24.01.2022 I've been a busy bee today! Met up with a lovely bride this morning to chat about her wedding in 10 weeks, then delivered bridal flowers for a mini wedding to @themanorbasketrange and did a quick site visit while I was there (I have 3 weddings there in the coming weeks!), then I met with another lovely couple to chat about their Feb 2021 wedding florals. All that then got home, did some grocery shopping, cleaned my kitchen and now I'm back in the office writing up quotes and replying to emails! 24.01.2022 A summary of my my day yesterday, Wednesday 18th of November 2020. I woke up at 6 am and went to my growers and the market to pick up the flowers for my 3 weddings this weekend. I then went straight to the studio where I spent my morning getting the flowers prepped and sorting out our shelves of glassware until the new restrictions we're announced. The next hour was spent figuring out what was possibly going to happen with our fridge and shop full of fresh, perishable flower...s. Weddings and funerals (the 2 biggest parts of our business) are banned and flower deliveries and stores had to close as of midnight. I got a phone call from one of the bridesmaids for Friday's wedding and then the mother of one of my Saturday brides - both telling me the weddings were being brought forward to that evening. I then had only 3 hours to put together all the bouquets and buttonholes plus deliver the flowers to both brides. Vanessa helped as much as she could, but she had 15+ flower orders brought forward from the next few days that she had to make and deliver to suburbs all over the hills! I ended up finishing the weddings in record time (not my best work but I did what I could with what I had) and rushed off to deliver H & E's flowers before 5 o'clock. Meanwhile Vanessa went and delivered C & J's flowers around 5:30. Our other Saturday wedding was unfortunately cancelled and I felt so awful for the bride and groom all afternoon, so I put together a vase full of the flowers I had purchased for their wedding then drove down to Mount Compass to deliver them. I got home at 8pm, sat on the couch and barely moved all evening It's definitely a day to remember for all in SA, everyone has their own version of what happened yesterday and how these restrictions have affected them - but we're all in this together and we can get through it together. 23.01.2022 When I started Floral Eden I spent a lot of time thinking about what my plan was. I knew I wanted to set myself aside from other wedding florists and I didn't want to just sell a product; I wanted to create a personal experience. From the beginning I vowed to do all the consultations with my clients, be the one who replied to all emails and inquiries and on the day of the wedding I would personally ensure to create each bridal bouquet. Floral Eden has grown rapidly, from havi...ng only 20 weddings in 2019, to having 40 in 2020 even with cancellations/postponements) and now having 65 weddings booked in and yet to come. Myself and Vanessa have worked very hard to get to where we are, and I could have never done it without her knowledge, experience and expertise. I truly love my little team. Small business is hard. I am a very practical person, so I love getting to create floral arrangements, and go set up at SA's finest venues, but unfortunately that's not even half of what I do. Paperwork and admin take up majority of my time (more so recently because of covid) but I have taught myself to love it and try and make myself realise that I couldn't have one without the other! It has been difficult to adjust to the changes and quick growth as it has been new territory for both of us, but we are managing fine. I still ensure to speak to each bride personally (whether in person or over Zoom), and I will always be the person who emails and updates quotes, and above all I will ALWAYS make each bride's bouquet, even if we have more than one wedding on a day. I love each and every client who has booked with Floral Eden, and I cannot thank you enough for supporting a small local business.
