15.01.2022 I wasn’t sure what I was going to paint for @floatingsauna_lakederby as I drove up to Derby in Tasmania’s North East with @emilyelizajewellery. On the drive up ...through the mountains north of Fingal and Mathinna (and in Derby itself), we saw quite a number of these Tasmanian (or Green) Rosellas, and of course White and Black Cockatoos against the rain laden sky. On arriving we experienced the amazing Floating Sauna on Briseis Hole, which our wonderful host Nigel informed us, was once a large tin mine till the deadly floods of 1929, when the Briseis Dam burst and the Cascade River flooded the town, killing 14 people. The sauna looks out across this ‘lake’, framing majestic clouds that tumble above. It was once a denuded landscape, now it is green and lush, though the remnants of natural and human history proliferate the area. This will help to keep ourselves, our loved ones and our community safe.
