24.01.2022 WARNING TO PET OWNERS Did you know Cycads are highly toxic to dogs and cats?? More commonly known as Sago Palms, these plants can cause some very nasty symptoms if ingested, including vomiting, seizures, diarrhoea and even death. All parts of the plant are toxic, with the seeds containing the highest concentration of toxin. These two, beautiful babies ate part of a plant the owners were removing from the garden. Thankfully the owners took them straight to emergency!... They have been in both emergency and here with us for the past week. With some intense treatment including a fluid drip and lots of medications, these two miracle babies have managed to pull through and headed home yesterday! Please if you have any of these plants, do not allow your dogs or cats access or remove them altogether!

24.01.2022 We know dental disease is painful. How do cats show us they have a sore mouth? a) Eating canned food in preference to dry (biscuits) b) Bad Breath c) Drooling and dropping biscuits d) Weight loss... e) All of the above We will post the answer at 5pm today

24.01.2022 The Importance of Pre-Anaesthetic Blood Screening! Have you ever wondered how we keep our anaesthetics as safe as possible? Pre-anaesthetic blood screening is a fantastic diagnostic tool to help us make sure any risk associated with your beloved furbaby procedure can be minimised as much as possible. It helps us pick up any underlying disease that could affect their procedure, and more often than not the pet has shown no signs of illness! Just last week, beautiful Kenzie the ...Siberian Husky came to visit us to have her teeth cleaned. We performed a pre-anaesthetic blood screen as we always do, and despite Kenzie appearing perfectly healthy on the outside, we picked up some strange values associated with her liver. Luckily, we were able to address them and start investigating straight away. If we’d never run the test, Kenzie might have gotten much sicker before she let her mum know she wasn’t well, as animals can be very resilient when they’re sick or in pain (this is a left over survival mechanism from when they were wild) and can hide symptoms very effectively for a long time. Not only that, but it may not have been safe to anaesthetise her. We’re happy to report that while we’re still seeking answers for Kenzie’s illness, she is being an absolute trooper and model patient. Kenzie’s mum is just thankful we ran her pre-anaesthetic blood test! Sign up for our best for pets Wellness program and receive a free annual preventative health care screening.

23.01.2022 Many households may still have some hot cross buns around the house, so be sure not to feed your pets sultanas, raisins or grapes as they can cause kidney damage if ingested. If you suspect that your pet has eaten something they shouldn't, please call us immediately
