14.01.2022 We are heartbroken that dear Abba left us yesterday. He left us peacefully surrounded with love. Run free old boy. You were so very much loved and we will miss ...you. FLOSSIE'S CAT OF THE WEEK (Or Online Dating for Grown Up Cats) Once in a while Flossie's is lucky enough to meet a real character. One such gnarled old man is Abba who came to us after a death in his family. He has been very much loved and indulged for every one of his 16 years. He's a crusty old codger who's done it all and seen it all and doesnt know what the world is coming to. On the surface he's the embarassing old rellie who gets sat in the corner at family functions to keep him out of the way but still some how upsets everyone with inappropriate comments about anyone and anything. He doesn't have much patience for young whipper snappers. Cats that upset his zen get put in their place quick smart and he will dish out a good paddlin' as necessary. Deep down he is a happily doddery old bloke who just wants a warm place to snooze, regular food deliveries and a good supply of cuddles and scratches ... but not too much, he has that cranky old man reputation to uphold! He likes his tucker and this, combined with limited physical activity, means he closely resembles an overweight potato. It's a vicious circle. He'll totter determinedly to his food bowl nodding and wobbling his little head and every now and again he'll poke his tongue out randomly. It's like watching a stubborn octagenarian insist on deadheading the roses even though the gardener comes tomorrow. He enjoys a good game of hide and seek but he's not very good at it liking to hang out with just his head concealed in a tunnel. These games don't really last very long and he'll only be asleep anyway when you find him after pretending to look everywhere but the tunnel for him. We adore this curmudgeon. He has captured our hearts without even trying. He deserves a place in the sun to think good old days thoughts about when he were a lad. If you think you could provide a safe space for this gentleman in his sunset years please get in touch with the page.

14.01.2022 Flossie’s is doing well with our Cans-4-Cats container deposit initiative. But we really need your help. Due to COVID we won’t be running a trivia night this year, nor can we run bake sales or have our market day fundraising shenanigans. So stay tuned for a series of contact free fundraising initiatives for Flossie’s. If you’d like to help us out when you return your containers you can put the Flossie’s phone number, 0414 858 269, into the system when you are returning your... containers. The return it account is linked directly to the Flossie’s bank account so 100% of funds go straight to helping the kittens and cats in our care. Thanks people Flossie

11.01.2022 On occasion we get a message from a family who have no option but to rehome their beloved cat. This is one such cat. She is not a Flossies cat and we have no involvement other than giving the family a resource to help find their cat a new home. You will need to do your due diligence to determine if she is right for you. If you are interested in meeting Cleopatra please contact her mum on the number below. Meet Cleopatra, an 8yo tabby. Cleo, like her namesake, likes to rule.... She does not tolerate other animals and she is quite particular about having her way. Sadly through no fault of her own she needs a new home. She does respond to firm voice but she will constantly push the boundaries. She can be cuddly when it suits her but she is just as likely to bite you when she’s had enough. Cleo would suit a single, couple or family with high school age children but would not recommend for a young family. Cleo is microchipped, desexed, vaccinated, and parasite treated and is available now. Please contact Mandy on 0413936829 and leave a message.

10.01.2022 ALL OF THE GINGER NINJA KITTENS HAVE BEEN ADOPTED Our little ginger ninjas this morning. Woody was helping kitten sit for us. Traecy

10.01.2022 FLOSSIE'S CAT OF THE WEEK (Or online dating for grown up cats) This week's catchelor is Buster. Buster is a quiet, gentle type who has been looking for love in all the wrong places. He's been living in a crowded share cathouse and he just longs for some individual attention. He has decided it's his time to shine so he's pressed his best tuxedo and is dressed to impress his perfect match. ... This fabulous feline likes sun worshipping, massages and romantic dinners. He loves to snuggle with his chosen one. He's a dear sweet boy who just wants to be loved and he'd really like to be the centre of a human's world. We think he's about 2 years old, he's desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We do need to advise that dear sweet Buster has tested FIV+. We included some information on the disease below but in short there is no reason why Buster shouldn't live a long and happy life with lots of love and routine health checks. If you'd like to meet Buster please contact the page. He'll be waiting with a rose just for you. More photos of this eligible catchelor in comments. (FIV is a slow progressing virus that affects the cat's immune system reducing it's ability to fight off illness. Some cats show no indication they have the condition. FIV+ cats can live long and healthy lives and can live with non FIV cats without spreading the virus. FIV is difficult to transmit as it is fragile and does not survive long in the environment. It is killed by light, heat and regular household disenfectants. It is transmitted through deep penetrating bites and the virus is passed in the saliva. Bites of this kind are rare other than in free roaming undesexed tom cats. FIV is a feline specific disease and there is no evidence it can be passed to other species.)

10.01.2022 Little bit of decal decor in the West Wing office space. I can do these decals (and others) to order for $15 if you are interested. These cats are done on a 30 x30 piece of vinyl that’s rated to last outside for 7 years. I can do smaller ones too of course.... They work well on cars or walls or anywhere really. I will give you instructions and materials for applying them or if it’s for your car I can do it for you here in Flynn for a gold coin donation. All proceeds to Flossie’s Kitten Rescue. Flossie

10.01.2022 Little Leelee was found in the grass by the son of one of our amazing helpers this morning and brought to us to see if we could help. We are at capacity and would be mad to take on any more felines, so of course we said yes and accepted her. She has a wound on her mouth so we took her to see wonderful dr Carla at Kaleen Veterinary Hospital to get her checked over and make sure there were no broken bones (there weren’t). She is currently having snuggles because she’s not very convinced about humans being good value just yet. We’ll have her purring by Sunday... Flossie

10.01.2022 Some past and recent photos from the shenanigans at Flossies. PLEASE NOTE THESE KITTENS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR MEET AND GREETS OR ADOPTION AT THIS STAGE. WE WILL MAKE A POST ONCE THEY ARE AVAILABLE. Please consider supporting Flossies with donations or by buying raffle tickets in our current raffle. These donations help us to continue to provide care to the many cats and kittens we take on to help them eventually find a loving forever home. ... Flossies Kitten Rescue is entirely self funded. Thank you Traecy

10.01.2022 We have been selected as one of the three organisations to be part of the Local Matters fundraising initiative at Grill'd Belconnen for April. 09.01.2022 Bottle babies who think you are their mumma...... sigh

09.01.2022 FUR THE LOVE OF DOG THE KITTENS ARE BREAKING EVERYTHING! CAN YOU HELP THEM BREAK THEIR FAST? Its that time of year when kittens are growing and running amok, a...s only kittens can. To fuel their mayhem they keep eating and eating and eating and, guess what... all that food has to go somewhere! The bulk of our volunteers' time at present is spent satisfying their hunger, with vast quantities of quality dry food always on offer, and wet food four to five times a day. Later, they diligently finalise the great injestion/digestion/excretion cycle by cleaning up when the food has served it's purpose. To this end we are asking for your help. We are seeking donations of Felix Kitten and Felix Cat food sachets and paper pelleted litter so that our babies, and mums, will grow strong and stay healthy and continue to terrorise our volunteers. If you could donate a box of food sachets or a bag of paper litter our cat slaves will be able to satiate the ravening beasts and keep ourselves amused shovelling. We'd be grateful if donations could be dropped off at Flossie's at 28 Pattinson Cres Flynn on the corner of Newland St. There's a big grey donations box in the carport.

08.01.2022 FLOSSIE'S CAT OF THE WEEK (Or online dating for grown up cats) This is Sweetie and his name certainly suits him. This big boy is... well a sweetie! ... This gentle boof is friendly and enjoys the company of humans, although he's not been with us long and is still finding his feet here. His carer has said that he didn't get on well with their cats so he's probably best suited to be an only cat. So far he has tended to avoid other residents here rather than confront them but that could be because he hasn't fully settled in here yet. He doesn't appear to be fazed by the Flossie's dogs as they play noisily in the yard outside the enclosure. He was found in Latham about 9 months ago. All efforts were made to find his home but he wasn't microchipped and his owner could not be found. He's been an inside cat since he was found and is litter trained. His foster carer tells us that "he is a lovely, sweet boy, loves pats and rubs and chin scratches, loves to play with toys, will sleep on the bed and on your lap or feet. He's not sure what to do when picked up but he's alright with kisses and snuggles if he's on the ground." He has allowed us to handle him without adverse reactions although at times he has clearly not been at ease. Sweetie is a shapely lad (round is a shape) and he is clearly an avid eater, happily sampling everything offered. Let's be honest...he's more interested in quantity over quality. He could stand to lose a kilo or so but despite his rotundness he's active and interested in the world. A diet would certainly support a more active lifestyle as well as reduce his solid silhouette. We estimate Sweetie is around 4 years old. He's in good health and is fully vaccinated, desexed and microchipped. If you'd like to invite a curvaceous cat into your home, and your heart, please get in touch with the page.

02.01.2022 Goulburn still have a couple of glorious kittens available. How to meet them is in the original post.

01.01.2022 I need to vent! Just a heads up, even if you need urgent supplies, Coles home delivery won’t step up to the plate when they get things wrong. I ordered cleaning supplies, because we have two kittens with ringworm, and we have to treat all 10 kittens in the kitten room. This involves shampooing 10 kittens, marinating the kittens for 15 minutes, rinsing 10 kittens and drying 10 kittens. We do this every 2 days. It’sphysically taxing. ... Ringworm management also involves meticulous cleaning of their environment, daily bedding changes, and lots of loads of laundry. Needless to say it’s labour intensive, exhausting and expensive. So I ordered home delivery of cleaning supplies. They arrived yesterday afternoon, excellent. And it turns out some of the items weren’t in stock. No biggie. So they sent alternatives. That don’t suit what I need. I’m thinking this will be simple to remedy. So as soon as I realised I called to ask for them to be collected and for Flossie’s to receive a refund. No problem they said, just put them out and the driver will come back and collect them and then we will process a refund. This morning the unneeded items are still there, waiting for collection. So I call the help line and the lovely human checks in with the store and now I’m told that they won’t come and get them I have to take them to any coles for a refund. Somehow, some time between when I followed the directions given to me yesterday and this morning, Coles Gungahlin has decided that they won’t honour the arrangement to collect the not fit for purpose items and refund the money without me needing to drive around. (If I had the stamina to drive around I wouldn’t have paid for a home delivery) So a not for profit organisation, strapped for cash and resources and energy, has to just fall in line when they reneg on their part of an agreement. And pushing the complaint up the line will apparently involve a significant wait for a manager to call me back, and I don’t mean a few hours, I’m told it will be days. Needless to say we won’t be shopping with Cole's online again. Their customer service is abominable (well not the human I spoke to this morning, they were actually very nice). Grrrrrr Flossie (Yes I’m tetchy, I’m feeling a bit stressed and I just needed a low effort alternative to going to the shops to get supplies.) Gratuitous photo of Flossie’s kittens who don’t have ringworm, bless their little paws.
