the opportunity (and us a call to provide the requisite training) to step up on to the Cessna 310. Now on to line training - Congratulations Sam!... https://www.facebook.com/flightstandards.darwin/

04.01.2022 Our Archerfield based IFR Flight Instructor, Pieter Hawkins, at work with Qantas during his recurrency month. Here is his latest adventure on the A330... The route took us between two typhoons near and north of Manilla. Can sometimes be a race to get as high as possible as fuel burns off. Getting stuck down at lower levels makes it more problematic to avoid large chunks of weather. Its interesting flying in Chinese airspace - everything is quoted in "meters", so clearances need to be converted to feet to make sense - also the Chinese ATC talk Mandarin to local carriers so you really have no idea of what's happening around you! You just do as you're told if it makes sense!!

04.01.2022 Pre-Flight underway... Best time of the day to go flying!

02.01.2022 This week Ben has been putting Jetstream Electrical's newest pilot - James Odgers through his paces with type familiarisation training and a flight review on the PA30 Twin Comanche.
