21.01.2022 Pray with us this week

20.01.2022 Hey there! My name is Rose, and I'm in my second year of a Bachelor of Midwifery here at Flinders. Whilst I'm not studying, some of my favourite things include serving at my local church and youth group, playing card games, and being someone with a good view - whether the beach or a hill top! One thing that I love about ES, is the support that is constantly there! - whether from the staff workers, or other students, it's something super special. These people know Jesus, lo...ve Jesus, and point you straight to Jesus. Growth is something that happens for sure through ES. Throughout this COVID season, God's really been trying to drill into me the importance of rest. Because without rest, we cannot actually give fully into the other aspects and areas of our life! Our purpose here on earth is to have a relationship with God, and that is something purely beautiful. So therefore, God first, and everything else will be moulded because of the one who is moulding. God's plan has always been, and will always be far greater than our own; and that is something real comforting! #humansofflinderses

16.01.2022 Hey! My name is Hannah and I am a second year law student involved in ES at Flinders. While I may not look like it, when Im not doing uni, I enjoy doing weight lifting classes at the gym. I think the most important study tip Ive been given is to learn how you learn. I know it sounds so cliché, but there is no magic answer! (Trust me, I wish there was). I know for me, I engage better if the class is in person (which has been hard recently) or at least catching it live rather... than watching a recording later. I also find it helpful to hand write good notes for each topic at the end of each week these notes are full sentences, with proper references, consolidating what was covered in that topic. It is time consuming at the time, but its also a huge time saver come assignments and exams! Experiment, find something that works, it doesnt matter what it is, as long as youre learning. There is no one way to do uni right. I think its also really important to be organised, whatever that looks like for you. It may be a diary, planner, sticky notes or just a mental list. Uni can be really overwhelming with readings, lectures etc. So keeping track of the work that needs to be done in a week can be really useful. I use a diary and a sticky note app on my desktop to keep track of the work needed to be done for each topic weekly. But also remember that its so important to have a balanced life! If you dont, its so easy to burn out and feel awful (trust me). Try to start habits now while uni is just starting up that will set you up well for when it gets stressful later on. (This will also serve you well in a work-life balance later on). You wont always get it perfect but try to look after yourself outside of doing uni/work too: eat well, sleep, spend time with God, find a form of exercise you enjoy, make time for church, friends, and family etc., and set aside time for rest.

15.01.2022 What is it really like to be a missionary? What do you do if a llama eats your homework? Check out the review of the book 'For the Joy', which will answer at least one of these questions

12.01.2022 How do you deal with emotions? Emotions are something we all experience, but they can be pretty complex & confusing at times. Some of us will just try to ignore our emotions, others will feel overwhelmed & controlled by them. Check out this book review by Lauren H of the book 'Untangling Emotions'

10.01.2022 We spent this week in small groups looking at the story of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 4 and 5. And the church is still growing It's not too late to join a Small Group and look into Acts, send us a message if you'd like more details!

10.01.2022 Does God really choose some people to go to heaven, and others to go to hell? Is it fair that someone who has had no opportunity to hear the Gospel wont be saved? Some Christians think theres still a place for Israel in Gods plan. Is there? Join us for the last Bible Talk before the mid-semester break! Face to face in Humanities 133 or on Facebook Live! Hope to see you there!

10.01.2022 What does Easter mean? Hear from some ES students

10.01.2022 Maybe when you hear 'be true to yourself' you cringe a little. Matt Fuller's book, 'Be True to Yourself: Why it doesn't mean what you think it does (and how that can make you happy)' tackles our world's obsession with identity and self and looks at a Christian perspective on this. 04.01.2022 Where are our Flinders ES graduates now, and what do they remember about ES? Meet Jenn! Hey, I'm Jenn, a Flinders ES grad I studied Speech Pathology at Flinders from 2015-2018, and now I'm working as a speech pathologist with disability clients from birth-65 for almost 2 years in the country! It's very broad, but every day is different and I have learned so much I love the relaxed lifestyle generally of the outback, but in my free time I love a good TV series like grey's ...anatomy or Parks and Rec, or you might find me playing board games with friends! I have often found myself chatting with other graduates of ES about the value of the time we are able to spend being trained in key elements of the Christian life, like how to read the Bible ourselves and with others the importance of serving and fellowship as well as being intentional about sharing Christ in our relationships. God is so powerful, he made known to me my identity in Him as I came to faith in my second year. I saw God at work in the amazing people from ES he placed in my life to share the Gospel with me, and how he grew me so much in my time at Uni! #humansofflinderses #wherearetheynow
