23.01.2022 At our second night of Flight Without Fear we heard from Jetstar Captain Ross and Flight Crew Manger Kylie about the rigorous application, start up and ongoing training required for their roles. Safety is number one priority and underpins everything they do from check-in to landing. We also heard from Deb, a successful course graduate from our 1st course in 2013. Being able to fly again has meant she now has a job that flies her to Brisbane regularly and she has a girls weekend in Melbourne twice a year. Deb uses an analogy that flying is like being in a bus in the sky and turbulence is just like bumps on the road. She also loves the Flightradar24 app and noise cancelling headphones.

22.01.2022 It was very exciting to start our 2017 course last night. While everyone was a bit uncertain at the start, once they realised just how much they had in common they knew they were in the right place. First we heard from Dr Kris, the course psychologist about why and how some people develop anxiety about flying and most importantly what to do about it. Followed by a calming muscle relaxation exercise that left everyone floating. After a lovely supper we heard from Jetstar C...aptain Sean aka Nanna all about how planes fly, turbulence and airline safety regulations. He even had us making our own paper airplanes to test out the theory of flight! Thanks to Jetstar and Newcastle Airport for making this possible. See more

Past participants have informed and entertained everyone with how they progressed to being fearless flyers. Dr Kris has been assisting everyone to build coping strategies and relaxation t...echniques. Sharon has been keeping everyones taste buds satisfied with a delicious supper each week. 09.01.2022 Registrations for our February course will close on January 17th. Heres some words from our course psychologist, Dr Kris, for anyone thinking of signing up but hasnt yet. Weve been running this course for 6 years and have learnt so much about helping people overcome the barriers to flying. The 1st barrier is signing up for the course. We always have lots of people interested but when it comes to crunch time and formally registering, people can get stuck. Heres some expe...riences from our past participants: A grandmother in her 80s signed up after her husband died when she realized without him to drive her she wouldnt get to see her grandkids in QLD as often A few participants partners or family members have bought them the course as a Christmas present because not flying often impacts the whole family A mother of two determined to take her kids on a much longed for holiday to Fiji A business person sick of turning down interstate work opportunities All of these people completed the course and are now flying. I decided to do this course because simply courses like this are hard to find and it was an opportunity not to miss. Additionally, I wanted to face my fear, even if it was just a baby step, I wanted to challenge it. I benefited from the course, knowing that for some of us that it is a journey and that journey can mean small steps at first, which is the blessing of this course.... Anyone thinking of doing this course should. You have nothing to fear but fear itself and you can manage that fear. 06.01.2022 At week 3 of our Flight Without Fear course we heard from past participants Josh and Amber. Since completing the course last year Josh has taken 16 flights! Many for work and one for his honeymoon to Hawaii :) Amber was given the course as a gift from her family and now loves flying. She found knowledge was power and the more she learnt about the aviation industry the safer she felt. Shes flown lots nationally since the course and now feels ready to start planning an overs...eas trip. Dr Kris taught us about the role that our automatic self talk plays in maintaining anxiety. And now we are practicing how to dispute these negative thoughts with the facts we are learning from aviation experts. We are already way through the course! See more

06.01.2022 Talking about a fear out loud can be hard Let alone in a local newspaper After taking this course I not only was able to fly but also learnt to tackle other fears like speaking out loud about my feelings and to talk to people about what Ive been through. ... I am so passionate about how wonderful this course is for anyone with a fear of flying that I hope my story can help you too Casandra

02.01.2022 Were over way through the course! This week we heard from RAAF Squadron Leader Josslyn about air traffic control and Teraya from the Civil Aviation Authority. Everyone is feeling armed with knowledge to really understand how safe the aviation industry is. Theyre even starting to feel a little bit excited about the graduation flight - a feeling they have never experienced about flying before. One of our participants found this quote which is very appropriate :)

01.01.2022 An amazing opportunity for Flight Without Fear participants last week. We had a behind the scene tour of Newcastle Airport: check-in, security, luggage screening, and the site for the international terminal. Then a very unique access to the JetStar maintenance hanger we walked around two aircrafts undergoing scheduled maintenance and were in awe at the advanced technology, engineering and the size! We then spent the rest of the evening in a stationary JetStar aircraft - they even turned the engines on for us and moved the wing flaps to help us really understand all the sounds and experiences that have previously been a mystery. We cannot thank Newcastle Airport and Jetstar enough for this life changing opportunity. The smiles of everyone leaving after that night could not have been bigger! :)

01.01.2022 Were so proud of all our course participants and are excited about the graduation flights tomorrow. The group will be flying to Brisbane and back with Jetstar, fully supported by their personal mentor and our psychologist, Dr Kris. Everyone has developed their own tool kit of strategies to target anxiety and is ready to take this next step. Theyve learnt so much about the aviation industry, anxiety and themselves over the 6 week course. Looking forward to the beaming smiles as they land back in Newcastle for our graduation celebrations.
