19.01.2022 Earlier this month the One & All turned 34 years old! In celebrating the occasion, the Friends of the One And All Sailing Ship Inc reflected on the community this beautiful tallship creates, bringing people from all walks of life together, including passengers, volunteers, crew, the board, supporters and sponsors (of which we are proud to be one). We're proud to be a supporter of the One & All and wish her fair winds around our beautiful South Australian coastline.

16.01.2022 Thursday Throwback! Earlier this month, we celebrated the completion of the Thevenard Wharf restoration. The wharf was actually opened way back in June of 1919, with the title of being the only reinforced concrete jetty in the world! Take a look at these amazing historical records from the time of the original opening, courtesy of the State Library of South Australia, plus a pic taken since the latest restoration [ @zakgurney1989 via IG ].

16.01.2022 Bye JUB Departing our Thevenard port this week was the very important jack-up barge (aka "JUB") used during our wharf rebuild project. This picture shows the JUB, owned by Maritime Constructions Pty Ltd, being dismantled, ready to be lifted onto the BBC Greenland, a heavy lift ship commissioned to transport it up to Dampier in Western Australia for its next project. ... 15.01.2022 Make sure to look up this evening, as a 'pink supermoon' graces the sky. According to NASA: This full Moon is the first of two supermoons for 2021. The term supermoon was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979 and refers to either a new or full Moon that occurs when the Moon is within 90% of perigee, its closest approach to Earth. Since we can’t see a new Moon (except when it passes in front of the Sun), what has caught the public’s attention in recent decades are fu...ll supermoons, as these are the biggest and brightest full Moons for the year. - Beautiful photo from last night, Monday 26.4.21, by @kiah84 overlooking our Port Lincoln wharf.

15.01.2022 A rotating tippler in action! We're super proud to have pioneered the transport of bulk minerals in containers in Australia. The process starts when mineral products are loaded into custom-built containers at the mine before making the journey by road or rail to port. Every container is fitted with a specially-designed lockable lid, preventing product from escaping into the atmosphere as dust.... Once in port, the bulk minerals remain in containers until ready for export. We then use our in-house harbour cranes to lift containers to the ship's hold and rotate them with a rotating container tippler, which is fitted to the crane. What an impressive logistics solution!

14.01.2022 We're excited to announce the next phase of the Parnkalla Trail upgrade project is soon to start! The $1.2M upgrade is delivering vital improvements to the Port Lincoln section of the trail, making it more vibrant and accessible for users and visitors. Our CEO, Stewart Lammin, commented on the project:... We are delighted to have been able to support the upgrade of the Parnkalla Trail, specifically around Port Lincoln. The upgrade will enable the public to continue experiencing this part of the Eyre Peninsula safely. Flinders Port Holdings plays an important role in our state’s coastal communities and the work being undertaken on this project is an example of how our engagement often goes beyond the port. 13.01.2022 51 years ago a tragic accident during the construction of the jetty at Port Giles claimed the lives of John James McGuire and Francis (Frank) Joseph McGloin. This month we were able to install a commemorative plaque marking the spot where the accident took place. John James McGuire's nephew, Jim McGuire, led the placement of the plaque and was joined by Flinders Ports representative Terry Nelhams, MST Port Leader for Port Giles, and by Doug Wilkin. Flinders Ports is proud to ...have helped facilitate the event, which served as a tribute to both men and as a reminder to the risks and dangers all port workers face working on and around the water. Our thoughts are with the families of John and Frank who played a key role in building the ports infrastructure, which continues to serve South Australia today.

13.01.2022 This week we welcomed the Hon Stephen Patterson, Minister for Trade and Investment, to Port Bonython in the Upper Spencer Gulf. The port is an oil and gas export hub for Santos energy and the company's Port Bonython Site Superintendent, Derek Seret, joined our General Manager, Carl Kavina to show Minister Patterson around the Port. Looks like it was a particularly nice day for it!

12.01.2022 Port Adelaide was founded 175 years ago, making it one of South Australia’s earliest settlements before becoming our first state heritage area in the 1980s. As the main maritime gateway for SA, Port Adelaide handles a diverse range of inbound and outbound cargoes, including grains and seeds, motor vehicles, metals, agricultural commodities, mineral sands, fertilisers and limestone, just to name a few!

06.01.2022 Around our ports - last month our Port Adelaide and Port Lincoln terminals exported a combined more than 50,000 tonnes of grain to locations around the world. And further west, near Ceduna, the port of Thevenard exported more than 100,000 tonnes of gypsum! In case you didn't know, Thevenard is the port for the largest gypsum mine in Australia and the largest gypsum deposit in the southern hemisphere (and that famously Instagrammed pink salt lake - Lake MacDonnell!).... Once at port, the gypsum is shipped from Thevenard for processing in Australian production plants for the manufacture of plaster products for the construction industry. Gypsum has been mined at Lake MacDonnell since 1919! [ - Photo Robbie Goodall Photography via IG, 2019 ]
