12.01.2022 Another sad outcome for our Peninsula koalas this poor man came to our attention last night and thankfully Suzie Webster went immediately to rescue but too late... for this beautiful man he passed away in transit. unfortunately he had been hit by a car at some point and had one of the bones in his arm broken but still being able to move. He had climbed trees and tried to survive but probably the pain and stress got to him and flys took over, loading him with maggots. Please if you see a koala in the same spot for days on end or regularly give us a call. Thank you to Mandy for noticing and calling us. Had we have got this man 5-7 days earlier it might have been a different story. Animalia Wildlife Shelter and rescue 0435822699 See more
11.01.2022 Today is national Wombat Day! A day to celebrate one of Australias amazing and unique marsupials! I have had the huge honor and privelage to be able to foster 4 gorgeous fluffbutts this year and they have taught me so much. They are cheeky, intelligent, hilarious and SO playful! It's not all fun and games tho... It is EXPENSIVE, they go through ALOT of formula each day, as well as vet costs, carrot, sweet potato and oats. Carers have to spend alot of time each day just coll...ecting grass, dirt and roots for them to eat. Spend a good chunk of their days cleaning up alllll the poop in their pens, countless loads of washing AND have to feed them every 4-5hrs... even over night! It is alot of work, and alot of money! SOOO in honor of National Wombat Day and these beautiful babies please donate to your local wildlife shelter to help them continue helping sick, injured and orphaned wildlife Thank you.
11.01.2022 Yes we have Koalas in Langwarrin and the Mornington Peninsula. This is a simple guide to help people recognise when a Koala might be in distress especially during heat events. Always have a wildlife rescue number ready in your phone. A local wildlife shelter is ANIMALIA WILDLIFE SHELTER. 0435822699

09.01.2022 Feral cats / Domestic cats. are an issue in Langwarrin. People need to be more aware of their responsibilities in tackling these issues.

06.01.2022 Just a reminder that the snakes are well and truly out and about now with quite a few being seen, both in parks/reserves and in the estates. Please be mindful when walking with small children and make sure they stick to the formed paths... protect your dogs by keeping them on lead to reduce the risk of them being bitten. If you are bitten by a snake please remember that the most important thing is to stay still while you wait for help. Snakes inject venom into muscles and la...ctid acid breaks it down and sends it through the lymphatic system which is when it makes its way to the blood stream and organs. If you find a snake in your yard, do not try to catch it or kill it. Snakes are protected in Australia and it is a criminal offence to kill them. The penalties for killing a snake are: fines up to $30K for individuals ($147K for businesses) and up to 2 years imprisonment. The best thing for you to do, is to keep an eye on the snake from a safe distance. Keep children and pets away, and call our local snake catcher Snake Catcher Victoria Australia on 0408 067 062. If you are able to, it can be helpful to try and snap a photo of the snake so it can be identified. For more information about what to do in case of snake bite in humans please visit: https://www.stjohnvic.com.au/news/snake-bite-first-aid-tips/ To purchase a snake bite bandage to take on your walks or when you go camping please visit: https://growingchild.com.au/smart-snake-bite-bandage&ref=bsk For information on what to do if your pet is bitten by a snake please visit: http://www.aecvets.com.au//SnakeBite-Client-Handout-NATION Remember snakes only attack when they feel threatened. Keep to formed tracks, wear appropriate footwear when walking in reserves and be mindful of your surroundings. Always carry a mobile phone. It is definitely worthwhile carrying a snake bite bandage on you whenever you go on bush walks or camping. Be aware, not afraid.
04.01.2022 According to scientists, not enough is known about where platypuses live or how many are spread throughout the state. To help address this lack of knowledge, th...ey are calling on Victorians to take part in a citizen science survey called the "Great Victorian Platypus Search". Volunteers would take samples from local waterways to test for the presence of platypus DNA, a process known as environmental DNA sampling. https://www.theage.com.au//victorians-urged-to-help-scient
04.01.2022 Good Information if you see wildlife around Langwarrin and surrounds heat stressed today.
03.01.2022 Cleanup Australia Day is this Sunday 7th March. Some of the ducks are in a bit of a flap about the rubbish in their creek and rubbish on the streets that go down the storm water drains. Unfortunately FLOW (Friends of Langwarrin Outdoors and Waterways) was unable to organise an official event this year due to unforeseen circumstances. HOWEVER if anyone is intending to get out there and do a cleanup you are welcome to PM the group to get some bags. You can leave the bags of rubbish near the bin near the bike park or the other side of the Mens shed where the council bin is.
01.01.2022 We need to drive with wildlife in our minds. Be observant and report injured or sick wildlife.
