Our team will celebrate Women's History Month by joining Flinders University Computer Society and Flinders University Society of Engineers - FUSE in hosting the AIAA Women in Engineering Highlight sponsored by the AIAA-Adelaide Professionals on Level One, Room 1 of Flinders at Victoria Square! Come join us at this free event to hear from some amazing engineers from across industry. We are supporting this event as we like to acknowledge everyone...'s stories and feel its an appropriate way to celebrate Women's History Month. Here is a brief highlight on Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova, the first woman in space! We at FAAA cant even really cover it all in just one post and encourage you to read more about her. Valentina is a former cosmonaut, the first woman to have flown in space, also the first to fly on a solo mission. During her flight on the Vostok 6, she orbited earth 48 times during the space mission that took 2 days, 22 hours, and 50 mins. At the time, with that single journey, she logged more flight time than the combined times of all American astronauts who had flown prior to the 16th of June 1963. Photographs taken of the horizon during this flight, along with a flight log she maintained the photos were later used to identify aerosol layers in the atmosphere. On her return to earth she became an international role model and attended public duties, even touring to meet Queen Elizabeth II of England. -------------------------- RIA Novosti archive, image #612748 / Alexander Mokletsov / CC-BY-SA 3.0 / CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0) Want to read more? https://www.theguardian.com//first-woman-in-space-valentin https://www.space.com/21571-valentina-tereshkova.html
