19.01.2022 Half way through Day 2 of this 5 day workshop: Teaching Movements for Communication. So great to learn from the amazing Gayle Porter and to learn how better to develop communication skills for people with complex physical disabilities.

18.01.2022 Thanks to all the brave families and clients who have taken the leap into the new and exciting world of Telehealth for our speech therapy appointments over the last week. What fun we’ve had with the new technology while still achieving everything we would normally do in face to face appointments with the same amount of games and interaction. It’s been great! I am now going to enjoy my stay at home Easter school holidays with the boys. I hope you all stay healthy and safe. Looking forward to seeing lots of your smiling faces in Term 2.......it might be just your smiles will be on a screen for a little while yet.......we’ll have to wait and see.

15.01.2022 Key Word Sign Australia Workshop CANCELLED......Due to the current COVID-19 situation we have made the difficult decision to cancel our Key Word Sign Australia workshop that was scheduled for 24th April. 14.01.2022 The answer is no! It's a common misconception that using Key Word Sign (or other alternative forms of communication) will stop children from talking, but exactl...y the opposite is true. A child will always communicate in the way that is easiest for them, and speech is the easiest way of communicating with others because we’re all surrounded by people speaking. Therefore, even if Key Word Sign is used, they will continue to develop speech if that is possible for them. We also know from research that using Key Word Sign or other forms of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) will enable a child or adult with communication difficulties to communicate more effectively with others. (A3 size) Apart from spoken word, there are many different wa...ys to communicate, such as sounds, gestures, miming, pictures and hand signs. It is no different when children play. Your child can use these methods to direct play and interact with others. The following tools may help increase communication for children in outdoor play spaces. These are fantastic for all ability playgrounds, any childcare, kindy and school settings. 12.01.2022 As of tomorrow, 27th March we will be stopping all face to face appointments until the Covid-19 threat has passed. This is to protect the health of your family, my family and our community. Clients with appointments next week will be contacted directly soon. On the up side, we are excited to offer and try new ways of doing speech therapy.Some options for speech therapy are: * Telehealth/ video conferencing appointments.....how great to see my face on a screen at home! 09.01.2022 SUPPORT WORKER REQUIRED FOR IMMEDIATE START We are looking for a mature female support worker with a gentle nature and a good sense of humour to work with an aw...esome lady who is vibrant, funny and loves sport, animals, craft activities and socialising with others. The role includes in-home help like cooking, cleaning and shopping, getting out and about, transport to appointments and may involve occasional short trips away. You will also be required to assist with a strict protocol of personal care. You are especially encouraged to apply if you have experience in supporting people who have anxiety or trauma related needs. The ability to work in a team and engage with people in a respectful manner is very important. This work will be mostly weekend work and will include sleepover shifts. A long term commitment would be appreciated. You must have the following: Blue Card, Yellow Card (Police clearance) and First Aid. 07.01.2022 We are following these general guidelines as we continue to provide speech pathology services to our clients as well as doing other actions such as increasing our cleaning of high contact areas in our office (table tops, door handles etc). We will keep our clients updated via text messages if there are any big changes to our scheduled appointments.
