25.01.2022 Early mornings looking east after overnight rain at Taralee Orchards, how gorgeous! This place has it all, from Cottage Accommodation in the Wirrabara Forest to a biodynamic stone fruit orchard, it's a place you can truly enjoy the outdoors. Explore the nearby towns of Wirrabara, Laura and Melrose with a handy 'Things to Do' Guide on their website. And if you time it right, the Wirrabara Producers Market is on the third Sunday of the month where you can appreciate the local produce.

25.01.2022 We're having lots of fun over in Peterborough SA in the Southern Flinders Ranges! If you haven't taken the kids yet, the School Holidays are the perfect opportunity. They'll love the interactive sound and light show, on every night at the Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre. Don't forget to visit during the day and check out the museum as well! Have some lunch at one of the many cafes or hotels around town, wander down the main street and marvel at its history.... There are also lots of walks around town to enjoy. Have you visited Peterborough before? Tell us about it! Photo: Anita Stewart

25.01.2022 There's only one day left of the South Australian School Holidays, what did you get up to? If you spent some time in the Flinders Ranges, we'd love to see what you got up to! Just like A Winter Escape blog did when she tagged us in this photo of her and her kids exploring Alligator Gorge in the Southern Flinders Ranges. We hope everyone had a lovely break and we can't wait to see you again soon!

24.01.2022 This might just be our favourite thing to do, bush camping in the Southern Flinders Ranges. Just add good company and great local produce and you're all set! @beyondthebitumen had the right idea when she ventured to Bendleby Ranges just outside of Orroroo last month. When was the last time you went and explored? The School Holidays are right around the corner so it's time to start planning...

16.01.2022 If you're a keen cyclist, then you simply must visit Melrose in the Southern Flinders Ranges as @tom_williams_mtb (IG) is demonstrating here. Melrose is mountain bike central, with approx 80km of single track trails in the foothills of Mount Remarkable and nearby, and over 20 trails to explore, it's pretty obvious why. Head to Over the Edge Melrose as stop number one for all the information on biking you will ever need in this region, plus a great coffee or a spot of breakfast to start your day off the right way. And for a bit of research, make sure to visit BIKE Melrose website for a few local tips and tricks.

16.01.2022 Sunsets at Port Germein Jetty in the Southern Flinders Ranges are just stunning, even the dolphins make an appearance much to the delight of @kezdogmcgee (IG). 11.01.2022 The Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre is a museum with a difference. Visitors can relive the glorious days of the Australian railways in Steamtown Peterborough, in the Southern Flinders Ranges, where Australia's most unique rail heritage centre is located. The Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre was one of the main sites for railway maintenance, repairs and a major rail-transport hub in South Australia in its heydays with over 100 trains passing through each day and employing over 10...00 people. The Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre is also home to South Australia's first and only sound and light show. This visual light and sound spectacle is presented after dark, while you sit in a comfortable 1916 historic rail carriage, now converted into a viewing car. On the daily continuously guided 1.5 hour tour you can get close to historic locomotives, trains, carriages and numerous freight vehicles. You can still feel the glamour of the roaring twenties, travelling first class through the Nullarbor in the opulent 1923 First Class Lounge car. Why not stop in on your way to the Outback? 07.01.2022 While staying at Ikara Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges, head off on a 4WD trip from Flinders Ranges Way through Bunyeroo Gorge and Brachina Gorge. Just past a crossing on the Bunyeroo Creek is Twin Gums Lookout and, as the name suggests, there are beautiful large gum trees at this stopping point on the side of Bunyeroo Road. This area is surrounded by amazing rock formations and well worth the trip. Parts of this road can be cut off by water after heavy rain, so a stop... at the Visitor Centre at Wilpena Pound can provide information on the state of the dirt road. The Brachina Gorge Geological Trail is a 20 kilometre self-guided trail that passes through 130 million years of earth history. Trail signage provides an insight into past climates, the formation of the ranges and the evolution of early life forms. The trail is best travelled from east to west. Start at the Brachina Gorge/Blinman Road junction Bunyeroo Gorge is one of the main gorges which runs through the Heysen Range towards Lake Torrens. The drive down the razorback to Bunyeroo Valley gives spectacular views South towards the Pound Range. Along these drives a variety of wildlife including kangaroos and euros can be seen . Many excellent designated picnic spots and camp grounds are available through both gorges. A number of walking trails are situated in the Bunyeroo Gorge area and the Heysen Trail also passes through the gorge. As always book ahead and Plan your trip.
