24.01.2022 Did you know? During ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection), sperm need to be slowed down in special solutions and immobilised before they can be injected into an egg. Striking the tail of the sperm with the injection needle to stop it moving usually does the trick!

24.01.2022 Just a reminder that until 23rd December you still need to wear a mask when visiting the clinic, and unfortunately can't bring children in with you until then either.

23.01.2022 For those of you undergoing IVF treatment at the moment - we hear you! #bloatedbelly #bloated #ivf #ivfjourney #ivfsuccess #ttc #ttccommunity #ttcjourney #flindersfertility

22.01.2022 Did you know? Sperm quality is better in men who wear kilts according to a Scottish Medical Journal! This might make more sense than you think, as tight underpants have been shown to increase the temperature around the testes. Optimal sperm production happens at a temperature that is slightly cooler than body temperature.

19.01.2022 We are relieved to see that restrictions are being reduced as of Sunday! However, we are planning on maintaining our current precautions until the immediate cluster has been dealt with. This includes the following: - Please do not attend the clinic if you have been asked to self-isolate, have any COVID-19 symptoms (eg fever, respiratory symptoms) or have attended any of these locations at the times indicated: https://hubs.la/H0BhbkJ0 - You will still need to complete a temper...ature check and declaration form on arrival at the clinic, and will need to wear a mask. - Partners and children are still not be able to attend on-site appointments - We will continue to offer telehealth services for patients who have consultations with our doctors We will continue to keep you all updated as things progress! Have a lovely weekend from the Flinders Fertility Team xx

18.01.2022 Many of you will have heard the SA Government announcement today. We are trying to keep up with developments and will update you as soon as we have more news. At the moment, our understanding is that patients undertaking any treatment will be able to continue their cycles and we will continue with consultations by telephone and videoconference. Unfortunately, partners and children are unable to attend the clinic for bloods, scans and embryo transfer appointments. If you hav...e any questions, please feel free to message us or email us on [email protected]. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can. Thanks for your patience during this difficult time. Stay safe everyone! With love, the Flinders Fertility team xx

16.01.2022 Did you know that similar to women, men’s fertility starts to decline after the age of 35? The cause is not ageing per se, but oxidative stress which occurs with long term poor diets, exposure to day to day chemicals, and lifestyle factors. However, it is possible to reverse male infertility in many cases by improving sperm quality. Click on the link below to check out our website article on the importance of sperm quality for conception and carrying to term. It also has recommendations for diet, supplements, and lifestyle tips to reverse the effects of oxidative stress. https://hubs.la/H0Bq_1t0

14.01.2022 This week’s Bub of the Week is the happy Harper Rose! Harper is 2 and a half years old, and we hear that she likes swimming and painting . We also hear that Harper loves her food - especially hash browns! No doubt all of us are in the same boat, Harper, so enjoy every bite!

12.01.2022 Look what we saw last night at the Glenelg Marina

11.01.2022 Did you know? Egg and embryo freezing occurs on straws using tiny droplets of solutions known as cryoprotectants. These solutions help avoid the development of ice crystals so they can survive the freezing and thawing process. And while there are certain legislations that clinics follow with regards to keeping eggs/embryos in storage (check out our article for more information) they can technically stay frozen like this forever! https://news.flindersfertility.com.au/decisions-about-remai

11.01.2022 We confirm that the clinic and day surgery will remain open throughout the lockdown period and we are able to continue to provide essential services such as bloods and scans. However, given the uncertainty around the spread of this outbreak, please keep monitoring our page for updates. Please do not attend the clinic if you have been asked to self-isolate, have any COVID-19 symptoms (eg fever, respiratory symptoms) or have attended any of these locations at the times indicate...d: https://hubs.la/H0Bc8bq0 You will need to complete a temperature check and declaration form on arrival at the clinic, and will need to wear a mask. If you require confirmation that you are undertaking treatment with us in order to travel to an appointment, please contact our team on: [email protected]. As we are working with reduced team numbers, please use the email enquiry address as your primary contact where possible. We will call you back as soon as we are able. We can continue to offer telehealth services for patients who have consultations with our doctors, but in person appointments are prohibited except in emergency or for the purpose of ongoing treatment (eg, embryo transfers). If you wish to postpone treatment during this uncertain time, please let us know. Thanks for bearing with us. Stay safe everyone and together we’ll beat this! With love from the Flinders Fertility Team xx

10.01.2022 Did you know? It is estimated that in the last 40 years, more than eight million babies have been born through IVF globally - a significant contribution to the population! In Australia, almost 1 in 20 babies are born through IVF treatment, equating to approximately one in every classroom.

10.01.2022 Our Bub of the Week this week is the lovely Lori, who will soon be 3. Her favourite things are being mummy to her dolls, drawing and colouring-in, splashing in the water, and of course, going to the playpark! Doesn't she have the best smile ever?!

06.01.2022 The mighty Max is our Bub of the Week this week! This young man is 5 and a half years old and he is all about play. This favourite things are playing with Hot Wheels cars, riding his bike and scooter as well as being outdoors. Fun! Maybe we could all take a page out of Max’s book and get some playtime back into our lives (from time to time!)?

05.01.2022 We are delighted to say that we will be returning to face to face consulting next week, HOWEVER, as we need to maintain 4sqm p/p under current COVID restrictions, only ONE patient can attend consultations. We are happy to Zoom or phone your partner during the consultation. Please do not bring children into clinic during this period of heightened risk. If you are unable to find a babysitter, please contact our nurses to discuss alternative arrangements for blood tests and othe...r appointments. Patients will be required to upload the QR code upon arrival from Tuesday 1st Dec, or complete a registration form if you are unable to do so. We will continue to check temperatures on arrival and you will be required to wear a mask (we have masks available on reception if you need one). Please do not attend the clinic if you have been asked to self-isolate, or have visited any of these locations during the times mentioned: https://hubs.la/H0BC_dl0 Stay safe everyone we look forward to seeing you next week! x

04.01.2022 Due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak, you will now be asked to fill out a questionnaire and wear a mask when attending the clinic. Please bring your own mask and pen where possible. Unfortunately, partners and children will no longer be able to attend the clinic for appointments such as scans, bloods and embryo transfers. We are also moving to telephone consults for all other appointments in order to minimise face-to-face contact. This will continue for the foreseeable futur...e until we receive further information from SA health. We will continue to provide updates as things progress. For more information regarding COVID-19, please call the Coronavirus Health Line 1800 020 080 or the Healthdirect Hotline 1800 022 222. Thank you for your support during this time and please stay safe.

04.01.2022 Nearly one in six couples experience infertility, and many people especially women choose not to share their struggles out of concern that doing so will negatively impact their career. Lengthy fertility treatments can have serious emotional, physical, and financial impacts on a woman and her partner, and going through it in silence can often prevent women from receiving support from their employers throughout the process. An interesting article recently written by Harvar...d Business Review discusses some of the actions that leaders can take to understand the impact of fertility treatment on daily life, and how to foster an environment of support and inclusion in order to attract and retain experienced and high-potential employees. Click on the following link to read the full story: https://hubs.la/H0Bclx80 If you would like to share your experience or story, feel free to DM us. We would love to hear about it and perhaps even share with others anonymously (with your permission of course!). Sharing your experience can help others starting treatment feel less alone and more supported. Image credit: @fertility_arty

03.01.2022 Brody is our Bub of the Week this week! He is almost 21 months old and loves playing outside and going to the playground, climbing, jumping, and singing & dancing with the Wiggles! And this super smiley little man clearly loves to have his photo taken! Who wouldn’t with a super cute face like that?!

03.01.2022 Did you know you can transport your eggs and embryos from other clinics? Whether you are moving from interstate or overseas, or have decided you just wish to move clinics, it’s a relatively easy process to move your eggs or embryos. All that is required is consent to initiate the transport process and there is a small one-off cost to pay for the courier. We help guide you through these steps and keep you up to date throughout the process. Specialised transport containers call...ed ‘dry shippers’ are used to transport eggs and embryos. These use liquid nitrogen to keep the samples safely frozen at very low temperatures. The shipper can keep the samples frozen for weeks and the temperature of the shipper is monitored throughout the transport process. The length of time for the actual transport process varies. Local transport typically occurs in 1 day, interstate takes 2-3 days and international depends on the destination, but normally up to a week, depending on availability of flights, travel restrictions, and customs clearances. If you are thinking of changing clinics and want to find out more, just call us, or email us at [email protected].

01.01.2022 It takes two this week for our Bub of the Week! We have 5 year old twins Amalia and Alexander who are both very social and love to chat - we hear that they are super excited to start school next year! Whilst they are twins, we are told that they are both still very unique and different in so many ways. Alex is a footy fan and loves to be outside playing while Amalia is a real artist and loves to draw and play with Play-Doh. So very sweet
