25.01.2022 Upcoming free public lecture by the current Flinders University Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Applied Public Policy - Modernizing Public Policy: Putting Priv...ate Capital to Social Purposes. The industrial era Welfare State is confronted with challenges for which it is unprepared: rising economic inequality, increasing capital flight, bureaucratic inertia, diminished opportunities for marginalized citizens, and expanding social markets for low income households. Coupled with these are maximized public debt and an unwillingness to by Governments to increase taxes, resulting in reduced international competitiveness and adverse social outcomes such as diminishing upward mobility, intransigent poverty, social isolation, increased antisocial behavior. All of which have consequences for the social fabric of society.
