24.01.2022 We had our regular monthly meeting last Saturday and confirmed that our AGM will be held at the gardens in the environment education centre at 9.30am on Saturday 17 October. A reminder to members that annual fees are due at the beginning of each financial year 1 July. Followers on Facebook who would like to become members contact [email protected]. Hope to see you at our open day on Sunday 30 August - Covid-19 rules apply so if not already booked our volunteers will record your name and phone number at the boom gate entry. Lots to see and explore and flowers everywhere including Wonga vine, one of those hardy climbers useful in all sorts of places in the garden.

24.01.2022 Very busy days. In the nursery Jeanette, Geoff and Jenny write labels in preparation for plant sales at open day on 30 May, Jan and Paul from fencing contractor discuss extension to sunning out area and Judy helps Marie choose the plants for room 5. Several shots of planting in lower gully, bottom swamp and slope all with GPS recorded by co-curator Peter Gould. The efficient team of Theodora and Susan weeded on the Wilson's park species path which, like many tracks, has becom...e overgrown following all the rain. Extensive treeworks in the former wattle bed and in room 5 by Dave Latta and a hard working team - result a big pile of mulch which will be used before the hot weather to protect young plants. Graham is trialling a new method of repairing the erosion points in walking tracks and two of the benches from the pie cart in their new home on the pond viewing platform, remainder were loaded onto Don's truck to be taken to his workshop for repair and renovation. 24.01.2022 Graham fixed the pavers on the steps in the rice gardens and Valley Lipser and Charlotte Haywood joined the volunteers, here with Diana, to discuss their environmental theatre project 'Understorey' planned for live performances in the gardens next year. The solar clock lawn was mown and trimmed and Cunjevois are flowering in the gullies. Hazel

24.01.2022 Graham continues repairing damaged paths caused by the flash flood in January, work continues on planting and recording on the anniversary path and slope, a site for a new sign selected, Neil and Jan discussed the morning's work plans, Florence continued spreading fertiliser, Will added the final rail to the amenities steps and a team of volunteers moved all our stuff from the office in the EEC to the Visitor's centre - a temporary home until a new offfice is built thanks to ...a donation from our generous benefactors. Welcome appearance of Denis who came to rescue Marie whose car had an oil leak and had to be taken away by the NRMA! A total of 23 volunteers today and was not able to get to the team working on the weeding in Wilson's park species plantings, next week planting in the old Acacia bed, holes already dug by Daimo and a big new pile of good soil to backfill. 24.01.2022 Busy day, display boards now feature butterflies and a caterpillar was enjoying a finger lime host. Graham continued path repairs, a team dug the trenches ready for formwork to pour footings for the new steel bridge and plants selected and planted on the anniversary slope assisted by a boardwalk made of palettes sourced by Damian. Nobody had time to smile at the camera and some of us missed morning tea! Many more planting days planned so hoping for fine Wednesdays.

23.01.2022 A big volunteer effort to clear the pond of floating grass and the bog garden ready for planting. Richmond river sand and gravel made a delivery to the nursery, some lovely understory epiphytes and seedlings in the hoop pine forest, Duboisia is flowering in the commemorative garden; this plant has an interesting history in its uses by traditional owners and as a source of the drug scopolamine before it was synthesised. A few pictures of fruiting and flowering that awaits you next time you visit.

17.01.2022 We had beautiful weather for the official opening of our new Amenities Block at the Gardens today. Janelle Saffin, our local state member and Jeni Binns, one of our very generous donors cut the ribbon, and over 40 visitors and volunteers were present for the event... some lining up later to try out the new amenities! We also had our special Christmas morning tea for our volunteers at the EEC. Overall a really good morning... well done Tracey and Hazel, the main organizers, and all the other committee members and volunteers who worked so hard to make it happen. Thanks to Jenny Dowell for some of these photos.

Local grass species are not mown until flowering is finished so now is a good time to check your identification skills if you have an interest in grass species. Hazel

06.01.2022 Yesterday was an interesting workday after the 200 plus mls of rain we had had over the previous several days. Certainly no watering! There was no erosion in work we had done along creeks ... very satisfying! Some dead trees were down, fallen small branches and a lot of fallen leaves and small debris on paths but overall the Gardens have stood up well to the deluge. No reports yet re effects of another 200ml which fell in a very short period in Lismore yesterday afternoon. Marie
