21.01.2022 According to the Sydney Morning Herald, almost a million Australians throw out their Mental Health Plan each year? There could be many reasons why people don't take the next step after their GP prepares a Mental Health Plan. Stigma; fear of talking to a complete stranger about deeply personal issues; feeling that it won't help, or hoping you will feel better with time are likely reasons. Getting help early is very important. For young people, there is an 8-year gap between ...onset of symptoms and actually seeking help. As most mental illness disorders begin in adolescence, early intervention will have the most benefit. For adults, mental illness interferes with every aspect of functioning. If you have taken the trouble to talk to your GP about how you are feeling, and if your GP completes a Mental Health Care Plan, I would encourage you to connect with a psychologist. Do your research...check out psychologists in your area and their areas of expertise. As a psychologist in private practice I welcome initial inquiries to ensure that you feel comfortable. See more

21.01.2022 National Carers Week is about recognising and celebrating the outstanding contribution unpaid carers make to our nation. Anyone at any time can become a carer. Australia’s 2.7 million carers make an enormous contribution to our communities, with their caring roles being valued at $60.3 billion annually more than $1 billion per week. Each year, National Carers Week provides an opportunity to educate and raise awareness among all Australians about the diversity of carers and their caring roles. Carers who support someone with mental illness are the backbone of the Mental Illness service system. If you’re a carer supporting someone with a mental illness, go to www.carersweek.com.au and share your story. If you need support for yourself, talk to your GP.
