Upcoming events include the Show (sorry we are booked out) on 18 October, the Flinders Island Quick Shear on 7 December and the Flinders Island Festival January 17/18 and 19. 21.01.2022 MEET THE ARTIST The second artist we have the pleasure of introducing and hosting within the exhibition was CHOSEN by Aunty maikutena Vicki-Laine Green. Lillia...n Wheatley is a proud Trawawoolay, saltwater woman from lutruwita/Tasmania, specifically a small group of islands to the North East of Tasmania; the Furneaux Islands. Lillian is strongly influenced by the pristine environment in which she grew up in utilising the natural materials and resources. This is strongly embedded in her self-taught multi-media practice, as an artist she continues to honour the thriving living ancient old practices. Saltwater runs through her veins and this reflects deeply within her creations. All of Lillian’s works are uniquely Tasmanian. Lillian’s creations have been exhibited in art galleries throughout Victoria, at the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair, MONA and most recently during Melbourne fashion week. You can view these beautiful pieces in person at the LongHouse Hobart [6 Evans Street] between 11am - 3pm, Thursday to Sunday until 28 August OR online via the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair.

18.01.2022 Mount Strzelecki track upgrade The Mt Strzelecki Walking track, on Flinders Islands’ Mt Strzelecki National Park, has received a much needed upgrade. Two secti...ons of the Mt Strzelecki track were upgraded. The first section involved the removal of 15 metres of decaying steps, and the construction of new steps extending for an additional 9 metres. The second section of track work involved utilising local rock on approximately 50 metres of eroded track to assist in stabilisation, and creating both stone steps and drainage grips to assist with natural water drainage to prevent future track erosion.

14.01.2022 Meet the Anderson family... Among the fields of shiny black cattle grazing Tasmania’s Flinders Island, Scott and Anna Anderson’s white faced Poll Herefords are ...a glaring anomaly. https://www.rabobank.com.au/about-raboba//anderson-family/ In recent years the picturesque, and highly productive island has become renowned for running Black Angus cattle, but Scott maintains full confidence in his Poll Herefords and he has the figures to prove it. #Farming #Agriculture #Agribusiness #Hereford #PollHerefords #FlindersIsland #Tasmania #Rabobank #Beef

07.01.2022 FURNEAUX ISLANDS FESTIVAL COMMUNITY GRANTS Council is inviting interested Community Groups and local businesses who would like to host an event during January t...o apply for a Furneaux Islands Festival Community Grant. There is a pool of $3,000 in total funding available. As these are small grants (with a maximum request of up to $500) we encourage the money to be used for activities such as bus hire to assist with transportation to and from an event, Hall hire facilities, equipment hire, printing and marketing materials. This year we will be producing a ‘Furneaux Islands Festival Event Calendar’ promoting a range of ‘not to be missed’ summer events throughout the entire month of January, and are inviting Community Groups and local businesses to hold an event or activity that offers our visitors the opportunity to be involved in community activities and ‘live like a local’ for the month. The calendar will highlight the best of what our islands have to offer from the North to the South. The 26th January will be kept free on the Event Calendar as a 'Day of Reflection' and for those to spend as they wish. So, if you are planning an event and would like to apply for a Festival Community Grant to support it or have an event you’d like to include on the Festival Calendar that highlights our history, music, culture and community spirit please contact Sammi Gowthorp on [email protected] or 6359 5001 by 5pm, 2 December 2019.
