21.01.2022 From 7 Aug 2020, it will be mandatory for children attending an early childhood service to be up-to-date with vaccinations. Parents are required to provide appr...oved immunisation records upon enrolment, and at other specific ages throughout the childs attendance at: childcare centres family day care pre-schools kindergartens early learning centres Early childhood services are also required to keep a copy of all approved immunisation records for the duration a child is enrolled in their service. Retaining immunisation records onsite will enable a faster response time during a vaccine preventable disease outbreak, and help protect vulnerable children. An approved immunisation record is a childs immunisation history statement from the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR): https://bit.ly/31tPvw9 Check the AIR to see your childs records, and talk to your immunisation provider to ensure your child is fully immunised. 20.01.2022 We would like to thank BHP and The Department for Education South Australia for their generous donations and acknowledge their support in the installation of our three new flagpoles. We are now able to proudly fly the Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags outside our Centre. The flags have been instrumental for us to introduce an acknowledgement of country into our daily routine. This support helps to nurture children’s confidence and strengthen their identities, culture and sense of belonging. The flags aim to reinforce connections in both traditional and contemporary cultures signifying a commitment towards community partnerships and reconciliation.

19.01.2022 Week 9 wrap up! This week has been all about colour! We have been reading Elmer the Patchwork Elephant by David McKee which has inspired us to learn about primary colours (red, yellow, blue) which make up all of the secondary colours. The children have been investigating rainbows through science experiments during group times and practicing counting as they watch the rainbows come to life. This week we also trialled breakfast club on Thursday morning which will be happenin...g every Thursday in term 3. Breakfast club encourages the children to further their independence by selecting what they would like and preparing it without adult assistance. Once the children have developed the skills of creating their own breakfast and are familiar with the routine, we will then look forward to inviting parents to join children at breakfast club. This will be a great opportunity to get to know staff and other parents. See more

16.01.2022 Recently the preschool director applied for an art competition through OZ Minerals to have access to funding to create an art piece. Local artist Craig Ellis was approached to help with the design and work with the staff, children and families. We received the great news that we were successfully voted as the winning contesters. The sculpture created many exciting challenges and experiences for the children, staff and families. We worked in the rain, mixed cement, measured water use and used many tools and natural materials. The sculpture created was a magnificent art piece that will be unveiled at the Carrapateena mine entrance. In this video the children are doing their acknowledgement of country around the sculpture before it was moved to its new home at Carrapateena Mine.

11.01.2022 Bugs n Slugs visit our Preschool What an amazing scientific experience the children have had today. They were able to race the snails, look through the magnifying glasses at the scorpion, rainforest snails, slugs, spiders, stick insects and other bugs. We even got to hold the Egyptian beetles which moved mechanically and very quickly over our arms. There were so many different creepy crawlies that allowed the children the ability to have rich, deep conversations about hab...itats, poisonous insects, what they eat and other bugs in our kindy environment. The bug lady taught us about bones and how our spine is made up by vertebraes unlike the bugs we looked at today. The children demonstrated respect for the animals and their environment in their interactions today. We also used our mathematical skills to count all 42 legs on the centipede. Thank you bug lady Kris for sharing your creepy crawler friends with us See more

03.01.2022 This week a table was covered with a large sheet of paper and paint was on hand for the children to use to create a colourful collaborative picture. The extended period of time enabled the children to explore and re explore their marks expressing what was important and relevant to them at that moment. As the children relayed their thoughts and ideas onto the paper, they discovered the many different marks that could be yielded from the varying sized paint brushes and stamps a...vailable. Naturally it didnt take long for them to move to the tactile experience of hand-painting, transferring their handprints onto the paper. They used the thick paint brushes to cover their hands, but also realised the smaller brushes could make more detailed marks. Once Jodie had stamped her hand onto the paper, she counted how many fingers printed Theres only 4, Then she looked at her own hand and counted her fingers correlating that one finger had failed to print. She stamped her hand down again this time making sure that all of her fingers had transferred onto the paper. Kallan used the blue paint brush to make swift marks that were of his Poppa Teddy. As he changed brushes, he became more occupied with guessing the colours he was using, splashing different coloured dots around the image of his Poppa. This year weve studied sunflowers in close detail and Aaleyah continued to perfect the art of drawing flowers. Childrens visual interpretations are collected and studied as components of documentation revealing their growing understanding of a subject. Their artwork can reveal things about their learning process and detailed study of a subject. Charli chose to paint a self-portrait Look I painted a flower and thats me she exclaimed, Im purple. This demonstrates that Charli has a strong sense of identity and is confident with who she is and she is able to express this through art. Painting can be a spontaneous expression of emotion or it may involve a more specific plan of what children envisage. Not matter what, painting provides a context for them to creatively express their feelings, emotions, thoughts and ideas, depending on what is relevant to them at the time. See more
