24.01.2022 Interclub 2B & 10000m Championships A Club record, State Champions and some impressive National Qualifying runs on a great day for the club. Isobel Batt-Doyle smashed the 10000m Club Record by 3 minutes to record an impressive 32.13.04. Jacob Cocks ran solo to take the men’s 10000m gold (30.36.91).... In the afternoon Asha Lawson recorded another U16 3000m NQ time winning the women’s 3000m. Nicholas Schroder running his first 400mH beat his older competitors to record a U18 NQ. Some of this week’s sprint results were affected by the strong tailwind in some heat. More importantly it's great to see so many young athletes competing for the club. Most were getting some preparation for this week's All-Schools Championships. 20.01.2022 THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS AND SPONSORS YESTERDAY Another great weekend at Mile End and Flinders University over the weekend. On the track there were some great performances. More of that in later posts. On Sunday we held the SAAL Toby Schreier Flinders Meet at Flinders University. It was great to have so much support from those who helped set-up and pack-up. Thank you to everyone who helped. Well done to all the SAAL officials and volunteers, competitors and spectators wh...o came along. Looking forward to next year already. Special thanks go to five people whose contribution to the club, and especially all day on Sunday, helped us hold a successful meet. Helen Allnutt, Sam Scott and Christine Clohesy for managing the catering and making sure the venue was clean before we started and when we left. A great effort and much appreciated. Richard McMahon for the BBQ. Ross Hill-Brown for arranging to sell copies of the book "The Eighteen Point Five" in which he has chapter "The Obstacle Course" (with $10 going to MND) and promoting a collection for MND in lieu of our usual raffle many thanks to those who donated. Our sponsors have been great again this year so I’d like to thank everyone for their support. Since these businesses are supporting our club, I would urge members to return their support if you are thinking of buying a car, want to get solar installed, fencing products, linen, etc. In particular: Jason McKenzie (Southside Suzuki) has been our major sponsor for a number of years and we thank him for his generous support. Finn Peacock is founder and head honcho of Solar Quotes a company that helps you get the right solar for your needs. Blackchrome are our supplier of our club gear. 20.01.2022 BATT-DOYLE ANOTHER CLUB RECORD & ROSS BIG BREAKTHROUGH In windy conditions on Saturday night, Isobel Batt-Doyle running her first 5000m for the club broke clear with Rose Davies from Newcastle to get away from her fellow South Australians. In the end Isobel managed to break our club record held by Tara Palm, who was in this race. In the men’s race, Jacob Cocks wasn’t as pleased but ran one of his best times, while Dylan Bosch, Bailey Dyer and James Kay all were rewarded with ...Continue reading

18.01.2022 U16 Sprinters in fine form On a day that had a blend of individual and relay events, our young U16s were impressive. Rose Jillard and Sophie Cheshire teamed up to take out the 2x100m, with Bella Rigby and Emily Cox second fastest team. Nicholas Schroder and Luke Rigby were 2nd in their 2x100m. In the mixed 1000m relay Bella Rigby, Luke Rigby, Emily Cox and Nicholas Schroder were a close second. Not far behind were Jack Brown, Sophie Cheshire, Harry Smith and Grace Deacon. The... Hobbs family ensured we had teams in both open men's and women's 2x100m. All got PBs in the 200m so it was a good day for them. A highlight was the second heat of the U16 2x100m when the team of Daniel Hobbs and Harry Smith held on to beat 5 Saints teams. In the 200m everyone, recorded a PB! If you hang around athletics for long enough, you’ll see something you haven’t seen. I don’t usually report DNFs, but the sight of Lachlan Scott stopping at the 350m mark while leading the 1500m was strange indeed. However, it soon became clear that he had swallowed and was stung in the throat by a bee, and the situation was initially quite alarming. Luckily Lachlan was ok, and eventually given the all-clear by the medicos. 18.01.2022 Cocks Brothers 1-2 at Adelaide Half-Marathon Following a successful winter premiership season Riley and Jacob Cocks went 1-2 in the Adelaide Festival Half-Marathon. Both started at the front-line grid for the ‘trickle’ start. Was Riley Jacob’s pacer or not? Hard to say? In the end it was Riley taking out the win in 66.26, a course that he described as a nasty little course but good mental test. Jacob wasn’t far behind in 67.20. Flinders AC had a great time supporting SARRC... at drink station 7, just outside the Adelaide Oval. To get this event up and running, given the COVID restrictions in place was a fantastic achievement. Very much appreciated by everyone involved. Leigh Thompson (3.11.33) and Jonathan Camac (3.15.45) completed their first marathons and will benefit from the experience. Special mention again to Colin Ambrose (1.18.00) in the half-marathon, breaking another SAMA 50-54 record. Apologies, we don’t have photos of everyone who competed. All the results: Marathon 42.2k Leigh Thompson 31st 3.11.33 Jonathan Camac 34th 3.15.45 Atsushi Ogai 112th 3.49.36 Half-marathon 21.1k Riley Cocks 1st 66.26 Jacob Cocks 2nd 67.20 Colin Ambrose 7th 78.00 Women: 10k Stephanie Howard 44th 47.25 5k Alicia Stephens 7th 22.59 Rachel Hobbs 13th 23.52 Isabel Hobbs 19th 25.37.

The Flinders Run Club has been running for a number of months now, with Coach Jim Kay assisted by club members Robbie Killmier, Paul Sutcliffe and Chantel Peacock. Initially started to compliment the annual City-Bay training we have been able to expand to provide a Sunday morning training time for beginners, intermediate and advanced recreational runners. 13.01.2022 Awards: Best Newcomer Isobel Batt-Doyle This award is In memory of Alan Mitchell who helped form FAAC in 1979 and is for the best performed athlete (male or female) in their first season with the club. The award of Best Newcomer is our most longstanding award having been presented every year since the clubs inception well if we knew who won the first award and whether we had a discontinuity or are missing an award in 2014. Our increase in membership meant we had the la...rgest number of ‘newcomers’ that we have ever had, since the ‘originals’. 12.01.2022 Toby Schreier (1939-2014) For many of us who have been involved with the club for a long time today is a special day. Sadly it is the anniversary of the passing of Flinders Club Legend, founder, Life Member, and coach to hundreds of athletes Toby Schreier. For those who train at Flinders University we have a regular reminder as we can sit in his memorial bench and watch as athletes train. Will probably see some of you today at the Run Club.... Was looking trough some old diaries last night. My first training session at Flinders was 15th October 1979. 5x400m downhill from the bus stop and finishing in front of the pavilion, pretty much where Toby's bench is. I was off 18 secs (yes Toby used handicap system by time in the early days). Two were at half-pace and the others 52, 56, 56 - these were adjusted times so you can tell that the distance wasn't 400m (To be fair to Toby it might just be what I called them). One of my last sessions before moving to Canberra was on Boxing Day 26th December 1986. The two laps and a bit of the full Flinders ovals (1450m) warm-up and warm-down took my tally to 3607 (stats nerd) at the time. The sessions was 6 by (5x200m, on 1') with 2'R between the sets. Dairy says all were under 33", last 5 < 31" and the last 28". Today is a day for remembering the life of someone who had an impact on so many. Any stories of first sessions, iconic sessions or just a peek into your relationship with Toby. Feel free to share. Thinking of Helen, Darren of Leigh. Paul Sutcliffe

11.01.2022 Awards: Best performed SAAL Athlete Sam Laucirica After the Christmas break back to some more awards. Most fitting on a Bay Sheffield Day we have the best SAAL athlete of 2019-20. This award is based on points scored at all SAAL meets with 3 points for a win, 2 points for a second and I point for a third (e.g. podium finishes). Double points are awarded for the Bay Sheffield Carnival.... This award has changed over the years, with male and female winners awarded up until 2016. Still some work to do tidying up the history. Any help much appreciated. The award for season 2019-20 was very close with Sam Laucirica (13) proving good early season form is important, beating Xavier Poole (12) and Nicholas Dallimore (10). 2020 Sam Laucirica 2019 Lachlan Hennig 2018 Tom Lancaster 2017 Teagan Kustermann 2016 - Tom Lancaster 2015 Robert Killmier, no Female awarded 2014 Jordan Harvey, Nadia DeBellis 2013 Shane Thiele, Courtney Ryder 2012 ? 2011 Robert Killmier, Melissa Lloyd 2010 Nick Beins, Emily Burke .. got to check further history

Jacob ran national qualifiers in three events - 50000m, 10000m & 3000mST. Competed at the National 10000m Championships (29.43.79) and ran an 8.56.44 steeple running in New Zealand. 2020 Jacob Cocks 2019 Aidan Ross 2018 Czenya Cavouras 2017 Aidan Ross 2016 Jacob Cocks 2015 Jordan Hewitt 2014 Jordan Hewitt 2013 Matthew Ferber 2012 ? 2011 Jacob Cocks

07.01.2022 Life Membership Jordan Harvey At last night’s AGM Flinders AC awarded its 11th Life Membership to Jordan Harvey. It was fitting that fellow Life Member Robbie Killmier paid tribute to Jordan: Jordan Harvey first became a member of the Flinders Athletic Club in 2000 after joining the Toby Schreier group in 1999. In his 20 years at the club, Jordan, has competed, and still competes in track, cross country and SAAL events.... Off the field Jordan sat on the Flinders AC committee for a number of years, taking on roles of ASA Representative, Recorder and Secretary. He has also volunteered on numerous occasions to help out where needed. In February 2018 Jordan was appointed Club Head Coach (Middle, Long Distance & Cross-country). A role that he has taken on enthusiastically and has built a strong team environment. He emphasizes working together which I think comes from his original training group he grew up with in the early 2000’s. Jordan has been a mate, training partner and mentor to not just me, but to many of our long time athletes in the club. When we were training in the early days, I referred to Jordan as the bullock who would take the lead and do the hard work at the front of reps when the going got tough. This on many occasions sacrificed his session in order to get me and others through. This shows his character, which he continues to apply to this day in sessions with his new crop of athletes. On the running track Jordan has represented Flinders at both a state and national level, along with winning multiple sashes in the SAAL including the Bays Sheffield. He made the majority of state cross country team throughout high school years and was also competitive on the track. I think some of his personal highlights are winning his maiden sash at the Bay Sheffield after more than 10 attempts, representing his state, and he loves a club relay. Jordan continues both to train and compete, especially now he very much considers himself a veteran. Jordan still feels he has got plenty to prove as an athlete but he even more so wants to improve many others as a coach. I feel Jordan is very deserving of a Flinders AC life membership for his contribution to the club, both on and off the track. He is a great mate, club man and now transitioning into a great coach.

06.01.2022 Big numbers out at Open Day A fantastic start to the summer season with 29 athletes competing at the Open Day. Ten days into the new season and our ASA membership is currently at 55. Photo of the day is of Ross Hill-Brown showing support for the demonstration event of Race Running.... There were plenty of PBs despite the sprinters having to run into a headwind. James Kay won the 5000m, Sophie Cheshire was impressive in the first heat of the sprints and Jordan Leane and Jonathan George were side by side at the finish of their 800m. 05.01.2022 Flinders AGM 2020 AGM’s can be pretty boring affairs, but there were a couple of presentations that made the night. It seems such a long time ago that South Australia was dealing with the bushfires. The Flinders Committee agreed to make a donation which helped an athletics club or event. So, it was great pleasure that we were able to present Nathan Godfrey from the Kangaroo Island Marathon with a timing clock. The KI marathon for 2020 was cancelled with the next event on the ...1st May 2021. The other was the awarding of Life Membership to Jordan Harvey (reported previously). We also elected a new committee for the ‘short’ period up until or next AGM in April/May 2021. President: Paul Sutcliffe Vice-president: Ross Hill-Brown Treasurer: Samantha Scott Secretary: Madelene McNeil (agreed post meeting). Registrar/Statistician: Paul Sutcliffe Athletic SA Rep(s): Ross Hill-Brown Flinders University Rep(s): Bailey Dyer & Connor McIvor General Committee: Chris Clohesy, Helen Allnutt, Richard McMahon, Robert Killmier, Colin Ambrose, James Kay, Tony Hobbs, Rachel Hobbs Looking forward to another great year.
